Here's my advice for those of us who live in cities, towns, and enjoy taking candid or semi-candid 'streeters': First pick a bright overcast day; second, set a fairly fast ISO, like 800-1250, although anything above 400 ISO will do the trick. Third, remember to set your wide angle (10-17mm zoom, 24mm, or 28mm prime) lens to manual (you don't want the whirrr of a motor to give you away [besides they're not necessary], set your Pentax camera body to MF ("manual focus") and last, prefocus the lens to infinity. Shoot like mad; unlike the film days when I did this with a manual body, 400 ISO Tri-X black-and-white film and my trusty 24mm f/2.0 (Canon FD) lens, film is no longer a limiting factor. Busy streets are the best; and be sure to let yourself go; edit the results when you get home.

I bought myself a used Tamron Adaptall SP 90mm f/2.5. It looks like it's been through the wars a bit (there's a small visible scratch on the element closest to the body, although I don't see it in any photos yet). But it cost Santa (me) only $115 Canadian, which is currently $83 bucks. Nice contrast, great bokeh, and having a 1:2 macro is a lot of fun. Some extension tubes are next...

I was a longtime Canon film user, who switched to Pentax digital about 15 years ago -- my collection of rendered-useless, incompatible Canon lenses is what saw me abandon them. So naturally I became a diehard Pentax user, attracted by their legacy lenses. I began with a shortlived K100D (since passed on to my wife) and a K10D, which still suits my purposes. I've also managed to amass a small collection of lenses (10-17mm, 50 f1.4, Tokina 35-70 f2.8, 300 f4, 18-55 kit, Sigma 70-300 macro, 40mm f2.8, and soon a 90mm Tamron macro f2.8). In general, I prefer to shoot people (& cats) and portraits over landscapes, but 'streeters' are my absolute favorite.
