I have several K50 models, I like the color combos, some of them are not used for a bit. I noticed that the 'shutter block' problem has appeared, when the camera has just been left alone, and not used... is this common? a typical problem? Another words if you don't use the camera, does it happen by itself? thanks

Trying to update the firmware on my newly purchased K5. Current version is 1.01. Can't figure a way to extract the new version from SD card.. any ideas? thanks

My viewfinder is cracked after a drop(uggh); Camera seems to work well, no problems, but any recommendations on fixing? I've tried Mack Camera and said no parts are available, too old(???) How about putting clear nail polish over the glass to keep it together? Or superglue? Any good ideas or other shops for a fix? I don't feel scary to look into the viewfinder, bot open to suggertions. thanks

Thanks for the post. I did a few things and got it working in an unusual way. I used a stop down lens & got autofocus, flash, but a non stop down lens did nothing. It seems to work with the stop down lens. It also seems to work with auto lens in manual(non focus).thanks again

I want to use a K50 for just movies, I have several(for the colors), and just use it for movies. I know there are better options, but was wondering if I should avoid doing this. Was thinking of upgrading to a K5 for the movie making only, have K3's for pics and occasional, rare, movie making. Right now I am not getting anything from this K50. Tried sensor cleaning; nothing. No shutter activation, or flash. No autofocus.I can format. thanks.

Normally there wouldn't be a problem with a lens out of the box, so how does the Sigma Dock help? I do own an 18-300 Contemporary lens and have found that there seems to be what I call 'dead spots', when the lens seems to freeze up and not focus, & not release the shutter at that point. Sometimes you have to turn the cam off & re-shoot. Other times I try to change zoom & then re-focus. With Pentax branded lens, there never seems to be a problem. I'm not knocking Sigma, but was wondering if their docking unit would help and how would it work. thanks.

In reference to the K-3 model, which supports 2 SD cards: I would like to know if the setting for RAW, 1st card, JPEG 2nd card, would give the same results if you extract the JPEG from RAW? Are both JPEG the same? I mainly use JPEG for home use, making books and regular photos. I don't plan on using the detail & other delights from the RAW mode, it's just that using it is a good thing for some future use. thanks.

My K-50 was working fine in taking stills, but went dark in taking movies,(go figure), and now its totally gone dark. Does anyone know where that California guy who fixes these things is at or site or mail? I would like him to fix this, he did one before. thanks.

Given the speed and same camera use, would the camera write to a larger size card faster? Ex: 16gb or 32gb or 64gb. Remember: same write speed of the card and same camera. thanks.

I noticed that on Red Carpet showcasings the photogs seem to use cameras that have large, telephoto looking lens. Why this enormous looking lens for a subject so close? The lens' look gigantic for such a close shot. Are there wide angles that are large like that?? any thoughts? A few do look normal. Is there some kind of secret? thanks.

Sometimes I get leary about updates: I've had instances where updates disallowed some third party lens from interacting as before and caused some grief.

When a pic is taken in jpeg a file number is assigned, the number next to it would be the shutter count. The caveat is that this is good thru the first 9999, then the count starts over. So if you know where you are as far as picture taking, this may give you an indication of a quick count.

What I did was to go to an auto parts store and get a bag of assorted rubber O rings. I placed it over my lens to the point where the lens meets the body mount. Works fine; in this case I leave this lens set up with this camera body.

If you format an SD card in one model say a K-50 or a K-3, can you just move the card to a similar model: K-50 to K-50 or K-3 to K-3? This would be for the purpose of not eliminating the pics on the SD card. I understand that you should save the pics to another medium and just use a different card, but I wanted to know if this situation is possible so it wouldn't damage or corrupt files/pics. thanks

I know how to go to the Pentax Firmware site and performed all the correct steps for updating. The update folder appears on the SD card, but when I turn on the camera(K-3), while holding the menu button, I just the typical opening screen. (SD card is in the No. 1 spot). I don't get the firmware option. Any advice? Currently have 1.10 version and want update to 1.30. thanks

This is for a K-3: Sounds stupid, but I was wondering if the 'on' switch of the grip is just for using the grip for trigger fire. Does the camera detect the power source in the grip if the switch is NOT turned on? If the grip is 'on' is there a power draw from the grip battery?
Any folks like to use the Grip here? thanks.
