Do you think that Ricoh/Pentax will release any new reasonably priced KAF4 lenses in the foreseeable future? I'd love to get my K-50 back into action.

My vote goes for the 55-300 PLM simply because its focussing is the fastest, which can be an issue with wildlife.
I had the DA*300mm lens before and while the image quality is really high, I consistently found the focussing to be too slow, esp with a TC. Of course, if THAT is not an issue for you, it would be the lens to get.

I have used multiple Pentax DSLRS and my favorite for B/W and similuted IR look in B/W is by far the Pentax K-7. The images seems to have a really nice luminosity. Regret selling my K-7 for that reason alone.
Having said that, I don't really think there is a 'best' DSLR for B/W as it is subjective what each person prefers.

I didn't know that. Thanks for the advice. I know what to look out for now. What is the key diffrence between the current mount and KAF4?

I am hoping they release a PLM kit kit lens or wide angle len so I can use my K-50 again, sinceit has now suffred aperture block failure twice so I don't want to repair it again.
Is that a possiblity or is PLM only something useful on longer lenses like the DA 55-300mm lens?

hlef waiting for a PLM kit lens
I'm sorry to report that my K-S2 has now suffered the same fate as my K-50. All images are dark so I assume it is also a case of aperture block failure. Lucky for me, the shop offered a three month warranty so I sent it back in for a refund. My K-50 is still on the back shelf waiting for a PLM kit lens to be released.

Just to add to this thread, I found DCEXPERT really good to deal with. I ordered a demo (not brand new) K3 with the kit lens that had been used as a display model.
The lens was damaged in transit but they refunded the total price (lens and camera) without requiring me to return either, so effectively I ended up getting the camera for free.

Interesting. I was wondering if I can get away with something similar for travel. What sort of situations would you use the 40mm lens in as opposed to using the zoom?

This may be the case in some US states (as that seems to be the practice there) but under Australian law the manufacturer and importer must offer a warranty, regardless of where it was purchased as long as you have a valid proof of purchase that can be verified (if necessary). Warranties are also transferable under law. Local shop policies cannot override these statutory requirements.

I would agree with that as I had my K50 repaired by CR Kennedy (the official Pentax supplier) in Australia and about 18 months later it failed again, so I won't bother to repair it at all.
The closest camera to the K50 is the K70 but I ended up buying a Pentax K-S2 which is a sort of lateral upgrade to the K50 for around $250. Great camera to use and fantastic image quality. Pentax K-S2 Review - Conclusion | PentaxForums.com Reviews |

Under Australian consumer law, even if bought from an external seller you can send it to CR Kennedy for service under warranty (if still covered).

Was that from Japan? If so, that is surprising to hear. I have bought multiple lenses from Japan and they have all been better than the descriptions, plus most sellers provide close up photos of the item from multiple angles.
Re shipping, eBay automates that but in few cases I have asked the sellers for a lower shipping price and they have manually adjusted it.
If you are not in a hurry, ask for economy airmail with Japan Post as that is the cheapest option and still very reliable. From Japan to Australia that option takes about 2-3 weeks.
In Australia, technically Customs are supposed to charge 10% GST (VAT) on any item when it arrives (if this has not already been collected by eBay) but often only do that if the item exceeds AU$1000 in value.

For hiking carrying a full size DSLR plus a large zoom is just not practical.
For those kind of situations I tend to use a Canon G10 or Canon S110. Both cameras are very compact but have outstanding image quality. The S110 has a 24-105mm zoom range which is generally more than enough.
An alternative is just using the 21mm Limited as it’s so compact but great for landscape photography.

A Nikon F801 (N8008 in the US) on a trip to Hong Kong in 1989 and then took it all over Europe, Asia and Australia. Used that camera for over decade and it was still going strong. That camera introduced me to the joys of photography and I have always regretted giving it away.... Nikon N8008 / F-801 - Camera Review - Casual Photophile |

Isn't the K50 effectively just a cosmetically tweaked K30? If so, any K50 firmware update should be fine in the K30.

For specific purposes 35mm is great BUT for a general walkaround lens, I find it not wide enough and much prefer the 21mm Ltd.

I don't know what those dots are but they don't look like fungus. I live in a tropical area and have lost two lenses to fungus and it looks white and squiggly.

I have that exact TC and the main problem is that it really slows down the focusing, making it difficult to use for sports or fast action photography. Anything else is is fine. Of course if you focus manually this isn't a problem.
With my Pentax DA *300 and 55-300 PLM lenses I didn't experience any significant drop in image quality.

Thanks for posting this comparison, as I've always wondered how these two camera models would compare given they have the same sensor (AFAIK). It's subjective of course, but I prefer the K10D color rendition. The D80 shots seem over saturated.

Before switching over to Pentax, I used various Nikon cameras for years. The D700 has beautiful image quality and, in my books, about the closest to Pentax. And the body is as solid as a rock. Highly recommended.

Amazing photos!
Is that in the Netherlands? Except for the first photo, the country scenes remind me of my childhood there.

I am a big fan of the K10D IQ, but in this particular photo the K1 color tone and IQ looks much better.
