How did you adjust the flash power via the FN button??
Also the Metz 48 always reads TTL and when I press the MODE button I get a message "res"

That was a collection of organic matter that was decaying. Items like sea weed, sea grass and wood chips that get washed up during storms and high tide I guess. They don't get washed back out to sea so they lay there and decompose into a sort of mulch:confused:.
