This is an experience I recently had with my K-5 that may be useful for others.
I took it out in the pouring rain in Kyoto with the 18-135 WR kit lens. The camera performed well, but unfortunately circumstances (museum visit) forced me
to put it in my (also wet) bag afterwards. Which I knew was a mistake, but oh well. After a few hours in the damp air there was condensation in the lens whenever the temperature changed, and also some in my LCD and the panel display. I left the camera with all seals open in my hotel room for a while, and over night put it in a bag of rice.
The next day, there was again some condensation, which disappeared after a quick airing (removed the lens). However, I noticed that some of the buttons behaved funny, particularly the ISO/EV buttons. I was already preparing to write off the camera. But I noticed that some of the buttons were behaving funny in a context-sensitive way, i.e. they worked in some of the menus. Could it be... that it's a software issue? So I reset the camera to factory settings and *boom*, everything worked fine again!
My theory is that the condensation temporarily shorted some contacts in the electronics that messed with the programming of the buttons. So if your K-5 is behaving weirdly after an encounter with the elements, try resetting the software before you throw it out! In my case, no long-term damage was done that I could see.

I introduced my 8 year old godson to my K1000 and mentioned that the pictures would be in black and white. He exlaimed "Black and white! Really?", grabbed the camera and looked through the viewfinder incredulously.

I went on a trip to Japan recently and came back as the proud owner of a Pentax 645 (original model), together with an 80-160mm f/4.5 zoom lens.
Now the thing is that this is a heavy beast, and the long zoom lens makes it even more unwieldy. I did not get the original strap with it, only the two small
metal mount points are protruding from the camera.
My camera store around the corner said they can't get the original from Pentax/Ricoh (no surprise there), and recommends that I buy one that can be attached to the
tripod mount.
Now my question is, is that a good solution or should I rather be looking for a) a used original strap or b) some kind of third-party strap that goes on the proper strap mount?

Hello!
I'm a hobbyist from Cologne (Germany), but currently living in Leiden (Netherlands).
My first camera that could do more than just point & shoot was a Canon PowerShot G9. When it suddenly broke down in 2012,
I decided to use this as an excuse to upgrade to a DSLR. I was looking at Canon initially but after some research got the Pentax K-5, which is still my main camera.
After some intensive use and a lot of learning, my PhD thesis got in the way of photography, but this year I got back into it. Not only with the K-5 but also on film. I have a K1000
and - for only about a week now - an original model 645.
If you're interested I have some pictures online on Flickr.
