The beauty of Sir Norman Foster's Metropolitan building in Warsaw consists of its ability to dissolve in its surroundings. It almost dissapear if you look up into the sky.

How do you shoot the moon?

There are two clous: stability and exposure. You should have a really sturdy and stabile tripod. Use selftimer and, if you have, remote shutter release. As far as exposure concerned try to set lowest ISO possible and f8. Start with 1/160s. Set AF to spot. You can take really nice images of the moon.

It is extremely difficult to find a proper way to picture an idea. Especially the idea of peace. There are 4 marvelous entries in this competition and the honour goes to Ramseyebuckey. Feeling peace and safe is very personal but the sun will alway rise and set and this consistency makes me stronger and more peaceful everyday. Congratulation Tom.

Portrait. I don't like taking pictures of people. They are moving, talking, getting angry, tired and so one. But I realized it would be good excercise so I called my daughter and asked her if she could do some modelling for me. Nope, she said, forget it. Another reason not to take pics of people-they tend to refuse... I decided not to give up. There are 7 billion people around the world, about 1.5 million of them live in Warsaw so no way I'll surely find some interesting faces... So here it is.
By the way, I used my HD55-300WR at 300mm so it is not tack sharp.

Weekly Challenge WINNERS >> PROJECT 52-8-24- Architecture- Interior

Thank you for your entries. Great stuff this week, as usually, I must say.

But I have to judge the competition and this seems to be quite difficult.

ChristianRock: Due to exposition, the outside catches the eye first not the interior which is underexposed. But I like the composition and colours of your picture.
Slowpez: Well done Susan. Good example of finding interior outside with a lot of details. Must be quite important place for young people in the neighborhood.
Tamia: Nice shot with very interesting details. Especially slanted beams of roof structure that divide the frame. And nests. Masterpiece of bird's architecture.
Noelcmn: Good composition of the frame. I like the colours.
EBirdy:Good point of view. The interior is interesting with columns and lightning but strongly backlit doors dominates too much. You should, may be, consider to slightly uderexpose the frame to obtain deeper shadows. Anyway nice try.
JensE: Good job Jens. You managed the distortion well. Very nice, warm coloured picture.
ttucker: Very nice job. I like the shadows and I think mirror ads some perspective which is very interesting. But composition of frame isn't perfect. Where is the floor? I miss it.
mattb123: Good job, I would really consider buying this property. Good frame and full of details. Great example of product photography.

As I mention above, all pictures are awesome but now I have to announce the winner.

First place: JensE

Second goes to CristianRock

And third is Slowpez

Thank you for participation and for your effort. Hope to see your pictures it this week competition. Thanks again.

Project 52 PROJECT 52-8-21 - SHAPES-Repetition

A few words at the beggining. At a glance, my "repetiton" practice is not so special. Just three patterned white plates divided by dark copper spacers...

One upon a time, in the end of 15th century, Jews were expelled for Germany, Spain, Portugal and many other countries. So they started a weeks long journey to the east. One day they decided to stay in area within the borders of today Poland. They said Polin which, in hebrew, means "Here we can rest". The second meaning of word "Polin" is just... Poland.

Hundred years later thousands and thousands of europeans of Jewish origin learnt a lesson that word "rest" has second meaning as they rest in peace in Poland forever.

Now to the clou. Look very carefuly on the pattern on white part of the picture and find a letter "p", then look for "o" and "l" then "i" and finally "n"

Polin... Here we can rest. Rest in peace forever.

This is a part of fascade of Polin, the Museum of History of Polish Jews in Warsaw.

I have to say I really didn't know what to post. There are too many lines around me so I experienced some kind of sensoric overload. Lines everywhere. Thin or bold, long versus short, curvy aside straights. Nightmare in one word.
So here it is an archtecture again. This time Sir Norman Foster's Metropolitan building in Warsaw. It's fasade to be precise. Ok, a part of it...Never mind. Hope you enjoy.:o

There is nothing special you need to create such photo like mine. All you need is a paperback book, a piece of thin rope and bike tail light. First I took a book and bent it then tied with a rope. Then, this it is important, I had to loosen pages a little bit to create thin spaces between them. When "subject" was ready I put it on a table, place a bike tail light right behind it and light it up. It is important to use really bright light source because gaps between pages of the book are really narrow. I didn'n use any additional light source to light up the front of the book I decided the ambient light of early dawn coming in through the window will be enough. I took the picture with my K-3 on a tripod in M mode and hd dfa100wr macro at minimal distance of 35cm. I decided to underexpose the frame slightly cause I know my K-3 tends to horribly overexpose bright red light sources. I took 5 or 6 frames then the ambient light become too bright. Exif data of this particular frame ar as follows: lens HD Pentax D FA 100 macro WR, f8.0, at 10sec, ISO100, M, MF. Done with 2s selftimer. Thats all. And then very slight PP using DCU5. Thats all.

Hi all,

Thank you all for your effort. I am not a pro photographer so the judgement is based on my subjective reflections. Please note that english is not my native language so it is difficult for me to translate my emotions I feel looking at your pictures.
Ok, some impressions now:

ChristianRock: The main subject of your photo is interesting. It is well placed within the frame. And made me laugh. Nice job anyway.

Eva: Well done too. I like the theme and composition. Unfortunately, due to DOF which is too deep in my opinion, the spiral element of toy, which is the main subject I presume, became dilluted in background. It is a pity because, as I mentioned, theme and composition is interesting.

Brewmaster 15: Well done. The subject is definitely spiral, clearly visible and carefully placed within the frame. I like DOF-it's just as deep as should be in my opinion. Different shades of green creates an atmosfere of dark, soaked throught forest. Well done.

Slowpez: I can't belive you gave up because your picture is pretty good. The spiral structure is well visible. Well done.

Djb47: You made a trivial plain trivet quite mysterious object. Hope you will tell us how you made it. Well done.

Noelcmn: Beautiful Eland with beautiful horns. Impressive effort.

JensE: Keep looking for and you will finally find what you are looking for. So you did. Well done.

Jcdoss: Good idea with white spiral structure and 2 black keys which suggest the structure may be tuned somehow. Well done.

And now the results:

First: Brewmaster15 and his fern.

Second goes to Slowpez

And tied for third: Djb47 and JensE (in alphabetical order)

Honourable mention to Noelcmn and his eland.

It is better to shoot them with long telephoto than Remington .303

Thank you very much for participation. My warm congratulation to the winners andall participants. On behalf of Noelcmn, I do invite you to this week edition of Project52.
