Anyone here into road/racing bikes?

I have tried several different seats on my Fuji Roubaix road bike and other bikes along with different seat positions and found there is no such thing as comfort, only impalement.

To relieve the pain, I now wear padded bicycle shorts with two extra pieces of sponge type padding stuffed down the front and back and a double gel cover on the Performance Bike Contour saddle. It is probably "over the top" but it has made riding somewhat less painfull.

From the mostly clear skies of Phoenix, Arizona. I saw it on Sat. nite while taking out the garbage. I didn't know what is was but I thought it was unusual since the smaller lights were not twinkling like stars. It was taken with the K20 and Pentax 18-250 lens on a tripod using remote control.

Undervaluations and false Customs declarations (export and import) are crimes in most every country and the merchandise can be subject to seizure. It can be a felony in the U.S. Everybody wants to save a dollar but a person can be "penny wise and pound foolish". It is not worth the risk. Newmikey gives good advice.

I suppose that there may be times when the owner cannot be contacted with reasonable effort and therefore, a great image couldn't be viewed by more people. The owners will have to make sure that they are identifyable and can be easily contacted to prevent theft and aid litigation if necessary.

A Quality Issue of 18-250mm lens?

The zoom lock only works when the lens is at it's shortest (the 18mm position). They all slide when pointed down as many posters here have stated before. I know my lens does.

My saga continues. After being verbally assured that my resubmission was validated and that a check will be issued on 9/17, I just received a post card saying that my submission didn't qualify. I immediately called the rebate center and was told that the post card was computer generated based on a previous review error. I was again assured that the check will be mailed on 9/17. If I ever see a rebate check, I will post the happy news. I'm not holding my breath.

Anyone having rebate problems should call the rebate center right away. They seem to try to rectify erroneous denials. I will keep calling until I get a check or the phone line is disconnected.

It's looking like they really don't have a magazine but just sell subscriptions. I called to cancel the subscription and was told that they would not credit my credit card until October. A one year sub. was only $9.95 USD.

Does anyone have a subscription to this magazine or has even ever seen one?

I entered my subscription in March and they charged my credit card in June. It is supposed to be a bi-monthly magazine. I have not yet received a copy. I have sent them five e-mails and received five responses. Each response basically said that it would be mailed in the following month. I am beginning to wonder if there is actually such a magazine. However, they do have a website if that means anything.

That is a dream machine. Very impressive specs especially the 7200 rpm hard drive. One doesn't see that very often. Best of luck and enjoy the crotch rocket.

There should be an exposure meter in the viewfinder when in manual mode. You can immediately tell if your exposure setting is under or over exposed and then make adjustments accordingly.

I thought that the rebate checks were sent by the rebate processing company. They told me that my check would be mailed on 9/17 but the rebate website is still showing that there is a problem with my submission.

In any case, anybody waiting for the rebate show check www.rebatestatus.com - Search to see what is going on and if it doesn't look good, get on the phone right away to resolve the problem

From what I have read and heard, the EIZO is the monitor that many top professionals use. They are pretty expensive and can cost $5000 USD or more. I have never even seen one in the computer stores but Amazon is showing a couple of models for arond $500 USD.

The telephone number for the Pentax rebate center is 800-554-9838.

I have called them several times about my rebate which I had to resubmit by fax because they said they had no record of my submission. The call center is in Niagra Falls, Canada and the processing center is in Phoenix, AZ. They are very courteous and willing to help to rectify the situation. I think my submission has been straighteded out but no check yet. .

Here are some more rebate customer service numbers:

888-314-9903
888--893-3769
480-606-4313 (FAX)

The above numbers were obtained from e-mails received from the rebate center. I believe that all of the above number ring into the Canada call center. If necessary, they will rarely transfer you to the Phoenix processing center for additional help.

I have bought single inexpensive items like filters, rubber hoods, and bags; basically things that are not cost efficient to buy on line or I really need to see it in person. It looks like a big part of there business is photo and print processing. Camera sales seen to be limited to the unindoctrinated.

Pentax rebate taking a long time

I just got an e-mail response from the Pentax contractor servicing the rebates. They are reviewing my faxed submission and I should allow another 8-10 weeks for processing. I've already waited 10 weeks to find there was no record of a submission. I would really like to know how my mailed submission got "lost". It only had to travel seven miles to the rebate center. Maybe I should have researched the Phoenix rebate center P.O. box for a street adress and hand delivered itto them.

