New K-01 mirrorless camera coming

Hi, I'm Spanish and I'm surprised about the "visor a nivel del ojo", because "visor" means viewfinder and there is no need to add "a nivel del ojo" (eye level). Maybe this was also a translation from another language or means it will come with a non eye-level viewfinder, i.e. a waist level viewfinder.
Sadly, if none of the above is correct but the rumor is true I think it simply means there won't be any kind of viewfinder. I hope I am wrong, though.

It looks cool but for those with some optics knowledge...

Is there a noticeable differece (in terms of DOF) between 8.5 f1.9 and the above zoom at 8.5 f4?

Faulty DA 15mm Limited?

Thanks for the replies!

I normally use AF with this (and other) lens. The problem is that I noticed that the photos taken with this lens were way softer than other photos taken with the rest of my wide angles DA 12-24, DA* 16-50 at 16mm and the DA 21 Limited that I sold to acquire the DA15mm. The typical city views like the one I posted, that have a background and a foreground were quite blurry when I auto-focused to the background.
When I shot something near, the pics are normally sharp, just a tad less sharp than my DA 12-24, but nothing to worry about.
If I had not the problem with AF on I would probably not noticed it.

I think I will send the lens to be serviced or exchanged for a better copy.:hmm:

Regards.
Turo.

Faulty DA 15mm Limited?

Hi,

I bought recently the highly regarded DA 15 limited, but I think that it is optically faulty. :(
The problem is that when it is manually focused to infinity the photo is soft across the frame (specially at f4.0). If I manually focus to 2 meters the centre of the photo (the background) is much sharper, but on the other hand the borders and corners seem softer when they should be sharper.
Even when I get a sharp photo, if I compare it with another taken with my DA 12-24, the latter seems to be sharper at all f-stops (I expected both to be of the same quality).

What do you think? Should I send the lens to be serviced?

I attach some crops. Thanks!

Rescaled photo.

Pentax and Full Frame...

Likely in 2011, but only if they sell many, many K-5 and K-r, and Canikon launches cheaper (less than 2000) FF bodies.

I think Pentax most likely would develop a FF body way smaller than the competition, no bigger than K20d.

We'll see.

PMA Australia speaks of a 21MP Pentax!

I don't know if this is too off topic or if I'm drawing too many conclusions, but...
Samyang 14mm
I don't know if anyone has already noticed this, but in the Samyang lens specs charts they give a FF FOV equivalence for Canon, Nikon, Sony and Pentax mount, for 4/3 and NX they don`t obviously.
This leads me to think the following:
a) They don't know that Pentax doesn't have in production any FF or film camera.
b) They know they will have one.
c) It's a mistake!
What do you think?

Interview with Hiroshi Onoda. Manager of Pentax Europe.

I think that the whole interview refers to DSRL.

With consumer products I think he is not talking about DSRL or P&S, but about the quality of the whole line of products.

If I understand the interview correctly I think it is safe to assume that there will be at least two new models this year that won't be the successors of the existing models.
I think that there are three possibilities for the new cameras: one below the K-x, one between the K-x and the K-7 and one above the K-7. In my opinion, one of them could be the rumored K-5 and the other could be the professional camera above the K-7 (FF, I hope).
I donīt think there should be a camera below the K-x, although with Pentax you never know...

The professional camera seems also linked with their experience with the 645D, as they want to gather information from the pros in order to launch a professional APSC or FF camera.

I also believe that Samsungian would be the first to buy a professional camera made by Pentax! :p

I think this interview has not been posted in the forum already.

Original (in Spanish, April 15th)

www.pentaxeros.com - Interview with Hiroshi Onoda

English translation with Babelfish

To summarize:

- The priority for Pentax right now is to complete the existing DSRL range as soon as possible.
- This year there will be updates of existing cameras, and some completely new models.
- There will be a professional camera above the K-7, but he cannot say when will be announced.
- When asked about when will be distributed the 645D worlwide, he says that they want to gather some experience in Japan before taking further steps.

By the way, HOLE is Hoya...:D

I think this info is pretty reliable.

