I bought a mint used Leica IIIF Red Dial w/50mm 3.5 Elmar in 1960 for $125 (todays equivalent = $1,225) while a new one was $240 ($2,350 today). Listened to my wife bitch a bunch and finally sold it for peace and quiet. It was a wonderful mechanical object and I always missed it. If I remember correctly, replaced it with a Potoroid.

I recently bought a mint S3 from the original owner via the Marketplace. Sent it to Eric for a CLA. It is one very smooth puppy. Only problem is I don't get out much anymore, so it's basically sitting in a drawer. In the early 1960's I was using a Leica 3f red dial. Was thinking of getting one again for old times' sake, But the price for a M39 screw Leica lens in decent shape is way too much for my taste, plus the tiny rangefinder window was always a PIA. The nice thing about the S3 is the viewfinder window is totally uncluttered. I really need to get my lazy butt out of the house and shoot some film.

Eric received an S3 from me for a CLA on 3/19/22 and sent me an estimate, paid it the same day. I just received the camera back today (4/8). Total of 20 days including shipping to me. In my opinion, that is excellent service. The 60 year old camera appears as new.

All the speculation regarding a new Pentax film camera just had me go to the Marketplace and buy a Pentax S3. Decided not to wait for Pentax to resurrect anything, so decided to try totally retro. Was amazed at the amount of different B&W film types available at B&H. Even dug out my ancient selenium Sekonic meter. My first 35mm was a Leica 3f red dial with an Elmar 50mm f3.5. I priced them out on eBay and decided that $70 for an S3 w/lens & case plus an Eric H. overhaul for $80 plus a bit for shipping was enough to spend on 1960 technology just to cure an itch. Am sure I'll spend a bunch more on film processing as there is no way I'll ever mess with the film chemicals again.

I recently purchased one from eBay on Dec. 16 for $288. Had to buy a $15 front cap, so figure about $300 total. It was from a US seller in SC.

You still need to edit the price at the top as it still shows $500. There is a second place to edit; just don't remember where. I've run across this in the past when lowering a price.

I just read this entire thread and have a totally off topic comment.
It is one of the finest grouping of thoughts on an interesting technical subject that I have ever read. Also every poster was very respective of all others views. No nasty criticism, snide remarks, etc. I thoroughly enjoyed the time that I spent reading it. My take is that the digital revolution is wonderful in all its variations. My first "real" camera was a Leica 3F w/50mm Elmar, then Nikons, then autofocusing Nikons, then Canon digitals, finally a Pentax K-S2. I don't do prints anymore, so it is way more than I need as all my pics end up being viewed on monitors. I do not miss dealing with darkrooms and chemicals. Recently found a Mamiya 6X7 in the back of a closet. What a PIA to use. It will be going up on eBay soon after I sell the last of my Pentax non-digital lenses.
Anyhow, I appreciate all the insights presented in the thread. PS: The pics that I got from my 6 mp Canon were as good as anything I ever got with my Nikons; go figure!

No , somewhere along the line I recently stumbled across a Mamiya RB67 Professional with a 127mm lens and have decided to play with it for a bit. Learning how to operate it has been a challenge, as all the Youtubes and IB's are for the RB67 Pro S; this is the first (Ca. 1970) model and several changes occurred in 1974 with the Pro S. This critter will keep me from hunting for LX stuff for a while. I'll probably only use it for landscapes. First challenge is to replace the light seals, which is a DIY challenge. Don't know of an Eric Henderson for the RB's.

I just added a Winder LX to the collection. Got it on Fleabay in excellent condition. Only issue is that it has almost too many abilities plus a 16 page instruction manual to explain things. Good grief; they engineered in as many features as they possibly could, using a total of four buttons and dials. It certainly seems well made, but remembering its processing sequence seems to be a PIA. Probably will become a safe queen.

My recommendation is to send it to Eric and then life will be good with your K1000. He recently did a K1000 CLA and a prism replacement for me = $70. Just got a roll of B&W processed and digitized; came out fine. I'll print them tomorrow. Have forgotten that part of the lure of film is the wait for the results. No instant gratification. Sort of like Christmas when you were a kid.

I recently picked it up from Fleabay, was from KEH. The viewfinder was full of fungi; never was mentioned in the listing! Anyhow, sent it to Eric. For $70 he did a prism replacement, CLA, and shipped it back. It looks and handles like new. Took 3 weeks. The guy is a master. I can now retire my other film camera (Nikon 6006) and really go old-time retro. In the meantime, I picked up a couple of A lenses that I can use on my K-S2 if I decide to try them.

Just ordered a KS2 from COSTCO w/two lenses and a case for $497 delivered. The tilt screen and price is what sold me. I've been a Canon G series user for 10+ years (through several upgrades) and decided to get a new camera. The latest G has a fixed screen; no go. Was almost going to a Nikon DSLR, when I researched Pentax and found the KS2; exactly what I was looking for at the right price. I'll pick up a Pentax 50mm 1.8 lens, as in the past had a fast 85mm on my film Nikons and loved it. Dropped out of serious photography a while back. Now might get into it for a bit.
