I passed on the LX. I bought a late model MZ-S instead. My film setup now consist of that camera, a SMC FA 50mm f/1.4, and a SMC PENTAX FA* 300mm F/4.5. Thanks for the input. I would have bought that LX if I thought it would work with the AF Adapter. This forum saved me a headache in that regard.

I see the logic now; but thought it was to also help manual cameras have a auto focus system with some lenses. Some days I am a big dummy.

Because you just taught me something. I incorrectly assumed since the LX is all manual, the AF adapter would work with it. In fact, I considered the LX to be the exact type of camera it was built for. Thanks for your reply.

I have a opportunity to buy a Pentax LX 35mm Camera. I already own a SMC PENTAX FA* 300mm F/4.5. I have searched this forum but cannot find anyone who states the 1.7 adapter worked with this lens.

Is there anyone who had or is having success with this particular combination?

Thanks in advance, James

I got out and took a few shots. It was late afternoon and the lighting was harsh so no keepers. Auto focus is acceptable but for tripod use not really needed. I did the ruler test. Back and front focus is acceptable. I may tweak it a little. The brick wall test showed the corners a little soft at 1.8 and 2.8; but from 5.6 to 16 everything looks great, I won't be returning it.

This is going to be my everyday lens until I can save up for the new Pentax 50MM. It is snowing in Cincinnati right now; if it eases up by nightfall I may go out again. I love the feel of this lens on my K1. It may way a little over pound but it balances out perfectly.

I just bought a used Sigma 28mm 1.8 EXDG Macro. Took delivery on it today and I am pumped. KEH listed the condition as excellent, cosmetically it looks mint.Tomorrow I will pixel peep it with shots of a brick wall and a ruler type auto focus test; today I am going to shoot with it!

Man this lens looks nice and to me it is balanced perfectly weight wise with My K1. It does not feel heavy at all.

I still want the 150-450 for birding next year. Normal to wide angle all around lens comes first though. I hope the new 50 lives up to the hype for sharpness.

Exactly! This is a lens to keep in my memory bank. As someone already already said, this 25mm paired with the 100mm I already have will provide a versatile macro setup. Priority for me though is to see how sharp the new 50mm is when it comes out. The Venus Zero D is the sharpest contender in my opinion but man 12mm is wide!

DFA*50 1.4 coming

I trust ephotozine but buy knowing the return policies of both B&H Photo and Adorama. I may order this one through Dodds since I can drive there in less than 30 minutes if I decide to return it. But then again, I do like the price of Adorama's 2 year drops and spills warranty; so maybe I won't go through Dodds.

I agree with you and like ephotozine. They do not seem biased towards a brand name either; which is apparent with their review of the Canon 50mm 1.2L USM. It will be their test that is the determining factor if this will be my next lens or not. I would much prefer Pentax to have went with a 24mm lens; but I can make a 50mm work provided it is top notch from the center to the edge.

Landscapes, night photography, and astrophotgraphy. My next prime lens will be tack sharp; that is a requirement.

Hopefully ephotozine or another site will have up a review/test by the end of April. I will wait until then. I do have high expectations for this lens.

The Zeiss Planar T* FE 50mm F1.4 weighs 778 so hopefully the optics will be equal or better.
The ZEISS Milvus 50mm f/1.4 ZE weighs 922.

The 1.4 is not a necessity; but if the center and edge to edge sharpness is on par with the Zeiss Planar T* FE 50mm F1.4, the new 50 will be near impossible to pass on.

I am going to wait on the reviews. If the 50 blows the 24 - 70 out of the water for edge to edge sharpness it will be tempting. I am interested in the 24 - 70 for the 35mm and 50mm ranges. They are outstanding from everything I have read. This could be a tough decision as I will only buy one of them.

I am buying at least one more lens first but I may get the upgrade before Sept. 30th. I like the idea of better High ISO performance; just not enough to buy another camera. Even if I don't upgrade, the offering is pretty nice for us that have already bought into the K1.

Pentax 28mm Shift vs Rokinon 24mm TS

The Rokinon will be strictly used at around F11 with sharpness and deep depth of field being the only thing in mind. Ansel Adams was in the F64 club, the Rokinon can be in my F11 club should I get it.

Here in Cincinnati I will use it primarily for pictures of interesting buildings. Then what I have in mind for a trip out west is to to get the sharp DOF from the nearby ground all the way out to the mountain range.

I am going to get one or the other; it is just a matter of which.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I am still thinking about which to get. I like the idea that the Pentax is said to be built like a tank; but the tilt/shift of the Rokinon is more flexible.

Pentax 28mm Shift vs Rokinon 24mm TS

I am getting close to buying my next lens and until I heard about the Pentax Shift 28mm F3.5's sharpness was all set on the Rokinon 24mm 3.5 TS.
I have read the Pentax is a really sharp lens and well made. Rokinon I heard is sharp enough but not very well made. The used Pentax would save a few hundred dollars but I would not get the tilt. This lens is for my FF K1.

Question is: for landscape and taking pictures of interesting buildings would I be satisfied with the Pentax Shifts ability?

I just checked his site and this is what is listed as David Yarrow's lens: If you can afford all that equipment, good for you. I am going to be doing good if I reach my three lens travel setup goal by June or July.

" • 105mm macro
• 20mm f1.4
• 24mm f1.4
• 28mm f1.4
• 35mm f1.4
• 50mm f1.4
• 85mm f1.4
• 105mm f1.4
• 200mm f2 "

The man has definitely gone all in on Nikon; which makes sense since he is one of their ambassadors.

Every thing I have read on Sony indicates it is the lens cost that is the biggest detriment to Sony's FF brand. I am not a pro but I still wanted to be able to afford to put together a high quality system. The K1 checked a lot more boxes for an all around everyday camera than any other; and I do mean near pro level quality. It is the best camera and system I will ever need to own.

It should not be a shock that finding used lens for a newer FF camera system is hard to do. Sony may have been around since the near pro release of the mirrorless A7R and lower priced A7; they really took off more recently with their second and third editions. Most who bought into the A7 or A7R have probably upgraded their camera and held onto their lens. Which makes a lot of sense when you have to invest 1000.00 to 2000.00 dollars in every decent lens you buy.

I have been working on a new workflow using the old and free Nik Collection. This is a shot I took in December at the Krohn Conservatory. The color of the flowers are not true to life but I like the way this turned out. Pentax K1, 100mm Macro WR, and a monopod.
