Thank you all for your replies.

ptimist:
I've checked how I hold the camera and I do use my left eye, however, my nose is still someway from the 4-way controller and I cannot exert enough pressure on it with my nose to change anything. Fun trying though. I'm not in multiexposure mode.
I have changed the drive setting "memory" setting to off. Fortunatelly I see that this does not affect my settings under the "user 1 and 2 settings"

hcc
I've formatted the card a couple of times now. I do have a spare so will see that goes.
Resetting the settings would be a very last resort. I've spent years adjusting everything under each programme.

rbuckeye
No I've not noticed hearing the mirror more than once.
HDR capture is off.

However.......... In checking all your suggestions I've looked at the photos basic exif info and it seems that all of them with the double image were taken in aperture priority - whether that would be under - Auto/aperture priority/user1 - I do not know. But I've just noticed that my user1 (landscape) setting has the drive mode in mulitexposure setting!!!

I've also uploaded a couple of the images to the "check shutter count and manufature date". The detailed exif info there says that the drive mode was in "composite average", I have no idea why but will be going through all my settings! So it appears that the camera was taking two images but I was probably moving so it could not combine them?

Thanks again for all of your comments, hopefully I've now sorted this with your help.

Hi. I've a K-S2 manufactured in Feb 2015 with a 14,000+ image count.

This year I've started to get double images on some photos. It does not seem to matter what setting the mode dial is on, nor what (Penatax) lens I am using. I've attached an unedited photo - apart from resizing.

Anyone any ideas as to what is causing this?

(I've searched the forum, but nothing comes up under Double image, double exposure, etc.)

Thanks

I've posted previously about the issues I have with the Pentax DCU, see

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/58-troubleshooting-beginner-help/310692-p...-problems.html

It's a cut down version of Silkypix. I tried the trial version of Silkpix DS6 and had the same issues, at that stage it did not say compatible with windows 10, the new version DS7 does. But I still have problems with the pentax DCU - version 5.6.2.

I'm still using Fastone, but this does have it's issues - but not in the PC performance stakes.

Why no .dng support?

If you convert an image from .dng to .jpg it loses sharpness - using Fastone anyway.

Continuous shooting - Hi or Low?

Thanks to those that responded to the question - nothing to do with buffering! ;)

However I do understand that buffering will come into play at some time but I use a Transcend 64GB Ultimate SDXC Class 10 UHS-I 600x Memory Card and - for the number of fast rate shots I take (<8) - have not had any problems with buffering.

I do have my camera set to focus priority on all settings and I'm going to give it a go on the lower continuous shooting speed as well. I'll let you know if I think I see any difference. :)

Thanks again all.

Continuous shooting - Hi or Low?

Hi there, I've a K-S2 camera but this may be relevant for our other models.

I'm wondering if the difference in the continuous shooting rates between High and Low will have any difference on continuous focusing capability i.e. would the slower frame rate mean that the camera could focus better during shooting?

Any thoughts, or even better have there been any tests on this subject?

Received this lens today and thought I'd post some size comparison pics.

Top view of lens mounted onto K-S2 body, end view, fully extended. Lens size comparison: SMC Pentax-DA L 18-50mm F4-5.6 DC WR RE; SMC Pentax-DA L 50-200mm F4-5.6 ED WR; SMC Pentax-D FA 100mm F2.8 Macro WR; HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE and SMC Pentax-FA 80-320mm F4.5-5.6

---------- Post added 02-11-16 at 10:50 ----------

My first impressions are that it is a lot 'stiffer' in construction than the 18-50 and 50-200 DA-L lenses and the 80-320 lens. In fact it feels similar in quality to the 100mm macro.

The other immediate impact is how eerily quiet it is! Especially compared to the 80-320 lens that is very loud (but quick). I'll post some photos once I've played with it a bit.

Thanks all for the response to my questions and the examples provided.

I hope the full (PF) review is good as I've just bought one.

If OK it will replace my SMC Pentax-DA L 50-200mm F4-5.6 ED WR and SMC Pentax-FA 80-320mm F4.5-5.6

Here's hoping.

Has anyone bought this lens?

This has been out for a while now and yet I can find no reviews here or anywhere else (UK/USA/elsewhere) so I'm personally wary of purchasing it in case it does not perform.

As a first of its kind I would have thought that the various photo magazines or serious forums (including this one) would have tested it by now.

What gives?

With the 1.11 firmware it all works as it should on my K-S2. I've just got to get my focusing better with more practice - when we have a clear night.

It's a great bit of kit.

Re the screen, we're just back from Vietnam - much more sunshine/bright light there than here in the UK. Though I usually use the viewfinder I used the screen a few times and it was plenty bright enough on its middle setting. In the UK I have the screen on -1 from the middle setting.

My heaviest and largest lens is the Pentax 80-320. It's fine, I hold the lens in my fingers with the palm of my hand under the camera.

How to place the lens, mount side up or glass side up ?

Ho hum, I've always kept my lenses mount side down - in my carry bag. No reason why, just seemed to be sensible.

Thinking about it, it would be better to have them lens side down, then it's just pick up, remove rear cap and mount - rather than pick up, rotate, remove rear cap and mount.

Decisions decisions.

Yes - that's since the update. It works fine as long as the camera is set to a single exposure.

Another tip (Sony Xperia Z5 and K-S2).

LV will not work (though you can take photos and view what's on the camera) if the camera is set to multi-exposure.

Thanks for the responses all.

I do understand the difference in the focusing methods and had always thought that PD would be more accurate (better?) than CD, but steve you seem to say that is not the case? So now based upon the above comments I'm more confused. :(

aleonx3 notes that Simply, viewfinder focusing uses PDAF whereas LV uses CDAF mechanism, they are different units/components in the camera. AF fine adjustment in the camera applies to PDAF only IMHO. and steve you confirm that. OK, if that is the case I definitely do not (from my testing) need to adjust the fine focus of any of my lenses - when using the viewfinder.

However, in your (steves) response you comment that CDAF (LV) has more precision than PDAF. So again from my testing at least two of my lenses would need adjustment, but this adjustment cannot be done - sort of confirmed that when I adjusted the lenses on day 1 I could not get any change in the focusing using LV. so if it has more precision, but cannot be adjusted if out what's the point?

I suppose apart from trying to get a general understanding of what is happening, I'm also trying to confirm whether using LV for Macro photography is the best, or whether I should just use LV to compose the shot and then switch to the viewfinder/PD?

A free bump as having recently bought one of these (also silver) I can say that I'm enjoying it quite a lot. It's reasonably light for the focal length, even my wife likes it. :)

Regrettably I could not afford the 55-300.
