Huntington Beach Pier sunset, a gift that will be with me forever. After days and days of rain, the clouds left and the town was rewarded with one of the best sunsets on record.(at least for me anyway). On a business trip, not even planned...so glad I brought my camera and stopped on my way back to the hotel!

Chrome Industries hosted a free photo clinic at their store in downtown Denver. Great day experiencing what the city had to offer. I'm way more into landscapes right now, so this was a very nice change of pace. Different angles, crops, bw vs. color was great to apply when I thought it needed it.
Sigma lens did ok, but the 50mm 1.8 always amazing me.

I agree with what has been said. Watch the WB, shoot raw and fix in post it sounds like. BW is also a alternative if it is really bad.

Ah right, I was torn between these two. Still might this one as well at some point. Especially since it's FA and I am hopefully for the K-1 will be good.

Thanks! Love this lens for sure so far! ---------- Post added 02-07-16 at 05:56 PM ---------- So the FA 50 you'd suggest? It's the limited prime 1.4? I have the cheap 50 1.8 and have gotten amazing results for what it is...can't imagine what the FA would do.

Starting to get an idea on how to use this thing, but its gonna take awhile. Great Macro and very sharp when at 5 and up(till around 16?). I've read a lot on this lens, excited to keep testing it out. Makes for a great Portrait lens too I think, if the subjects don't move :). Caught a few of the barn yard cat today...admittedly, most of these were shot at 2.8-4 due to light and no tripod with the cat. The plant shots were tripod but still around that same Fstop, trying to keep the background out of focus. Picked this up used on B&H, 9 rating...300 bucks!

I had a trade show to attend in early January, so I decided to at least bring my K-5 in hopes of getting a few shots at the beach if the rain would let up. Well, it did and my mine was blown away by the light on Friday night of my trip.
Most shots are at Huntington Beach Pier on my way back down to the hotel. It had rained for days so the air was clear and crisp. My 50mm held up well, as I left my nice Sigma Zoom at home figuring it would still be raining during my trip(not weather sealed :(. No tripod either so the classic 1 sec water shot would have to be another time. Not bad results for a $100 dollar lens :)

This is the Achilles heel of Pentax in my humble opinion. If the k-1 isn't up to par with at least the D750, I'm jumping ship. I need a decent, versatile AF. Don't get me wrong, I love Pentax and want to stay, but I'm FF bound, and if this doesn't deliver, I'm not waiting another year(?) or more for them to get it right.

Way to go, this doesn't happen all the time and a good amount of "suffering" I'm sure ensued to get this shot.

First Snow at Heil Ranch, Boulder County Open Space and Parks. Often I am challenged with less than ideal conditions for photography, but that is what sometimes makes it so much fun. The challenge to find something unique or interesting, often it is something you would have just passed by and ignored. This day, I reveled in the small and delicate.

Thanks for the comments! Is it hard to do the AF Adjust? haven't dabbled in that before. Yea, I am tempted to sell the K5 and get the K3ii. This will serve as my back up body(eventually)...if, and its a big IF the FF ever gets released. Really like the 50 1.8..so cheap but its yielded some great results. Will upload a shot tomorrow...

Just bought from B&H my Sigma 17-50 for my K5. Been doing quite a few test shots and here's some thoughts on it.
Its not that great in low light...my cheap Pentax 50 1.8 seems better.
Seems sharp, but not totally sure on that at f9 and beyond. Nothing seems that "great" when looking and pixel peeping.
Overall, kinda underwhelmed. Not as sharp as I was hoping...or really that different than Kit lens.
Super quiet..crazy quiet which is awesome.
Fairly heavy, wish it was a little bit further reach.
Thinking maybe the HD PENTAX DA 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 ED DC WR Lens would be a better fit? Better range for only 100 dollars more?? Granted indoors that might not be the best, but I shoot mostly outside and the 50 I have does the trick indoors for now...
Are there settings or general rules of thumb with this lens in particular that I should be aware of with my camera body? Conditions haven't been that great yet to really put it to the test. I am considering returning it unless I can get some better results.
Some say, the Tamaron is a better deal, and lens..thoughts?
Totally willing to admit, it could be the user that is having the issue :)...not the lens or the camera.
Thanks!

It was a long day at work, and I had stayed later than usual. I went to the other side of the building to grab my gym bag when I noticed the light coming thru one of the windows by the front entrance. I've done this just long enough to know, or have that small part of my brain called "hunch" kick in and tell me to go, and go now! I raced over to a spot that was close that had potential. No wind, warm temps and this gift.

Looking to upgrade my photography. First Phase is to update my K5, so it can serve as a better back up camera later on. (want to buy the FF in the spring as main body) I have the stock 18-55, but would like to upgrade to a better lens. Here are my thoughts so far, start off with one of these...might get one more beyond what I choose here, if I can't get the FF right away next spring. Ideal if I can stick with WP lens..but sigma is looking pretty good.
Sigma 17-50 F 2.8
Sigma 17-70 macro F 2.8
DA 16-50 2.8 (I've heard some really bad comments about this lens on B & H..not sure I want to take a chance)
Few other forums have suggest the DA 21, but I'd need something else too.
The DA 55-135 F 2.8
DA 20-40 F 2.8
I do a lot of outdoor / lifestyle photography for my company which makes tents, backpacks etc..so people camping/hiking etc., hanging out at campfire.(see photo attached). So low light is sometimes the norm, hence why I'd like to keep it in the F2 range if possible.

How will the existing lenses do on it? I am on the fence on upgrading my current stock lens on K5 so it can be a back up body, then buy FF when it comes out with new lenses that are developed.
Thinking Sigma sense 2.8 16-55 or the DA of this(which I've heard back things about) for my K5
