I bought a mofo card and lost it before I tried it so it never worked
but then they dropped support for it so I never bothered looking for it

what scope do you have ?
Some reflectors do not have the focal length to let you focus an image with such a short adapter.Also other adapters allow you to mount the eye piece into the tube so that you can change the magnification.
Look at
TELESCOPE CAMERA ADAPTERS |TelescopeAdapters.com
they are more expensive but I believe that you get a much more flexible solution.
not affiliated but I can vouch for the fact that they do make quality stuff that fits nicely.

I have one on my K-7 and it is great - crystal clear and does enhance the view area and helps with manual focus.
I also take my glasses off and although my diopter adjustment is not at the limit it is still very helpful.
I think it has been covered elsewhere but given the pronounced profile it helps avoiding getting imprints from your nose all over the lcd screen.
I think that the price is well worth the investment - although this is only IMHO
I can only say that my only negative is that my other cameras do not have one and I am always forgetting this and get frustrated by the small view area before I remember why :)

Great to know that the surgery has worked - hope it stays in remission.
I was wondering about this in case my K-30 ever needs it - although it appears from the survey here that the leading cause is lack of use (uppity things those K-30s) so i just make sure I take at least one pic each day - a picture a day keeps the doctor away sort of thing !

Hi,
I would say that the pattern you are seeing is just the jpeg engine rendering in layers of detail. jpgs are based on discrete cosine transforms and as they are decoded they are added in layers to avoid large pauses prior to rendering. This happens a lot on my K7 - I thought it was just because the K7 engine was slow (albeit 14Mpixels) but I don't have a K3 to compare. My nikon D3200 does the same as it also has a 24Mp sensor.
Used to be a common term in imagine processing LOD (Level of Detail) used back for processing of muti-resolution images but as most of these things are hardware based and multi-core cpus have exploded in throughput the term seems to have died away a bit.
always willing to be wrong though.

Hi,
It won't fix your actual question but you could also try an Hoya intensifier filter.
I am sure that people have pros and cons about such things but it is a cheap way to reduce some of that yellow/pinky background haze from city lights and to see the stars more clearly.

Hi,
there is a site pentaxcamerarepair.com - in pine grove CA that offers a $100 modification that they say fixes the problem. I have never used them but it seems like a reasonable idea.
Anyone have any experience with these guys. Just for future reference as I have a K-30 and am dreading it not working one day.

I think that the missing 10mm (sic) identified by "Not a Number" could be an issue.
Any chance you can reverse mount it and use it as a macro ?

Not sure how confident you feel about this.
But - when Nikon came out with the D600 it really sucked due to oil and dust on the sensor. Why is this relevant you ask ?
If you google how to clean nikon D600 sensor there are loads of videos of people showing how to (and how not to) clean a sensor. Seems it was quite the thing to do to convince yourself you hadn't wasted thousand s of $$$ on your new nikon toy.
Watching them might give you some background on how to go about this.

On the note of K3III prices
How come the pentax site lists the K3II at $849 but Adorama and B&H sell them for $996 - what are they throwing in to justify the higher price.
Anyone ever bought one from the pentax site ? Who would willingly pay $150 more for the same camera

Taste is often an acquired sense. Most of the internet postings are probably from a younger audience who have yet to acquire a true sense of art. Although beauty in the eye of the beholder (sigh!)
Ask many of them if they prefer a Stabat Mater by Pergolesi or the most recent clap trap forced down their throats - then ask them again in 40 years or so.
Although I think I know what I like and hopefully it is tasteful - just can't get my pictures to look anything like the ones I like :)
That said PF should have a crap picture competition running alongside its monthly one (of which almost all of the entries are quite stunning). I might actually stand a chance of winning one of those :D

i would take a look at the power2000 at Adorama.
I have been using them in the K-7 and the K-30 and they seems pretty good so far - hold charge nicely. Can't speak long term though as i haven't had them long enough.

I would also look at the prices of the ebay seller uriroptics. They seems to specialize in filters for thispurpose. they come with lost of graphs detailing filter combos etc. and the prices are pretty competitive.
I have tried this but never got much except really bright images - hey Hawaiian what PP did you apply to get those images

I have had SSD drives go out on me. No drive is infallible. I have a asustor NAS (1004T - (cheap & cheerful but does the job for light loads) configured as a raid1 with two 3TB drives as mirrors in case one goes out. More than enough for now but the unit is a 4 drive unit. With a 1Gbps lan you shouldn't still get nice throughput unless you really pound it). They also offer online offsite backup for a monthly fee (I thnk - don't use it myself).
I just recently has a raid0 ssd pair (striped for performance) on a linux server go out and it is a nightmare as recovery is not an option. Need a good backup schedule - to backup storage. Don't do that use raid 5 or raid10.
I would recommend that you use your main rive for fast local access during processing and your main storage is a raid1 NAS for the added security against failure. Also they come with lots of nice apps and remote access etc. if you are of a technical inclination.
WD 3TB (7200) drives can be had for about $75 or so if you check with vendors on pricewatch of newegg. Install is easy also.

Hmm,
I'm not much of a photographer but I do have an electronics background.
That is interesting. Try a new card and see if it repeats (I think that it might). Originally I thought that it would be odd for a card issue as it seems that the error would be offset by and exact row length + some number of bytes but if you zoom right in it looks like small horizontal segments but there is a degree of smoothing happening. Do you have the raw files ? I would have thought a bad card would produce blocks where bad ram was and not such a linear pattern but the jpeg smoothing around the segments might suggest that it is happening in the sensor -> compression engine part of the camera.
It could be bad/exhausted batteries causing the compression engine or timing logic/AtoD converters/smoothing circuits etc. to glitch.
Raw wouldn't be subject to digital/electrical (only the bayer/AA filters which are optical and wouldn't move the line) compression smoothing/artefacts so if the raw file has it then it isn't the compression engine so it might be the sensor.
As for the shutter it is an interesting idea but for the line to go smoothly across the image in a diagonal line ?? I was not aware that shutters produce smooth diagonal artefacts (I would be interested in understanding how though). I thought that shutters moved vertically. I guess a trapped hair or damaged/skewed blade (mechanism) could cause this but the OP mentions that the line is not always in the same place. Are they always straight lines? Maybe a few raw images could show that the segments are the same length ? I am not sure that a failing sensor would move the line. Looks like a timing/amp circuit issue which could be a failing component (overheating) or bad power causing circuit instability.
Does it still happen at different ISO values and/or EV settings as these would modify the signal sensitivity circuitry. You mentioned that it was during bracketing, don't use bracketing much but this would modify the sensitivity of the sensor. Do you get the same line if you disable bracketing and repeat the same pictures at the same exposure settings as used by the bracketing?

Hi,
Pliobond is reasonably good at sticking rubber to metal - lather it on quite generously though and make sure both surfaces are clean/grease free. You can order a tub at Ace harware on line. I used it to fix a loose rubber grip on a metal body and it should be safe.
Else, cut the rest of the grip and use 3M 300LSE which is one of those super thin double sided sticky sheets(I think nikon use it to stick rubber grips to bodies) and it is a bit expensive. I got mine at soles2dance.com, the good thing is they send a really informative application sheet !!
no affiliation to any of the sites mentioned - just passing on my experiences - if anyone can get the 3M stuff cheaper pass it on :)
