I got the JJC remote working with Q. It works from the front and the back, but the angle is a bit narrow in the back. it has to be more straight on.
thanks for all the pointers from forum members here.

Bingo!! can't believe i never looked there!
Thanks a lot! ---------- Post added 06-24-16 at 01:29 PM ---------- Might as well add something useful here.
Looks like the Q-S1 can stop video recording via IR, where as the Q only starts video recording. (unless I missed something else)

I tried 3 ir remotes and none worked for the pentax q. They all claimed compatibility.

Am I doing something wrong?

I want to see a weather sealed q body. That said, I'm not sure the existing lenses are weather proof.

Btw the display can be turned off before recording starts, but not after.
Can anyone verify this feature on the Q7 and Q10?

I just tried this on the orig Q, pressing info twice in video mode turns display off (firmware v1.14).
But Q-S1 doesn't work this way. I have suggested this to Ricoh via their customer feedback.

I use the q-s1 on a tripod to record my basketball games in a gym. The video quality is crisp, and auto-focus for back-and-forth action works great.
But in this setup Im battery life constrained. While i have 3 batteries, i still dont have enough for 2 hrs of basketball.
Can the display be turned off for video? No one is watching during recording.
I also wonder the same question for interval capture. I hope the Q is smart enough to conserve power for long intervals.
Im also having issues with occasional overheating. Im using an eyefi card.
Any suggestion for my setup?

You guys worry too much. If that sensor can work in nikon p900 then it can be made to work just as well in pentax q.
I do agree on two points: native lenses might not pair well (luftfluss thinks 01 and 08 can work and i tend to agree); q-s1 sensor is already bigger so its a regression.
I would take a 1/1.7" sensor too, as long as it has the smallest pixel pitch that makes sense. Why? Because then i can get max resolving power with max reach, on a shoestring budget.
Image quality will never be the strength of the q. Dont even bother.

Yeah i get that. It's a camera body, lens choice and the result is up to the user. But i do agree the native lenses should be tested. Would be interesting to see the optical resolution of the native lenses.
I have good lenses so i would like to get higher pixel density. Just saying i would buy it.

My point is a 16mp sensor is available in the same form factor, so a it's a drop-in upgrade. Is that naive?
I didn't consider lenses at all, since Q has many lens options.

Hello fellow Pentaxians,
I was a pentaxian once long time ago, when I tried the Pentax Optio S. That one didn't last long, but now I'm back again with the Pentax Q and Q-S1. These two are simply marvellous cameras, almost grail cameras for me since I've always loved compact cameras with good to superior IQ.
I joined the Q line a bit late but with the current prices, how can I pass them up? :p
