I still like my old Sunpak Auto322 from my days of film work in my Pentax MX. But now that I found high trigger voltage could fry my just bought K20D, I checked the voltage at the hotshoe contacts and got a range of 175 to 179 volts. So now I'll only use the old 322 via the PC port on a flash bracket. But given the advances of wireless tech I'll upgrade to new tech that allows me to remote fire a new flash off the camera if i want.

I have a Sunpak Auto322 flash from my film days on my Pentax MX, that I have used a few times on my recently bought K20D. Now after some research I learn that my trusty 322 could fry the K20D through the hotshoe. So if I use a flash bracket and the cable from 322 into the PC port on the K20D am I also endangering the K20D?
That or I get voltage protector for the flash so it can't backfeed high voltage into the hotshoe. ---------- Post added 12-28-15 at 10:42 PM ----------
I just checked the voltage output at the hotshoe mount on my Sunpak Auto322, and I get 175v to 179v. At first I thought that would be only when the flash fires, but that value is present whenever the flash is on. So,...no more 322 on my K20D.

Hi from Green Bay. After many years of absence from photography other than a Casio pocket camera, and the occasional roll of film in my early 80s vintage Pentax MX, I have gotten my finger on the DSLR shutter of a Pentax K20D. Wow, is this camera cool! And it uses all my old lenses back to my fast 1:1.2 50mm Pentax lense, and gives me image shake reduction too yet! But that means I also slid my Sunpak Auto322 flash onto the hot shoe and found it fired right off.
Now I come to find out the 322 is one of the old flashes with the highest flash voltage into the hotshoe! So I need to find an alternate way to use my 322. I think it is safe (safer) to use the 322 flash cord into the PC port on the K20D, but I need to research that further. Shutter on!!
