You're right! Auto-set the gain isn't working, but manually it does. Thanks! The mic now functions as expected

It doesn't work, sadly. So everyone knows. Nothing changes, still no sound. EDIT: I was mistaken, see below |

Hello! I just treated myself with the K3-III. I wanted it, but had a hard time justifying the pricetag for it. Well, after a year or so thinking about it, I finally bought one.
But little did I know it was somewhat of a rare occurence: it's the silver premium kit, with the leather strap and the silver battery grip. Only 1.000 units were sold worldwide according to Pentax. It was just there, sitting in my local photo store since day 1... waiting for me probably.
I just wanted to share that story! It's a beautiful object.

I don't believe it's possible without welding the new cables, and I won't do that as it's a professionnal equipment that I need to be able to use with a smartphone. That's why the adaptor would be a solution, otherwise I won't use a microphone (for now) if I ever do video with the K3-III.
Thank you, but it still is a 3kOhms and 2.7v microphone, if the Rode SC3 is just an adaptor with wiring, won't it mean that it still needs 2.7v and 3kOhms? As I've read on this forum that Pentax DSLRs are meant for maximum 2.2v and 2kOhms. But maybe only using 2 channels instead of 3 makes it somehow okay?

Hi,
I've just offered myself a K3 III - as an upgrade from my K50. Seems nice so far, but I do have a question I cannot seem to find the answer. It's about video.
I also own a Rode Smartlav+ microphone through my work (journalist), that I use as my main microphone for shooting videos with a smartphone (nowadays I not only have to write stuff for the paper and the web, but also take pictures and shoot videos, if you must know).
But, here's the problem: that Smartlav+ is TRRS (2.7v - 3kOhms typical), so it's not compatible with the builtin line-in microphone. When plugged in, it produces no sound whatsoever. I've seen online You Tube |
src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/P7hFe0ihe20?controls=1" allowfullscreen> |
that Rode also sells TRRS to TRS converters, for 15$. Now, I don't know much about audio, so do any of you know if using said adaptor (Rode SC3 TRRS to TRS) would allow me to capture sounds using the Smartlav+ plugged into the Pentax K3 III?
If yes, that's great news. If no, I can shoot with my smartphone or even capture the sound with the smartphone and use the Pentax K3 III for the video in my interviews. That's no big deal, but I was wondering.
Thanks!

Thank all for the comments, I searched but couldnt find "sigma stopped K-mount" anywhere so I thought I'd post it.
In the meantime I recieved a used copy of the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 and I'm amazed at how good it is, I've used it a few hours today, both inside and outside. The AF works okay for me, even though it's slow and sometimes misses the target, but not because there seem to be something wierd with the lense, more like it focused something else than the main subject. It doesn't seem to be very much worse than the 18-135mm F2.8-4.5 WR included with my K50 back when I bought it, and I'm beyond happy with the results of my new lens :)

Thanks for the links, but I bought a used lens from Italy just after finding that out. I believe since Brexit if I buy something from the UK I have to pay VAT, which is substancial (shipping + 20€ import taxe+ 21% of the total incl. the price of the lens), sadly, although I'm not sure of that. ---------- Post added 03-13-23 at 07:42 AM ----------
I read all that, but thank you for sharing (it would have been helpful had I not already read that!).
But I'm already using manual focus with my 50mm 1.7, so having the option - even manual focus only - to switch to a 18-35mm F1.8 is a must have for interior pictures, with the aps-c sensor the 50mm is really narrow and makes me have to get far away from my target. I'm willing to take those risks anyway. I'll see.
It isn't the topic but do you know if using that lens in k-mount with an adaptor (for example on a Canon camera) would fix the issue? Or if it's the lens itself that is bad and using a different camera wont change that.

So, I was looking for a K-mount Sigma Art 18-35mm F1.8, in Europe, and couldn't find anywhere to buy it new, after years of having it in my wishlist (and seeing it being sold here and there). Even the Sigma website doesn't offer a K-mount option anymore, but the lens still exists for Sony/Canon/Nikon. So I emailed Sigma Benelux (belgium, netherlands, luxemburg) for information about that lens and maybe a timeframe regarding production, or something.
I just got an answer : "Unfortunately, Sigma no longer produces lenses for Pentax cameras. We did indeed have the 18-35mm, but it has been out of stock for a long time."
I don't know if it is official or not, but there you have it if you're wondering, like me, what happened to some lenses.

Thank you all for the advices. Using another lens did show that it was the sensor.
I tried blowing the dust and it did indeed remove some of it. But other appeared, it seems it has a lot of dust in the body, and blowing it only "moved" the dust around. And some 'fuzzy spots' wouldn't go away at all, I'd bet it's some kind of droplet that got on there too.
So right now it's at some local photography shop for a full clean-up. I know, I know, it's supposed to be easy but I don't have the time or patience to order the kit, try to clean it myself, fail, retry it, until finally getting it right :) So it'll cost me (around 50€, so that's like 56$), but I don't have to do it myself.
I'll try setting the dust-cleaner-on-startup thing when I get my K50 back too.

Hi,
I have a problem with my 18-135mm, it seems scrateched. If I go higher than F8, those scratches are showing up everywhere. Here's an example at F30.
Have you seen this before? It looks like scratches, but maybe you can help locate it? Rear/front lenses? Maybe also tell me if I can hope remove the issue or if I'm now stuck at < F8.

#14 has that feeling of immensity and being small in a world larger and more treathening than you can imagine. It got my vote... I think, because it said "you already voted", even if I did not.
