Astrotracer

You won’t find out what the problem is if you can’t find out. My suggestion is to try different solutions. Reset the camera first, use different lenses, use Ogps-1 or Ogps-2, shoot different deep sky objects, use higher iso or bulb times, use better tripod, use fully charged battery. When you shoot first image, K3III will do calibration around 30s and tell you how long you can shoot. But ideally 60s is best result so far. If you focus on malfunction of K3III, bring it to your dealer. Sometimes K3III works wonders sometimes it practices Murphy law. But a broken K3III is never in my head. Good luck, K3III is so far the best Pentax camera I have except no time lapse and startrail video.

yes, I think you are right. I check my old astrophoto back in 2018. It was K-1 with DA200 on 21P comet, M35, jerryfish and monkeyhead nebula. It was not a bad result. But the thing is that calibration of k-1 is a hassle if you considering using K3III astrotracer Type 3.

Yes they both move the sensor. But with K-1, you “move” the camera for calibration. With K3III you dont need to “move” the camera. Find the target and shoot the target.

Please take the road less travel. K3III is the only answer if you are interested in deep sky objects besides milky way.

I have K-1 for years. If you use telescope lenses above 200mm and shoot more than 60", the edge begins trailing obviously. If wont happen on K3III Type 3. Like I said, It is a different world.

I have been using Pentax as astrophotography camera with or without altazimuth mount for years. In the old days, K3II, K-1 with built-in astrotracer are great, but you always feel it is just a backup plan. This summer I used K3III intensively with the new version firmware and astrotracer Type 3. The result is amazing and a game changer. It makes Pentax astrophotography with astrotracer a different world. All the photos are shot with DA200mm and ISO3200,F4,60" near 20 frames and dark, flat, darkflat, bias frames. STC Clip-in filter made in Taiwan is a booster. They work great.

K-3 II focus problem

Deal all,

Good morning everyone. A newcomer to here. I have a really confusing issue after I bought K-3 II six weeks ago. I have an old A* 200mm F2.8 . It takes great image putting on my K-5IIs, but recently I found it doesn't work with K-3II. The infinite side of the image is always blurring. Here is some sample with same processing date thru cameraraw.

I can show you many more images with different lens. It has the same problems. I took my K-3II to official distributor in Taiwan. They were also confused with it.

Anyone has same problem? Your reply is appreciated.

Jeremy Chou from Taiwan