Dave: It sounds like you may be running some heavy duty number crunching applications and maybe even at the same time. I don't have any of those but even Photoshop works in a blink of the eye. I've built several desktop machines using the slowest and the fastest processors and I have never noticed a speed difference running any applications (no games or number crunching engineering types).

BTW, 3rd and long is also an American football term and a situation the AZ Cardinals see quite often.

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop from Fry's Electronics for $449. I was too late for an earlier sale price of $379. It was full of bloatware which I quickly erased. It has all the necessities like card reader , 4 USB ports, internet an bluetooth capabilities. It came with only 1gb ram but for about $35, I increased it to 2gb. It also had a 160 gb hard drive which should be enough for normal laptop usage.

It came with Vista loaded and I was somewhat aprrehensive about compatibility. I loaded lots of my older programs and only had a compatibility issue with QuickBooks 2004. It would not load. However, there is a little known feature in Vista which allows a program to run in an XP mode (I found this in a Google search). It worked. Photoshop 7 runs under Vista with no problem. All laptops are slow booting up and the usual 5400 rpm hard drives don't help. Processor speed olny seems to matter for running games which I don't. I guess my point is: How many more necessary bells and whistles do you get in a laptop for $1000 or over?

Pentax rebate taking a long time

I'm glad that I read this thread. I just checked with the rebate center on-line and by telephone and found that they had no record of my submission for a $100 K20 rebate. The mailing address was in Phoenix. I live in Phoenix. I might as well have mailed it to Timbuctu. Now I have to start over by faxing the documents. I had to wait 20 minutes to talk to a live person but they were very helpful and courteous and they assurerd me the rebate would be processed.

I would suggest that if you think your rebate is taking too long, chek on-line to see if they have a record of your submission. If, then call.

Lenses w/o an A - how to get the shutter working
Posted By JohnV3

I just tested and found that the shutter will release on a K20 with an M lens when the camera focus button is set either to AF or MF whether it is in focus or not. I have encountered some situations where the shutter would not release because I had a wrong setting (not in the menus) but now I can't remember what is was. Maybe it could be lens specific. I haven't tried every lens I have.

Lenses w/o an A - how to get the shutter working

I'm repeating what I said in some recent threads. For the green button to work properly with an M lens, item #26 in the custom menu, "Green button in TAv & M" must be set to #2"Tv shift". This allows the shutter to be adjusted for the proper exposure. The other setting choices don't adjust the shutter.

Also, the shutter will not release if the camera is set to AF when using a manual focus lens.

M lens on K20D..bracket, meter?
Posted By JohnV3

Pressing the green button when using a M lens to get a proper exposure will work only if item #26 in the Custom menu, "Green button in TAV & M" is set to TV shift. With this setting, the shutter speed is adjusted automatically (see p. 95 in the K20 operating manual) according to the aperture setting. Unless you have this setting, the green button does not work proerly when using M lenses.

Also, the exposure setting will remain the same until the green button is pressed again. This means that for bracketing or continuous shooting, the exposure determined by the first pressing of the green button will remain for the remainder of the shots.

I hope this helps to clarify things.

Yvon: Thanks anyway. I'll pass on the stickers but I may decide to get your K20 book. I've been putting it off because I have the K10 book and don't know if there is much to gain in the K20 book.

My Jeep Wrangler is my only vehicle (except my wife's car) and is my daily transportation. I have creature comforts though: satellite radio, two stereo amplifiers for the radio and 10 in. subwoofer, a scanner, external CD player, and CB radio, and GPS unit. It has a hard top for security and cold a/c along with added floor insulation for noise reduction. Obviously I don't do any rock climbing or Rubicon trails with it. The Jeep interiors were redesigned in '97 and later models with other creature comforts. I've used it on over 1000 mile trips with no fatigue. We don't have to worry about rust in Arizona, just sun rot and fade if not garaged.

I guess that will work because the camera should adjust the speed for the wide open lens. However, how does the camera know if wide open is 1.4, 3.5 or 5.6? It seems it should make a difference or am I missing something.
