Really sad to hear about Colton and Steve... I haven't been here for a couple of years, but I remember many great exchanges with both of them...

How do you meter for velvia?

I think I tried shooting velvia once on my Pentax 645, and the shots came out very dense. Very saturated, as expected, but the shadows were a bit too dark.

I found some no doubt expired velvia in my freezer as I was cleaning it the other day, and I'd like to shoot it on my upcoming vacation.

Last time around I just shot it in aperture priority mode. Should I do the same, but overexpose by a bit? Or should I meter for every shot and go manual?

What is your dream Pentax lens?

Tough question. Lots of posts about what "dream" means. If I don't have to be practical, I'd really like to have the 83mm takumar...

If I had to be practical, I'd get the 77mm and 31mm for the same price and be way ahead. But dreams don't have to be practical 🙂

Thanks! I eventually need to solve my 120 film scanning needs, so I may have to go that route... Unless I can find a Coolscan 9000 for a couple of hundred bucks... In an unused condition. Yeah, probably a DSLR film holder after all...

K2 dmd listed as for parts.

Hi,

I came across a listing for a K2 dmd. The camera is in "mint" condition, according to the seller, but is listed 'for parts'. According to the seller, the meter stopped working, but the shutter fires at all speeds. That didn't make sense to me... I thought that K2 dmd had an electronic shutter, so any electronics failure would mean that the shutter would fire only at some speeds. Is it possible for the meter to fail, but the camera to still work? Or could the seller simply forgotten to replace the battery?

thank you

No, he mostly shot old soviet B&W film. Which is actually another problem I have. His collection has been sitting nicely sorted in boxes since 1950s. He never cut his film, so it's all rolled up very tight. I need to figure out how to flatten it so I can cut it and scan it... Or find a roll film adapter...

I bought a Prime Film scanner just to scan his collection, but it died after a year, hence the Coolscan

It does look interesting... I can't find what it's made of... Opinions seem to be split pretty evenly between plastic and light alloy.

even given the sticky mirror?

The problem with LX is not even that, so much as the K mount... As soon as I get another K mount camera I'll be tempted to get the 3 FA limited lenses. And then I am ruined!

Hmm. Good question. I do remember overexposing with LX shooting M50 1.4 wide open... But I did like the results :)

Thank you! I wish I thought of this, but I honestly haven't... Even though one of my lenses has an adapter because it has a weird filter size (I am looking at you Helios 40)

HI,

Thanks a lot. I think I added enough oil, at least for now. The shutter curtain started to close on 1/100, 1/200, and 1/500, but not at slower speeds. I continued to exercise the shutter, and now it stopped travelling all the way even at faster speeds. I was wondering if I need to increase tension. Looks like one of the curtains is a little wavy. Is there a way to do it?

Thank you

Yes, I thought about Nd filter... The problem is that aside from the hassle, I am worried about stripping the thread. I feel like I have damaged the thread on my Fuji 16mm F1.4 lens, but at least that lens is replaceable, even though it's not cheap. Some of the lenses I'd like to shoot are hard to replace, like Meyer Optik Gorlitz 75mm primoplan, and some others have bent filter ring... Plus unfortunately I am not the kind of person to use only one lens, I keep changing them even during a day..

Thank you! I don't know this particular model, but I'll look into it. Do you know if it's one of the cameras made by Cosina?

---------- Post added 07-29-21 at 06:14 AM ----------

Yes, all my soviet cameras top out at 1/500. I did have a Zorky that had a 1/1000 and was much older than the Zenits...

It's a perfectly useable speed if you don't mind stopping down, but some of the lenses I'd like to shoot lose their charm when stopped down...

I recently got a Coolscan V ED primarily to scan my grandfather's film collection, and it renewed my interest in the 135 format. As it happens, I don't actually have any working 35mm cameras aside from my grandfather's 3 Zenits and my dad's Kiev 19.

I have a Pentax S that I hope to revive as well.

I've been thinking about getting a camera to use with my M42 lenses, and one of the main requirements is a fast shutter speed. Naturally, LX came to mind. Unfortunately, I sold my LX and I kind of miss it. But when I started thinking of getting one again I remembered the sticky mirror and the ageing circuits... Expensive to repair if it ever breaks...

So I thought about Bessaflex TM... It's newer, has the same shutter speed, and has m42 mount. Seems like a good fit for my needs.

I was wondering if you guys have any ideas about any other m42 body with a fast shutter speed or any ideas regarding LX VS Bessaflex... (I know it's blasphemous to even ask that question, but since I sold my lx there is no hope for me anyway)

Thank you,

Thank you very much!
S is certainly very dangerous, especially with the 58mm f2 lens which I really like... I hope to be able to use it!

Hi,

I have a beautiful Pentax S that has probably sat somewhere on the shelf most of its life, as I don't see any signs of use. The downside is that the shutter curtain does not travel all the way across. I came across a video on YouTube where a guy fixes similar problem in a Pentax S2. It seems to be rather simple - take off the bottom plate and lubricate a couple of cogs. I was wondering if any of you guys had any experience doing this, as videos often do look more simple than reality. Also, what kind of oil should I use?

thank you!

There is another software that works even better than ice. It's also free... Was designed by the university of British Columbia. Looks ghetto, but works great. I need to find the name...

Interesting... I have a soft lens for my Rb67 and I find it hard to use. In fact, I don't think I nailed focus once since the original 3 test shots...

Yes, unfortunately I have discovered these in a local bakery a couple of years ago. My excuse is that if I eat those for breakfast I still have plenty of time to work them off (or sleep them off) before the end of the day
