HD Pentax-FA 50mm f/1.4 and smc Pentax-FA 50mm f/1.4 Classic

It is great that they update the lens just like they did with the 35mm. Every manufacturer of fullframe cameras should have affordable 35mm and 50mm primes (and 85mm?) in their lineup. Doing it this way keeps the lens cheap and why should they invest their limited budget in developing new lens designs when there already are two great examples that can just be updated to fill that place in the lineup?

The only thing I don’t get is the classic version. It could be either that they still have shelves full of lens barrels and smc coated lenses that they need to get rid of. But why would it be more expensive if they just sell old stock? Or is there an advantage of smc coatings over the HD coating in terms of usage on film? Then it would of course make sense for the planned film SLR. Does anyone here have experience with using HD lenses on film?

Nikon F Mount and the K1/II successor...

Well I can totally see your point there. This is something I also really love about Pentax. But for the other companies creating a different mount for their mirrorless systems was a necessity. It is a matter of physics. Because of the reduced flange distance the opening had to become larger. This also allowed for lenses to be created that wouldn’t have been possible before in terms of light transmission.

Mine shows the exact same symptoms. I give it some regular exercise to keep it working properly. I didn’t know it had to do with the grease though. Always thought it was maybe a capacitor that lost charge over time.

There are some really great photographers on YouTube that bring valuable information or are just a pleasure to watch. The Northrups are not amongst them.

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned yet and did happen to me before is that you maybe have accidentally locked the card you took out. The camera (in my case K-1) didn’t tell me that one card was locked but just continued to write to only one card. I have adjusted my workflow to always check the locking slider before inserting the card back in since then.

Now this superfluous old man rant even gets highlighted in the newsletter? Can’t we just close this thread and let everyone enjoy the photography they do in their own personal way? There are no rules or laws one has to oblige in photography. There is no right or wrong. It’s a form of art and self expression. If you don’t respect that just move on and stop complaining.

Then get the 21mm. The bokeh is outstanding. I don’t own the 15-30 and never used it but I couldn’t imagine there’s any wide angle lens that comes even close to my 21mm in terms of bokeh, sharpness and especially character and three dimensionality.

Digital Photo Frames?

We live in a time where we should really think about what is necessary and what is not. I personally think that there are things that don’t need to be electrified to not waste resources and energy. Digital picture frames fall into this category of unnecessarily electrified things just like electric pepper grinders or electric soap dispensers for example. I also think having a digital frame makes the pictures more arbitrary. If you print you think about which picture to choose in which size and how you want to frame it. That makes the whole process and the end result so much more meaningful and personal.

I don’t own it myself but the 24mm F1.4 Samyang/Rokinon/Bower is highly regarded among astrophotographers.
