Not a problem Noel. I can take a licking and keep on ticking or snapping or whatever. :p
I'll try to go easier on you all in the future.

Sorry guys. I didn't expect shaped bokeh to cause so much trouble. Great effort hanging in there and giving it a go.
Andy, I like the low key fell to your image. As noted the bokeh complements the subject well. I like the fish but prefer the first to the second.
Yaki, Great artistic ability and cutting skill. Cool looking shape, like the colors but prefer the bokeh around the subject.
Brad, hope you and your dad recover quickly and completely.
Noel, thanks for sticking in there. Interesting attempts. Looks like the aperture needs to be smaller and perhaps the shape. Amazing how little an opening is needed for this.
Andy gets the nod this week.
Thank you all for your participation. Hopefully you'll find this week's Project easier.

My lens has flat front glass. Not sure how a curve would affect the image.
For light you can shoot against a backlit tree. The sun peaking through the leaves can substitute for fairy lights. Stand in the shade of the tree and hold something to focus on, this assumes you have long enough arms.
Keep trying, that's the spirit. Hope you escape that 'something.'

Well done Andy. The bokeh compliments the key nicely. ---------- Post added 04-14-24 at 07:57 AM ----------
Thanks an impressive shape Yaki. Did you cut that out or use a punch?
Most often I place the lights behind my subject to get the bokeh and erase or clone the bokeh to get the look I want. I typically do not layer the bokeh over my subject. ---------- Post added 04-14-24 at 08:03 AM ----------
Your plate looks kind of 'fat' Brad. The plate should be as close as possible to the lens, typically sitting right on the rim if possible.
When it's too far away, and that varies from lens to lens in my experience, you can get the effect we see in your second photo.
I get my best results with my M50 and the Helios 44M-6.

Go for something simple for your bokeh shape. i.e. use a hole punch and make a shamrock. Easy peasy,
F2-F4 is more than adequate to shale bokeh.
Also, I have my camera at the MFD for the lens I'm using.

Welcome to Project 52-12, a weekly challenge using a set list of themes and concepts published in advance. The themes can be subject as well as technique oriented.
You may begin your Project 52 at any time, not just at the beginning of the year. The goal is simple -- take one photo a week for 52 weeks for the given theme. Project 52-12 is hosted by one member continuously throughout the year but every week's challenge is judged by the winner of the previous week. Photos can be taken with any camera. Rules
1. Anyone and everyone who is interested is eligible. The goal is to have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a theme or a photographic technique for you to explore.
3. Post a single picture in the Project 52 thread for that week. Explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK but try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images. Keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique and not camera, shots taken by non Pentax cameras are allowed. Cameras can be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot or Medium Format.
6. There will be one theme challenge labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is active to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from thread start date to listed closing date is acceptable. P52-12-15: Shaped Bokeh 4/8 - 4/14 It’s amazing what you can do with your camera. Light can be captured in different ways, and this opens up many possibilities for the keen photographer. Creating your own shaped bokeh is a fun and exciting way of shaping light as it enters the camera, and it leads to spectacular results. Bokeh refers to the out-of-focus or blurry regions in a photo that occur outside the depth of field. This is especially evident when you have small background highlights that create high contrast.
