I have found the 16-85 to have superb image quality, sharpness and autofocus. It also is weather-sealed. If you don't mind a little extra weight, you get a very high quality lens at a very reasonable price.

The type of photography you say you usually do (street, architecture, landscape, outdoors) is what I prefer to do. I find that the lens I use most often is the 21mm ltd., which is very small, light and provides exceptional image quality. It is equivalent to a 32mm lens on full-frame (which is close to the normal 35mm view). It is still wide enough for great architecture and landscape shots but "normal" enough for street and closer shots. I suggest that, after using your zoom lens, go back and look at the EXIF information for your photos. See what specific focal length you used most often. That's how I realized so many of the photos I took with with a zoom lens tended to be in the 20 - 24mm APS-C focal range, and led me to pick the 21mm prime. I doubt that you would use a tripod very often for the types of photos you describe.

Here are a couple of shots I took when testing out the KP after it arrived. The clock picture is an unedited JPEG taken with the HD 35mm 2.8 Macro Limited, at 12,800 ISO! (f/4.5, 1/60).
The colored block wall is a JPEG that I cropped and did a one-click "enhancement" on Windows Photo, taken with the SMC DA 50mm 1.8, ISO 100, f/3.5, 1/200.
This is a very good camera even for an amateur like me.

I've been getting great results - really sharp - with the 16-85 (as good as the 21mm prime). I've gotten great results indoors, at museums, etc., even though the lens isn't that wide. When I travel, I also take a wider, small prime (35 or 50) for evening shots or when I don't feel like carrying the heavier zoom.

I was hiking in Vietnam and passed through this shrimp and banana farm on a beautiful clear day. Taken with a K-50, Pentax 21mm lens, no enhancement.

This scarf vendor in the main market in Luang Prabang, Laos, had the kindest expression on her face as people walked by. I had to take this picture of her, sitting on a tiny stool, rubbish all around, yet radiating kindness and happiness.
