Woah, this is awesome.
I love insect photography in general but spider's especially, even though I'm kinda afraid of them lol. Maybe that's why they intrigue me in the first place. Great shot. Really nailed the focus in my opinion.
If I can pick your brain a little, I have a question. I've only done macro stuff with cheap extension tubes on a 50mm lens because that's all I could afford at the time. Is it easier to do macro with a longer focal length lens like you've used here? Is stabilization an issue if you're doing it handheld? I imagine I'd be quite shaky trying to nail this shot handheld lol.

Yeah the MZ-S looks nice, and I'll probably go that route. I mainly got this because the price was so attractive for the features it has, despite it's faults, and the fact that the seller accepts returns. I'm toying with the idea of fixing it myself, but for the trouble that seems to entail I'm sure it's not worth my time, even though it could be fun. Too many other things can go wrong and it's not like I'm a camera tech.
Also, and this is really shallow, but I think the MZ-5N just looks cooler than the MZ-S. I like the controls better too.

Lol, you jinxed me mate. So I didn't buy that ZX-50, because I found a ZX-5N for the same price and it has better features. Unfortunately it still has plastic gears that break. I just got it in the mail today and released the shutter no more than 3 times and now the mirror is stuck up. I guess there's a reason why it was so cheap on Ebay, granted they claim it was "tested and working". The thing looks mint. I can only assume those parts degrade with age even when not being used, or it's been dropped in shipping.
Either way, the seller has a 30 day return policy, which is why I didn't mind rolling the dice on it. Oh well. Sucks because I love the way it feels in my hand, even if it is plastic. It's so light.

True. If it was any more than $20 I probably wouldn't be considering it, but as you said the lens itself is worth that if it's working and clean. I plan to snag a different, more durable late-era Pentax film SLR at some point so I should be able to use it on that.

Hey thanks! Now I know what to check for. Yeah I think it's worth it, if anything just to have a cheap camera/lens to toss around while on vacation or something.

Title says it all. Someone local is selling that combo. It's virtually mint condition and fully functional. Would you consider this worth it?

I unfortunately do not have any knowledge or insight on Pentax film compacts to add, but I do think it would be nice if the article you're thinking of included some info on some of the stand out models that people liked/were considered "better". That's really why I was looking for some information on them initially, is I was hoping to make a recommendation for someone who was asking for suggestions on a good point-and-shoot film camera with autofocus/zoom. I thought it would be cool to give them a Pentax recommendation. Whatever you guys decide to do, I'll look forward to it. Thanks!

Yup, that's what I'm looking for. I should have specified film point and shoots. Those are specifically what I was searching up. Oh well, it's all good. Thanks for the info you guys!

Sorry if this is a noob question but I'm trying to gather some info on all the Pentax point and shoot cameras throughout the years, but I can't find any info listed for them on this forum like I can for the film SLR's and stuff. Is that information simply not here. Do we only have specs and stuff for the SLR's and stuff? If that's not listed here, does anyone know of a resource they can point me to?
Again, sorry if I just overlooked it, and thanks for any help.

Thanks! I do like this framing better, and I appreciate the guidance. I do tend to boost my colors too much. It's an ongoing struggle to tread the line between realistic and "ooh pretty colors", lol. I also need to calibrate my monitor so that's a thing. I appreciate your input.

Wow, that's awesome! Isn't it addictive? Just when you think you've found a pattern it throws you a curveball and something doesn't "mesh" well. I spent hours, literally.
Pro tip: the site has membership levels that increase based on participation. When you start, your images can only be output/processed in a lower resolution/quality. To get around this I take the low res output and put it into this website that uses similar AI, neural network tech to enlarge images by 2x (literally, 2x is in the name) with little detail loss. The reality is that to avoid detail loss they apply selectable levels of noise reduction. As I'm sure you know, noise reduction smooths images at the sacrifice of detail.
Well, losing detail doesn't really matter in this case, because the DeepDream output is already unrealistic and realistic details aren't a concern. So you can enlarge your output immediately without having to spend hours to days upgrading your membership on the site via participation. The enlarger site is https://waifu2x.booru.pics/ I don't know what the anime character theme is for, but the site works and it's SFW and all that jazz.
I usually put the output image from DeepDream through the waifu2x enlarger as many times as possible to yield a large photo...just because really. There is a size limit oif around 3400x3400 I think...something like that. Still better than the small output from DeepDream. Anyway, glad you like it and have fun!

I stumbled across Google's DeepDream AI image processor the other day, and I've been addicted to seeing how a lot of my favorite shots look when I run them through it. It uses a convolutional neural network to find and enhance patterns in images via algorithmic pareidolia, thus creating a dream-like hallucinogenic appearance in the deliberately over-processed images. It's a simple upload and click a button process, so it kinda feels like cheating, but the results are stunning. It's kind of random though, so it's hard to tell what you're gonna get until you try it. This is a shot I ran through it that came out looking like a painting. I really dig it. I included the original shot for reference.

What do you guys think?

I'd like to try this shot again with a wider lens or maybe even do some climbing

Hey thanks! What you see is actually already cropped. Just wanting some thoughts on whether the crop was good. I can post the original if you'd like to see it with no crop. Thanks again!

Thanks! Yea I was surprised how much the sky in the background ended up looking like a studio backdrop in the black and white conversion. Really cool effect.
