From a camping trip on the Pacific Coast a while back. I "think" it was shot with my K1000 on BW400CN.

A couple of pictures from a recent outing using a roll of expired BW400CN. The first is two of out ever present seagulls shot with an R12 filter. The second is a view of the Gateway Emergency Exhibit (Designed by a survivor of the Oakland Hills Firestorm) shot with an R25 red filter. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakland_firestorm_of_1991)

Hi All...

Added a new-to-me camera this week. Went to the thrift store and found a Minolta Maxxum 450si with a Minolta 35-70 zoom lens and a Quantaray 70-300 zoom. Also in the bag was a Minolta Program 3500xi flash and a handful of filters.
Haven't had much time to play... er, work with the equipment, but visual condition seems around an 8 or 9. I've shot a few frames of BW400CN and I'll try to get the rest done by the weekend.
I know this is the Pentax Forums, but it seems also to be for folks with a genuine love of photography regardless of camera brand.

The first was a Pentax Spotmatic 2 (I think), followed some time later by a black body MX.
My last (Picked up at a thrift store yesterday) is a Minolta Maxxum 450si.

Variable ND Filter Question

Hi All...

I recently picked up a variable ND filter and while I kind of know how to use it, I'm pretty foggy on how to determine the shutter speed when it needs to be longer than 1 second.
My basic setup is my K1000, a 35-200 mm f3.5 lens and shooting 400ASA film. The filter is a Promaster Variable NDX. I'm just experimenting and don't mind shooting a couple of all black or white frames, but I'd like to get a couple of "okay" images too!

I'm not asking for exact settings. Just something to get me in the ballpark.

Appreciate any guidance!

A couple of images from one of my many trips around the Bay Area. Shot with my Pentax MG and Quantaray 28-90 zoom lens. Used a roll of expired BW400CN film.
(Picture quality varied wildly in the roll... not quite sure why!?)
First is an odd looking flower that grows near my apartment.
The next is part of a playground near Oakland with a couple of aluminum whales cavorting in the sand.

Hi,

A couple of monochrome shots from my vacation in Mendocino County, Northern California.

Attachment 279221
Point Arena Lighthouse. K1000, BW400CN film, UV Haze filter, Pentax 80-200 lens shot at 200mm, F8 @ 125. (IIRC)

Attachment 279222
Rock formation near the lighthouse. Same setup, but shot at about 120mm. F8 @ 250.

Battery was dead and I had to wing the Aperture and Shutter.

Greetings!

I'm new here, but I've been into photography for a while. Got started in the early 70's with a Spotmatic II which kept me happy till I picked up a black body MX in 1980.
Then along came digital and the MX got kind of lost in the closet. A couple of years ago, I started to get an itch for shooting film again, but found the light seals in my MX had turned to goo. Wah!

Wandering through the local thrift store, while pondering the fate of my MX, I came across a very clean K1000. Shot several rolls of b&w film on vacation and was quite happy with the results, especially since the battery was dead and I didn't have a spare!

Since then, I've acquired a couple more Pentax cameras... a second K1000, a ZX-60, an ME Super and most recently an MG. And to be honest, I haven't ignored the competition. I also have three Canon EOS Rebels, a 2000, a Ti and a K2. Lastly, a Nikon FM10.

I used to process my own film. Mostly b&w and a =little= color. Thought the color was a lot of work! However the Durst M302 enlarger and other bits went away years ago. Wanting to process my b&w film again, I picked up a Durst F30. Currently, it's just collecting dust, but SOON! :-)

Anyhow, that's me and it's getting late.

Amanda
