Spoiler alert: I use monopods regularly despite having IBIS. It is an old habit from 40 years of film plus big glass. Add a medium telephoto to an ibis body plus old human and a monopod or tripod still has value. Younger bods & eyes can disregard this, but I find extra support helps finer details at slower shutter speeds. I also shoot film still. So my Gitzo’s go with me, including panorama heads and a wonderful travel, CF monopod. I get the above opinions about not needing them and ibis really helps me too!

KP camera body and lenses? Fwiw, Lensrentals.com has the KP for under $60/week, including shipping via fedex both ways. Add more for lenses, but the rates are reasonable. If you are new to LR, there is a promotional discount usually. So for under $140 per week, you could use a KP + lens (E+ Condition) delivered to your door in a couple days. They have the FF kits available too with some nice glass. My experiences with Lensrentals has been excellent; same with KEH, B&H & Adorama etc.

Suggestion only: I like Portra films in P67 for the same reasons you are hooked. I use APS-C (K3ii) with a Voigtlander 58mm f/1.4 Nokton lens and get similar results. Assumes some attention to lighting and composition plus post-processing. The same lens works well on my various PK film bodies, and Portra is a staple film for me. Depending on lens focal length preference, you may want to look for something in a 50~90mm for FF.

Sandy, your first two sentences say a lot! What has really changed; or is this likely a GAS attack? For your KP, the DA PLM 55-300mm really rocks for value, weight etc. It can work on your K1 as well. Otherwise, a heretical thought: Olympus Zuiko 45-150 f2.8 Pro w/ EM1 body! Lol!

It’s business. Global market share for digital cameras continues to shrink under the crush of technologies designed to replace them. Serious photographers are also a shrinking market, imho. All camera & lens makers are feeling the pain. You and I care because we are engaged in this activity, but a few billion others have their phones, and that is all they feel they need...for now.

Rectilinear vs “super-wide” can be unique labels for lenses. I got the 14mm version for similar reasons as yourself, but quickly discovered differences & qualities depending on K3 vs MZs vs adapted M43. How cool, huh? Tips for using super-wides will help you. Post processing can clean up some distortion. .... years ago, a different 20mm Vivitar analog era taught me how to shoot with them. Pointing higher on subjects usually added distortion. Subjects nearer lens periphery were less sharp etc. Then a friend shared a similar aperture, costly rectilinear lens with me, and the eureka moment happened!! I have been GASsy ever since! You may want to try your lens in APSC mode focusing on lens center area. Kudos to biz-engineer-good info! I agree! Humorous observation; astronomical objects vs pointy castles are in different photographic universes. You may not see geometric distortion shooting far away, tiny objects vs huge, towering nearby ones. Sorry for my rambling- need coffee! Good luck!

I am delighted with mine, but it only covers about 75% of my general needs. The more I use it, the better the value. You may want to commit to it or not... That money can buy some nice concert tickets or a set of tires for the car! ;-)

Quick notes: several telescope makers make superb, small, adaptable optic tubes that are generally fixed aperture but very portable. Generally less than f/7, excellent glass and reasonably priced. William Optics (look at new Red Cat!), Explore Scientific are a couple companies; think “astronomy small scopes.” Also consider adding a micro four thirds camera body, Olympus OM digital possibly, adapts your PK lenses with an adapter and effectively doubles focal lengths. I have done this option recently and like the results. Fwiw, I have tried cheap telephoto options with converters etc, and not real happy overall. I have a Pentax da* 300mm + converter that works great. On the OM (m43) body, the 300mm is big but yields very good images with some practice. The m43 body may rescue your Sigma zoomer.

Ridiculous. They are announcing new lenses, new cameras, putting out new firmware & enhancements periodically. Five years from now could be a much different camera-scape, given the half-life of technology. Film should be back in the saddle by then! ...or maybe not. Lol!

I have both lenses and use them on a K3ii. The DA35 f/2.4 is a great value and, with a proper lens hood, performs nicely! I bought the DA20-40mm Ltd because it covered the focal range I use the most AND it is excellent optically! Comparing the two lenses for build quality,; the LTD zoom is superior! Operationally, the DA20-40LTD has been flawless for me, and the DA35mm sits mostly on a shelf. However, the Da35mm f/2.4 has found new life adapted to my Olympus Pen-f! Frankly, the lens comparison is for radically different tools, imo. Having both has been very handy and both work fine, given their respective features and limits.

I identify with your comments! Due to age & health, My recently acquired Oly Pen-f kit (m43) is first choice. The body tech is excellent and the lenses integrate very well. I still see merits in my Pentax investments, but it’s spell has been broken! Fwiw, if I had not sold my OM-1 original for a Spotmatic, I never would have met all of you in this wonderful forum! 😊

There are several criteria & categories depending on the context of the search. Nikon, Canon, Ricoh, Olympus, Panasonic, and other makers were included overall. The BCN, rankings awarded annually, does not concern me or affect my GAS status. :-)

DxO criteria can be cruel to micro four thirds lenses too! However, after comparing many analyses, I realized the relativity of their findings. I concluded that technical is fine, but practical is important too.

I agree. I use the 90mm a great deal and like the slightly wider perspective. Also, the 150mm and 165mm are faves for portraiture and short telephoto work. My first 6x7 Takumar was a 135mm macro, and it works great for the middle range. Excellent values when exercised! :-)

Actually, there are very good adapters Konica AR to PK mount for these. No, you don’t need adapter with optical elements. I use Konica lenses on Pentax dslrs and film bodies and M43 etc. As a Konica AR fanboy since the “T”, the lenses are very good and adapted easily to Nikons, Pentax and even Leica. Check Adapters by Fotodiox as an inexpensive solution. Yup, I still have functional Konica Film bodies...too sentimental! :-)

Cloudynights.com has a great deal of helpful info. Skywatcher and Ioptron brands are big sellers and work great! Many of these small kits backpack and fit medium tripods nicely. They usually deliver excellent results fir timed exposures. Also check Sky & Telescope and Astronomy magazines. First, before investing several hundred dollars more, calibrate and test your GPS & astrotracer.
