Pentax SMCP-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited Lens Asking Price

Arkansas (United States) Item Description
I bought this 6 months ago thinking it would be a go to boudoir lens. I love the way it feels on the camera and it shoots great but it's only been on the camera a few times. There is no fungus or haze in the lens and it works perfectly.
(K1 for demonstration only but also for sale.) Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

Yes I do use back button Focus and single point spot Focus but I move that Focus Point around to the right spot in the grid for my composure. ---------- Post added 11-04-18 at 08:35 AM ---------- I guess I'm not really seeing the logic in sending a brand new lens in to be fixed especially when it's the second copy in 6 months that have done the exact same thing. I just can't figure out why the Tamron worked so much better and what I'm doing wrong with this new lens.

This one the focus missed her and hit the background. Not too surprising with the distance using single point but I have 20 of them all the same issue and it rarely happened with my Tamron. 1/200 at f5 and 200mm.

This one is also laying on the ground to support things at 200mm shutter 1/400 and f4 with single point spot focus on her face. file is not edited at all and mind you the same body with either of my other lenses is dead sharp.

This shot is typical of what I am doing and getting. Shutter 1/250, f5 70-200 at 150 I was laying on a dock so camera was solid. file is not edited at all.

Well I bought it in April and I did buy the extended warranty too so I suppose it's probably under warranty. Maybe I'll have the wife by a third copy and see what happens.

Thank you so much everybody! I'm shooting portraits, model shots, senior photos that sort of thing and generally at the longer focal lengths from maybe 120 to 200. I have always used single point spot focused and moved it around accordingly with the focal point being the subject face. With this lens so often I had a focus lock on the face but it would actually miss and hit whatever is behind the subject so I tried opening it up to 12 points and still moving it to focus on the face but that had no effect on image quality.
I confess I have no idea what calibrating a lens is about and have never done it on any lens because up until this 70 to 200 I have never had any problems.

I'm shooting a K1 and last spring sold my trusty Tamron 70-200 to buy the MUCH more expensive Pentax version. I picked it up from Amazon and after a couple of months of most shots being out of focus I bought a second copy because I thought there was something wrong with the first one. The second one was worse..
I know it's not the camera because I have a Pentax 24-70 and a Pentax fa77 that both work flawlessly. I have tried different Focus settings in the camera and different settings on the lens and nothing I do helps. I'm to the point where I'm going to sell this dog and buy another Tameron but I thought I would put it out here to see if somebody had some advice on what I could do to make the Pentax lens work for me.

Thanks guys you are VERY helpful! I have never tried TTL or 2nd curtain and not sure I even under stand the 2nd curtain thing. I've got a rain shoot coming up and was told hss pulsates the flash and you want to stay away from that trying to freeze water drips falling.

Thanks guys. No clue what versions I tried so many things I a may have ended up with something old. Yes the laptop sees the flash when you plug it in but not the trigger unless you hold in the menu button. I mean really is it so hard to design a product to be consistent in such a little thing? Well I guess I will wait for the Cactus mono light to come out and hope that will work to put more light on things.

It's just soooo frustrating! The only advantage to Pentax is it's expensive and nothing works with it. I did get my flashes working that day and found it it the controller needed up grade to for them to work. Of course no where is it written you have to hold the menu button in on the controller when you power it for it to update so that took another frustrating hour. I still have no hss but that is in the set up I'm sure and just have not wanted to commit the 5 hours it will probably take to fix. Bottom line is lighting with pentax sucks.
So at the risk of a total break down trying to make it work is there any mono light I can use for a main light that will trigger with my cactus v6II and also fire a couple of RF60x for hair and kicker?

OK so I did the 006 firmware update and now I can't get them to fire from the v6ii. Even with the same set up in the flashes nothing so I tried resetting both to factory specs but no matter what I do they will not communicate. 3 hours of frustration just want to be done with pentax crap.

YES!!! I've tried it both ways on normal and short is better for sure. Long range on either setting even 100 feet away no problem they fire every time. The only time it bothers is at an event where I used to just hold a flash up over my head and fire the cam one handed. Now I put the flash on a mono pod which extends my reach a few feet and it actually works better for the images but not quite as handy to just drop the flash into my bag. I miss the 256 setting on the metz and I think at full power they had more kick but all in all it would take a heck of a lot from Metz for me to go back!
