You guys are all so awesome!
Second semi related question.
I am currently without any pentax weather sealed lenses (i have all sigma glass currently but will be picking up the new pentax lenses to go with the K1 after tax return time)
How dangerous is it to shoot in some nasty weather with the non weather sealed ones? And like obviously I don't wanna go out in actual rain but is some light snow ok? Is the cold more of a problem without the weather sealing etc?

Thank you everyone! I was really worried about damaging my new baby but I knew deep down that Pentax would come out strong as ever and rugged as hell!

Happy new years everyone!

Lol I'm told that -35 C is average for winter here and should expect -50. Oh boy am I ever excited lolol

Perfect, that makes sense, kinda treat the camera as if its a diver coming up from the depths etc. Ease it into the temperature. Which can be possible because I have an enclosed porch that's cold but no where near as cold as outside and then a back room thats slightly warmer etc. And I'll get some silica packs for the camera bag too! Thanks so much!

Hey all!
So I got the new K1 and holy is it ever awesome!
I was reading the manual though and its only rated to go into -10 C temperatures.
Is that because it will get damaged or do they say that because cold will affect optimal battery life? I live in winnipeg canada and I'm itching to take some shots outdoors but its -35 here today lol

Thanks for your advice!

Fuzzy Always Fuzzy

Thanks everyone for your input!
After extensive testing today I have determined that its the Sigma lens. It's sharp as hell at f4
Some side info: I was shooting reptiles in our hands so I couldn't use OCF as I normally would so that might explain the probable question of "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SHOOTING AT 1600?!?!" I was using continuous video lights that weren't quite up to the task.
I am really happy now that I've figured this out.
The K-1 is on the way too so that should help with my low light performance and ISO handling in theory and will allow me to use my much superior 70-200 lens in closer quarters than I currently can.

Thanks again everyone!

Hey everyone, I don't know what to google for this so I'm hoping you guys can help me out. My photos all have this kinda fuzziness to them and I'm not sure what I'm doing to cause this to happen. Is it my lens is it my body? Lighting? I don't even know where to begin.
Body: Pentax K-3
Lens: Sigma 17-50 f2.8
It's been a little processed but the fuzziness I speak of is still there.
I'm basically looking at improving sharpness and I don't know if its something simple.
Thanks!

How much would you charge for shipping to ontario? I'm thinking I might be interested in the K2. I have a kx but it has dirt all over the focusing prism and its driving me insane lol

Good news everyone!
Got the lever to crank by over cranking it a bit and now its advancing fine.
That being said however it only fires every now and again and it looks like the curtain is getting stuck. Not sure what to do at this point lol

I should have probably mentioned I have fixed a K1000 and a Kx myself earlier this year but the method to get the top plate off is apparently different the newer the camera you go lol. Just can't seem to find any guide on how to disassemble them or anything. The service manual has pictures of it already disassembled and that's not very helpful lol.

Hey all!
I just inherited a Pentax P3 from my uncle, but alas the film advance lever won't advance anything and because of that the shutter won't fire!
I'm not sure exactly what to do in this situation as I can't figure out how to get the top cover off to see if there's a gear slipped or something. Other than that the camera looks like it's in excellent near perfect condition. Any advice?

Is it as loud as say the pentax 50mm 1.4? If that's all I have to worry about im not too concerned. If its quieter then even better!

Yea for the 20mm I'm missing I could just step back 2 paces? lol

Hey everybody!

I have some weddings coming up and it's time to finally invest in a long zoom for them. I'll be strapping it to a K3.

I currently have the Sigma 16-50 f2.8 as my main lens and i LOVE IT!

So I'm not apposed to buying third party. Honestly I wish sigma still did a 70-200 f2.8 but alas they do not.

So my 2 options are the Pentax 50-135 f2.8 or the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8

Both are the same price and I honestly can't decide if I need more of a throw than 135 on a aps-c sensor. This is a lot of money to me so I apologize if it sounds like a dumb question.

Another thing to factor in here. Eventually I will be buying a K1 or maybe even 2 so thats another point towards the tamron. That being said when a aps-c lens is strapped on to a k1 does the benefit of being full frame and its low light performance still factor in?

Thank you in advance!

Grainy Low Light?

Alright so what I've gathered from this thread.
A) I need to properly expose in camera rather than relying on RAW exposure manipulation. Check
B) I need a second mortgage. I'll work on it

Thanks all!

Grainy Low Light?

Hey all!
I love my K3 and I'm sure this is more something I've done to the settings or something than a lacking in its ability. I recently took up night photography but I'm having an issue with it. Even at iso 200 I am getting grainy shots with 30 second exposures. Is there a setting I'm missing that either needs to be off or on to overcome this? Here's a link to an example of what I'm talking about:

I just feel like there shouldn't be that much grain in the sky for how low of an ISO I used?

Thanks!

Like 2 days ago off of amazon. American retail is much cheaper than us up here in the great white north. If I went to staples or best buy up here they're like 90 bucks for the same card. God our dollar sucks lol

Man, I really hope mine aren't counterfeit. They were way way cheaper than retail stores. Only paid 40 bucks each for 32gigs 90mb/sec ones. Gonna have to put them through the benchmarks when they get here

SD card for K3

I just ordered 2 32gig sandisk 95mb/s ones to improve on the performance on the standard speed ones I have. Apparently (according to a post I read before ordering) if you use regular sd cards in the k3 it takes about 45 seconds to dump the buffer into the card. Where as if you use the 95mb/s one it takes less than 27 seconds. Anything to improve that speed is welcomed by me lol.
