I went thru the menu & found the battery settings. it looks like the options are auto, body, & grip. it's set on auto. the battery deleted notice came up again. I wonder if I might have gotten some bad batteries?

it's used at least once a month & I wiped all the contacts with a Q-tip dipped in electrical contact cleaner. for some reason it is no longer doing it. it appears that all is well-for now anyway.
where would you check the lithium battery settings?

I bought this camera new & have never had an issue with it. the batteries recently died & I replaced them with a fresh set of new lithium batteries. the camera powered up & worked normally. then I took some pictures using the flash. the camera worked but after taking the photo the rear screen says batteries depleted. if I turn it off & power it up again it works normally. use the flash & the batteries depleted message comes up again. any ideas?

have i missed something or is all close up & zooming done with lenses. we have a pentax mini camera that zooms, splits frames, etc & all for $90.00. i managed to forget to take my K 200 on a trip to lafayette,la recently & the cheapie did a credible job. got close ups of a carpenter bee on a water lily, shots of gators & herons & comerans. hate to say it but the larger K 200 was not much missed.

I'll check the Adorama site. I checked Abe's 1st since they treated me right when I bought the camera. One of the reasons I went with Pentax Is that I have several manual lenses from my K 1000 bodies. I've been doing alright with the manual lenses but want 1 decent auto lens.

Sigma 70-300mm

while searching here I'm finding posts saying you're better off with the 50-200mm. I guess if y'all could help me with what some of the terminology means I can make a more intelligent & informed choice. & let me explain that I'm pretty much a novice. While it's obvious there have to be features that distinguish the $2000.00 Sigma 70-300mm from the $300.00 model the differences ere more subtle between the $159.00 & $300.00 models. As far as budget I'd like to stay $400.00 or less. I should have bought a lens or 2 when I bought the camera 2 years ago. It seems like prices have nearly doubled. & most of the pentax lenses are on backorder.
OK-the lenses. I can check other websites later but for now here is what I found on Abe's of Maine
Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 DG $159.00
Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG$209.00
Sigma 70-300mm DG OS $399.00

Tamron 70-300mm DI LD $164.00
Tamron 18-200 XRDI $289.00
Tamron 28-200 XR DI Aspherical IF $274.00

SO-what do these terms mean? DG APO OS DI LD XRDI Aspherical......
I know this is a lot to cram into one thread & I appreciate any input. I'll also continue to search past threads & the archives.

I have a K-200. I'm looking for a lens for some wildlife close-ups. It seems that prices have really jumped since I bought the camera, so I'm looking at Sigma, Tamron, & Vivitar lens, none of which are exactly cheap either. For what I'm wanting to do which lens would y'all recommend & why?

I've been checking various websites & I've found 2 different Sigma 70-300 lens. One is $159.00 & the other is $399.00.
The $399.00 lens has the O.S. feature ( whatever that is ). what are the main differences between these lens for the money. The cheaper lens probably lacks some clarity. Also how do the better Sigma lens compare to the Pentax lens??

New K200

1st off. hello to all. I just found & joined this forum. I have a new K200 w/18-55 basic lens & battery grip on its way & want to check on a few things. My 1st 35mm was a spotmatic that was stolen & replaced with a K1000. My research led me to the K200 based on its features & its price AND that i can use my K1000 lenses. My questions are mostly about lens use. How difficult is it to use these manual lenses with the K200? I keep all of my lenses in cases with lens caps & rear caps which should help with dust. what precautions should i take concerning dust when changing lenses? if i were to buy a 2nd auto focus dslr lens which would you recomend for an all purpose lens? Is it more difficult to get good results using the manual lenses?
my manual lens collection includes:
Tokina SZ 80-200 zoom
Pentax -M 1:28 28mm close up
Pentax-M1:2 50mm
Tokina SZ-X 35-70mm zoom
Sigma UC 28-105mm zoom
I've also noticed that with the current flat prices on 35mm film type cameras that there are some really great deals on 35mm camera lenses at the local pawn shops.
