Could it be the onset of the dreaded aperture block problem??

This is more than disheartening since I was even given a price range for a preorder. Pentax could have a good thing going with the K-1, but not if clerks at retail don't show it.

Well the lens system is amazing and legacy lenses are so inexpensive that I gave myself a $250 budget for now. Here is what I got:
- A Pentax 50mm 1.8 prime (everyone should have a nice prime...) About $100
- A used Tamron 18mm - 250mm f4.5 - f5.6 (I think..) About $75
- A used Pentax (FA) 80mm - 200mm f4.5 - f5.6 About $30
- A used Tokina 100mm - 300mm f5.6 - f6.3 about $35
- Finally A Pentax 35mm - 80mm cost ma $20
I do lots of nature photography hence the long zooms, and I do street photography with the kit lens. In the future I will add a wide zoom, and another wr lens perhaps the 50-200mm. All I know is there are so many legacy lenses to choose from. Some are good. Others not so good however I am having fun with my new kit. Thank-you Pentax!

My only concern is whether mounting the flash on the camera will somehow hurt the camera...

I didn't necessarily believe the price point myself.... but that is what the sales guy said they "expected". They are a pretty reputable store. Even if the store is off by 25% the K-1 is a super deal!!! Let's face facts.... Ricoh is a bigger and richer company than any company that has owned Pentax before and R&D from what I can see is not being spared. There are new products coming out on a regular basis and recent products show excellent engineering. Heck I dumped a thousand dollars of Nikon stuff for my K-50.
The K-1 is a huge step forward for Pentax at any price under $1,500 USD, and since it looks like the camera will be under that price point, the K-1 may just be the big step forward we are all looking for.

Actually my intent was to show that the K-1 is here!! BTW expected retail pricing according to the store may be around $1,299 CAD which would equal $999 USD. I found that out yesterday.

I am looking to purchase an inexpensive used flash on ebay. There are several TTL flashes for Pentax with makes such as Promaster, Vivitar, and Bower. If these flashes come out of the film era, will thay still work on my K-50 DSLR< or will mounting them hurt my camera?

I purchased this lens on Ebay. The listing said it was for Pentax K mount and that it was an AF lens.
The problem is that it has a large flange on the mount unlike my other lenses. My instincts tell me not to mount it on the camera. Are my instincts correct. See image of the mount below......

I am happy that my post started such a lively and amusing debate. Just a clarification.... I would NEVER do it. The camera store maintains that the Full Frame Pentax K-1 will be out in late April. This is one of Montreal's oldest and most respected camera stores. We shall see if the K-1 is out in April and if the specs they tout are true........ Meanwhile I will invest my money in some good ol' Pentax glass for my k-50.. ---------- Post added 01-01-16 at 04:57 PM ----------
Their prices are in Canadian dollars, so deduct 30%!

I'm coming from a Nikon 5200 and so far I am pretty satisfied with my Pentax K50 in bright light, but I wasn't too happy indoors. My K-50 seemed to hunt too much, and the auto focus speed was not what I was used to. But I bought myself a good external flash. Now the camera doesn't hunt in low light, and for some reason, the auto focus seems way faster. Does this make sense to anyone?

Just banged off my first 200 pics. Wow! What a difference. This camera has a soul. I shot Christmas lights in my neighborhood and each picture was worth a thousand words. I am also very impressed from what I see so far from this community. It certainly rocks! Thanks for the warm welcome. Hope you'll be hearing from me a lot in the future.

I rented a K-50 and fell in love!!! I dumped my Nikon 5200 and a wide selection of lenses. I have shot Nikon all of my life, starting with a Nikormat in 1970, but now I am the happiest new Pentaxian around. So I just thought I would say that there are still those of us who do come over from the dark side. Merry Christmas!
