This just in................
It's now several hours into the 29th in Japan.
I checked my camera bag and, much to my surprise, my K-5iis was still there and still worked.
It hadn't burst into flames, vaporized, or disassembled itself.

If you are a hobbyist, you can talk about "brand loyalty". The day you start making money from your photography 'loyalty' needs to be tossed out the window. Go with whatever system generates, for you, the most income in the easiest fashion.
If you are worrying that the AF on your camera is not sufficient to shoot a wedding may I politely suggest that you know little about shooting weddings. The gear, IMHO, is nearly irrelevant, you can easily shoot a wedding using all manual focus. The real skill requirement is the experience to plan ahead and be in the right place at the right time with the right lens on. Lighting and preparation are far more important that whatever camera you are carrying.

Well, for me, Pentax AF-C with my obsolete SAFOX IX is good enough for wildlife. But, anyway, a D500 certainly would have helped me a lot! ;) |

Exactly like that! If you compare the K-1 to the D810 you'll see what Pentax is all about.
Dan your example with the sequence of photos from the kingfisher was not so represenative! You showed some pics from a 6000€ FF action camera combined with a fast prime (I hope that we don't speak anout the super fast new 300/4 PF VR which I have also tried and It's one of the finest Nikon OEM lenses) and you expect to compare it with a <1000€ APS-C like the K-3II? If I get 1/6th of the images that guy gets from his super pro and sports-action oriented equipment, then I'm the winner! I'm sure you can see that. ;)

Jpegs work just fine.....like several have mentioned it depends on your setting adjustments, and your processing. In this shot the Jpeg is as good as the Raw for the intended purpose...which is not a billboard size print, just a downsized picture to be web posted. I have my settings adjusted to my taste.....use an old Elements7 program (with two dozen superb plug-ins:D) and can do most every procedure that I can do with Raw processing.
It's fast and easy, the smaller files process faster and my end result is very often as acceptable as the Raw would be. I am not against Raw processing...it is useful and wonderful, just not always necessary.

Want to make a subtle change to the lighting on his face? Selective lighting works as well on Jpegs as on a Raw......I use Light Machine..very handy Plug-In. K1 Jpegs process very easily! :) IMGP5233-800-K1_edited-1 by James Williams, on Flickr
Here is one where Raw and three different programs were used to get a half decent result. It was shot through my office windows, through a side window that has a charcoal colored fiberglass screen. Raw can help get all possible out of an otherwise wasted shot. IMGP5239-800-K1-PSP by James Williams, on Flickr
The first shot took less than a minute to process:)...the second considerably longer!:(
Squirrels don't really care if it is Jpeg or Raw, just as long as they get their few seconds of fame on the internet, so the world can see their astounding "handsomeness" and unflinching bravery!
Regards!:) EDIT: Forgot to mention.....for those that use Flickr, the Aviary is great for minor edits of a shot you have posted there but still needs a little attention. You can do quite a bit of adjustments in there and it is fast and easy.:D
Just a few quick clicks and I changed this one in contrast, focus, and brightness... IMGP5233-800-K1_edited-1 by James Williams, on Flickr

Take out each RAM stick one at a time and see if that makes a difference to booting. Complete boot failure usually caused by cpu fault/RAM fault/mobo fault/power fault. You can be a bit stymied if you don't have eg another cpu to try to see if that's the problem.
Overheating cpu? symptoms of that are typically that it start booting and then it stops as the thermostatic trip fires.

Have you considered the Pentax or Sigma 17-70 ? Much cheaper and smaller than the 24-70...
For me, it sounds more like a need for high aperture prime lens than a FF standard zoom... What about a 50mm 1.4 ? Or the DA* 55mm 1.4 ? Without forgetting the 77ltd or even the DA70... All of them would provide you much better subject isolation and bokeh than what you have or would get with a 24-70 zoom... Even the modest DA50 1.8 will give you very good subject isolation for much less money than the D-FA 24-70.

Also take into account that the D-FA 24-70 is in a much higher price class. Its judged with that price point in mind.
There is also a Sigma 24-70 f/2,8 for sale at 250$ in the marketplace. This could be a cheap try before you decide lens. In case you dont like the focal lengths, quality or lens, you will probably get your money back on selling it.
You might also consider primes a little longer then your 50mm and larger aperture. FA 77mm f/1,8, a 85mm of some sort or Tamron 90mm f/2,8 macro or Pentax 100mm f/2,8 macro
If you dont have enough choices already, consider an external flash and diffuser. Pointed up, towards a wall or other places could lower your ISO indoors significantly and freeze action much better.

A ton of responses, I was not expecting all this help. Thank you everyone!
Alright, you guys got me leaning toward the K-70. I wanted the K-1 because it is "the best", but I am worried that 1) Learning on an advanced camera with so many features/options will leave me feeling overwhelmed and scare me off from photography 2) Since I'm a beginner I won't get the most out of the camera's technology, because starting out I'll get about the same results I would with another camera.
And price is another consideration. I think it makes more sense to spend more money on lenses and cases than a camera right now. I will look into the macro lenses, thank you for the recommendation.

While making your decision, it's worth considering that until about the Spring of this year (2016), most people on Pentax Forums were raving about the quality of their crop-sensor cameras (and rightfully so). And before roughly the start of 2014, it was a 16 megapixel camera (or less), to boot!
The less you worry about the gear, and the more you worry about technique and style, the more affordable and fun photography becomes. A boring picture taken with a K-S2 will still be a boring picture taken with a K-1.
So, I'd forgo the K-1 for now. But that's just my opinion.
