First, thank you guys so much for the help! It's great learning from folks who've done these types of trips before.
Ahhh, how necessary is the weather sealing? I'm just not ready to put down another $200 for a lens. I think the weather sealing would be the only advantage of having the 18-135; I don't mind carrying around another lens and I don't think I'll need the short telephoto range much at all.
I actually found this - https://www.outdoorphotogear.com/op-tech-rainsleeve-set-of-2/ Any experience with something like it?
Oh, didn't even think about that! Yeah, so we're planning on couchsurfing and hostels for the most part, but I'm bring a few padlocks to secure zippers or just putting stuff in lockers. I'm not too worried about it. The only valuables I'll have with me are my phone, passport, camera, and ipad. I do have 1 spare battery
Great idea, I'll look into an adapter

Yeah, I was strongly considering a 18-135 when looking for a wide angle, but I didn't think the 130-range was enough for wildlife, while I loved the 50mm for general purpose, walking around. What can I shoot between 50-135? But it does seem extremely light and small, though..
But I do agree with you, I need to limit the stuff to bring; the backpack's already going to be filled with stinky sweaty clothes especially in that heat.

Hey everyone,
Amateur here, leaving for Asia in a few weeks and looking for advice on what to bring. Going to be in China for 3 weeks, then onto HK, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, then Japan and Korea. I'm backpacking with some buddies, meaning just a camera bag and a backpack full of clothes.
Bringing for sure:
-K-50
-50mm DA f/1.8
-10-20mm Sigma f/4-5.6 (just bought it today, very excited)
-2TB HD, a couple SD cards, remote shutter, ND filters for the 10-20mm
-Manfrotto mini tripod
Deciding between:
-75-300mm Sigma DL Zoom f/4-5.6 (really chunky, but love the shots I've taken with it)
-28mm Pentax-K f/3.5 (love this thing, but a bit heavy)
-Hotshoe flash (pretty heavy as well)
or.. buy a 18-200, 18-250, or 18-135? I'm just not sure how often I'd go tele on this trip. Not looking to shoot wildlife, but I know I'd miss out not having a >200mm handy if there's the occasional panda strolling through the woods in Sichuan
Looking to do some street stuff and night shots with the 50mm, and lots of interiors/landscapes/architecture with the 10-20mm
Any advice would be much appreciated!

Sorry for digging this up.. but my newly bought K50 has a similar problem. Comes and goes, focuses only in LV but not via the viewfinder. Cleaned out contacts and messed around with the mirror slider thing helped it correct itself. Any way to prevent this from happening again? Not really a huge deal, just an annoyance I suppose.

Yeah, I was thinking the 18-55 may be the best.. Is there such a drastic difference between the 28mm and the 18mm? I also understand that the sharpness/quality of the 18-55mm wouldn't be the best at extremes (18 or 55).. is that correct?

Yeah, I might get it if it's a good price. Let me know if you'll be selling it.
Any other recommendations? I'm not afraid of old manual focus, manual aperture lenses.

Awesome! On the look out for this. Thanks for the heads up - scrolling around in the non-Pentax lens section is a pain
Yeah, if I don't find a good options, I'll probably go with the 18-55
Thanks for the heads up on the 16-45. I'll definitely be on the lookout for this as well! It's a bit pricey new, but hopefully there are a few used ones for around/under 100

Hey guys,
Gotta give it to you guys, this is probably the best organized site I've seen. So much information, so many people, and generally amazing community.. Been lurking for about 2 months now deciding to move on from an old Canon 300D to a Pentax K50.
Long story short, made the jump and here are the lenses I bought (HUGE THANK YOU to the lens reviewers!):
- SMC K 28mm f/3.5
- SMC DA 50mm f/1.8
- Sigma DL Zoom 75-300mm f/4-5.6
Love them all thus far! I consider myself an amateur and have no money to spend beyond 100 bucks since I'm a poor med student. I'd like a more versatile lens than the 28mm or 50mm, so I'm curious what your thoughts are on wide angle zooms. I was very close to buying the SMC 18-55mm DA kit lens, but didn't go for it because of the poor(ish) reviews. Any non-Pentax ones worth it? Or are non of them really worth it since I've covered basically all focal lengths?
Thanks in advance
