Yes, but what do you want to bet that said solution will come in the shape of a whole new camera...NOT an upgrade for the K3-II?

FluCard not working on Windows 10 tablet

FLUCArd sucks...seems to be incompatible with AstroTracer, insisting I turn it off...which considering Jessops sold me the damn thing saying I wouldn't need a remote for Astrophotography, makes me feel a little aggrieved...

I don't know if pixel shift and Astrotracer are related...but after nine months of fighting with AstroTracer (nowhere in the manual does it say you have to SEPARATELY turn on GPS for it to work!) I just had it working for the first time...only for the FLUCard to insist I deactivate it when I try to take a picture (literally a message pops up when I click the Shutter button from the tablet saying "Deactivate Astrotracer"...

...which, considering it's what I bought it for, may mean the whole bloody lot goes back to Jessops...

My Pentax K3-ii is APS-C I believe, so...16mm lens would be best?

Getting rid of "the blob"

At F40 I could probably tell if the dust was male or female...thanks DeadJohn

Also visible on my 50mm lens, so obviously not a lens problem...

And lastly, removed completely by the simple step of turning on the self-cleaning process;

Thanks jatrax!

Question about self-clean though - I have "on startup" and "on shutdown" options. Currently turned both on. Is it safe to leave them on or does it reduce the life of the sensor?

Thanks all for help! The blob is gone!

Thanks all for the advice. The camera is the K3-II. I'll put some of the suggestions into practice and see what happens. Will report back here.

---------- Post added 03-14-16 at 01:28 AM ----------

Thanks to DeadJohn for the advice about aperture - F40 showed it up better than anything else (will post a pic later). I was also able to confirm its presence with two separate lenses.
Secondly thanks to jatrax - it was a simple as turning on the dust removal at startup and shutdown!

Fixed! Will post some pictures later but I have to get to work now.

I'm very new to DSLRs...sould someone examine the "blob" at about 10 o'clock in these two pics? Is the fact that it's more visible when focussed at infinity than nearer anyd indication of where it may be? I've cleaned the lense several times but the blob persists!

Thanks!

Astrotracer on...not that you'd think so. 55mm lens, 60s exposure, calibrated ok. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't...

Thanks all for the advice. In the end bought an original from Jessops (which is where I got the camera) for £56. Wanted to play safe as it's my first DSLR and there's a guy on Amazon who's experience with non-Pentax batteries is considerably worse than most of your stories :-(

Should I be suspicious?

Pentax D-LI90 Battery (39830) - Wex Photographic

https://www.digi-quick.co.uk/index.php/pentax-k-3-ii-replacement-camera-batt...pzcaAlM_8P8HAQ

And if so - of which one?

Can someone recommend a supplier of a reliable spare battery for my K3-II please? Obviously I'd rather not pay the £55.00 if possible, but if that's what a genuine battery costs, then so be it.

This is my first DSLR purchase, so some lack of knowledge to be expected!

However - I've noticed with the above setup using a Samsung Tablet (TabPRO) I can't change the settings (AV, ISO etc - the ones that are underlined in blue that you are supposed to be able to change remotely) using the default "Internet" browser. Image capture and preview functions seem to work fine.

What happens in the default browser is a popup list appears with all the correct values, which appears to allow me to make a selection - but then when the list closes nothing has changed.

If I use Chrome everything works ok.

Anyone else noticed this?

Ha, I wish this was DA* gear... these are old inherited lenses...all manual; a 80-200mm "Formula 5" zoom lens and an "APK Teleplus MC4" teleconverter.

As I'm doing astrophotography I've turned off the image stabilisation (which is what most seem to reommend). Are there any other side effects?

Night Orion Nebula Astrotracer

Normally I'd be in the UK but currently in Cyprus. Over Christmas we had a really bright full moon which messed things up. Convinced myself I could see Andromeda occasionally with naked eye, but the viewfinder showed nothing. Where I live in the UK light pollution will be an issue. Any exposure around 30s gives a pale blue sky rather than black. Unless I want to drive at least a couple of hours, might need to invest in a pollution filter, but my aiming laser is first on the list...

Think I just need better stars :-). First target was Andromeda and the stars around it are very dim...going to get a 5mw green laser pointer and mount it to the hotshoe. I'm told the beam quite visible. Hope so, cos the cheap red ones I bought were almost hopeless.

Yes, if it's as bright as they say, I may have the odd Jedi fantasy...I'll be in a dark field where no one can see after all!

Hmm, I can usually see very little in viewfinder. Targetting on a single star with a pretty high zoom sounds challenging...how is your camera mounted?

Not relevant to this thread but related to it; when I type "200mm lens" or "300mm lens" the forum formats them as links to an adorama webpage. Is this a forum setting or have I picked up some adware somewhere?

Hope questions about built-in Astrotracer on the K3-II are allowed...

Using the stock 18-55 that came with the camera. Getting noticeable trails over 15s exposures when filming Andromeda. Elevation quite high. Does anyone know if setting camera "portrait" instead of "landscape" will improve or worsen?

Someone indicated a ball mount is a problem...why? Yes I'm very new...

Should I still polar align? I love the way I said that as if I know what it means...!

I read that the external unit has advanced compass functions. Anyone know if the built-in unit has the same? Still trawling through my camera manual...

Edit...more q's

Lenses...Someone mentioned DA*? Won't astrotracer work with others?

How well does it work with longer lenses? I inherited a 200mm lens but it's old and need to set to use f-stop ring.

My Pentax K3-II, that is! Hoping to get into Astrophotography, maybe some landscapes too. Right now I know practically zero, so please be kind if I ask what an acronym means, or other technical words like "exposure" or "camera".

I'm only half - joking, toyed with setting up my account as "Althgebunoid" (All the gear but no idea)...but it was too much to type.
