Some people want to fit in, others to stand out. Some buy Canon, others buy Pentax.
I fly control line model airplanes. How's that for standing out!

I was typing up a response on another thread and noticed that Firefox spell checker highlighted the word Pentax and suggested that I replace it with words pen and tax. This seemed odd so for kicks, I typed in words Canon and Nikon. Neither word was marked as misspelled. This leads to a an obvious conclusion: Nikon and Canon are in cahoots to eradicate Pentax as competition by subtle media and internet manipulation.
I am also starting to notice that Pentax's logo red ink is starting to take Nikon yellowish tint. I think Nikon is secretly injecting Nikon yellow into world's supplies of Pentax Red ink.

The problem occurred both in day light and indoors. So, do you think this is a lens issue?
I'll definitely call Pentax service line.

Less than a month into my camera/lens ownership, my camera developed an odd problem(intermittent). Here's what happens:
1) With shutter button half pressed, focusing motor rotates focusing barrel all the way to the left(closeup) and refuses to refocus properly.
2) If I release the shutter button and try to rotate focusing barrel by hand, it won't budge.
3) switching to MF on the lens does not help any
4) switching camera off and on does not help either.
5) moving focusing switch on the body to manual does and back to AF, does not work
6) the ONLY thing that seems to work is switching body switch to MF, rotating focus ring all the way to the right(infinity) and switch back to AF.
7) I've tried another lens(FA31) and it does not exhibit this problem.
What could this be? How can I correct it? HELP!!!

Most places will refund the price difference if their own price drops within 30 days of the purchase. I keep checking Amazon(that's were I bought mine) and in 10 days since I bought the camera, the price dropped ~$120 and I was given a credit

Wow, that ball head is an arm and a leg. Manfrotto makes very good ballheads for under $100. I own 486RC2 and love it. The only improvement over it is a vertical(not horizontal) pistol grip ball head model 3265. I played with it at the local camera shop and it was fantastic!

I just bought a K20D and am looking to try it with a SDM lens. So, here's the deal:
I have a like new P-FA 31mm Limited with all original box(even box barcode is intact), leather case, manual and serial# card. Basically, everything it came with when new. This is my second FA31L.
I would like to trade for a new in box DA* 50-135.
New FA31L, according to NexTag, sells for $850.
New DA*50-135, according to same source, sells for $740.
Is anyone interested in straight 1:1 trade?
My ebay id is syampolsky. I'd prefer to trade with someone who has a history on eBay or here.

Any chance someone can post test procedure as well? Common test procedure will only make these results more consistent.

The bottom line is this: get what you think will do the job for the price you can pay and take it from there. [/QUOTE]
Excellent point!

A member of my CL club has been using a predecessor of E-510, the E-500. This past season, we had an opportunity to shoot similar events. His results were comparable to my K100 and even better(he's a MUCH better photographer). We've swapped cameras just to get a feel for the differences. Pentax is heavier, e-500 is quicker to focus. In the end we both came to the conclusion that BOTH cameras are comparable. Unless you plan to make a living by selling great photos, either camera will be just fine. As for XTi, build quality is indeed questionable but is adequate. I owned an XTi for a few weeks before exchanging it for a K100D.
Pick E-510 or K100D and you will behappy with either choice. XTi is a second tier contender. |

Beach is one to deal with! Bought a lense from them earlier this year that had an optical defect. They exchanged it without ANY delay.

Why would Pentax announce a US-only, exclusive Walmart model(S10) during a German show? Something does not add up. Either Pentax marketing folk are completely nuts or something else is coming.

How about Lightroom? It's inexpensive and uses the same RAW engine as CS3.

I am using Lightroom and when I try to export a photo as DNG, it shows an option for how good a quality imbedded JPEG is going to be. This leads me to believe that DNG stores two copies of an image: raw and JPEG. This actually makes sense to do. Most upscale DSLR's(K10D, D200, 5D) let you store two images of a photo: raw and jpeg. The problem is management: importing pictures into Lightroom, for example, causes doubling of a picture. By keeping JPEG and RAW in one file, makes it much easier to manage.

I had similar problem in the past. It was traced down to the card reader. I used to take the card out of the camera and import pictures via card reader in order to save battery juice. Lightroom(and even straight copying) would fail on random files. When I tried importing directly from camera, ALL files were imported successfully! I've been using camera to import images ever since. 5000 pictures later, import success rate is 100% with camera import.
Steve
P.S. I have been using the same 2GB card since I bought the camera.

Please! Talk about your LBA!!! It helps me control my desires to buy every lense in sight! Sorta like talking about drugs: it won't necesserily cure the addict but it will stop someone from getting addicted in the first place.

There absolutely are such stores and they are well known! I ignore those as a rule. Beach Camera, BuyDig or Abe's of Main are just as respectable as B&H.
By the way, those dishonest type of stores are advertising bodies for $75 less but I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

OK, I may be clueless heres, but doesn't color space apply to RAW as well as JPG?

When!?!?! I am anxious with anticipation here!
There is one thing that Canikon crowd has over Pentax(well, two things but one is going to be in stores in a month or two, right?): sustainable FPS. In every other area, K10D is on the par with the likes of D200 or 30D.