The source is not photorumors.com, but quesabesde.com, that is a well known website here in Spain that normally doesn't publish rumors.
If you read their report, or the google translation, you will see that they know about the 645D because they asked Reflecta, that is the official Pentax importer in Spain.

They also said that professionals will have the chance to try the camera at their showroom after the summer.

AF in DA 12-24mm. Is this normal?

I have attached to the lens a B+W UV filter, but I have tried focusing without the filter and the result is the same.

Creampuff, so you do think that is normal that the body hunts a lot when focuses to infinity in daylight?
AF works fine in my DA 21 and 40 Ltd. my FA 50 1.4 and my DA* 16-50... but who knows.
I prefer to keep the lens as sending it to be serviced is time consuming and the pictures it produces are simply stunning.

I will try the lens in other camera if I have the chance.

Thanks to all for your help.

AF in DA 12-24mm. Is this normal?

Hello.

My DA 12-24 jarrived just 2 days ago and I went to take some landscape shoots to try it.
I found that this lens is very sharp, even at f4, so I'm very happy in this respect.

But the problem I see is with its AF. It hunts a lot, even in a perfectly strong mid-morning light it can take two-three seconds or more in find a focus, specially when I try to focus to infinity or to an object farther than 4 or 5 meters away. I have a K10d, three DA, one FA and a DA*, and none of them seems to have an AF that performs that bad. :(

Anyone has a similar experience? Is this normal or should I return the lens as soon as possible?

Thanks in advance.
Turo.

Sigma 12-24mm?
Posted By Turo

Hello,

I will travel to Guangzhou in two weeks and I'm going to buy there a much needed wide angle lens for my k10d.
I have read a lot of reviews of the Pentax 12-24mm, the old Sigma 10-20mm and some of the new one (for Nikon mount).
I will use it for architectural photography (exterior and interiors) and I want to avoid difficult to correct distortions, so I think I should skip the old Sigma. About the new one there is not a lot of info already but it seems that it doesn't shine at the widest focal length and I donīt know if the distortion is easier to correct and if it will be available in two weeks in Guangzhou (unlikely).
So, I think that my best bet is the Pentax or the old Sigma 12-24mm, but I don't see often people posting about this lens.
I know it is quite expensive, but I have to priorize quality and I'm aware that it would work in a hypotetical FF Pentax model (not that I really expect one!!! :p ).
So, I would to hear opinions of my fellows to decide if the Sigma lens is a alternative I should consider or if it is better to buy the Pentax zoom.

Thanks in advance.
Turo

PD: If someone can point me to a reliable shop in Guangzhou It would be also nice...;)

K7 composition adjustment = slight shift effect?
Posted By Turo
Replies: 23

If you move the sensor , you are making the same relative movement of a shifted shift lens. I think that you would get a similar shift effect.
The problem is that a shift lens normally can shift up to 11mm and the shift movement of the sensor only 1 to 3 mm.
So if the portion if the image you can capture with the lens and the sensor is proportional I think that you would get the same effect as if you shift a shift lens 1 to 3mm. A little shift effect I think.

Anyway we should wait and see how is designed this movement as I think this is a quite special feature, but they don't want to talk a lot about it... maybe because it is something new they don't have experienced and they want to know how this works.

Ricardo are you sure the shift movement is up to 3mm? I heard this was only 1mm. 3 would be much better...

Are These New Photos of K-7 Real ?

That's really interesting.
The Pentax K28/3.5 Shift lens can shift up to 11mm, so if the sensor can only be moved a few mm the correction made is not going to be spectacular...but maybe if they implement this patent is possible that the in camera processor can correct further distortions.

Is all this a possibility?

Well, I think 1/8000 shutter or 1/250 flash sync is nothing special...as all the DSRL brands include them in any of their models...:ugh:

On the other hand, maybe for you a sensor that can be shifted is a weird new feature of questionable utility, but for me this could be an incredible feature as can be used by lanscape, architectural and product photographers as they would use a Shift lens...
Many pros would buy a camera with this feature instead of a Canon 5D with all their T/S lenses...

But this obviusly depends on anyone interests, I think.

Where is the big surprise? :p
These specs can be found in any other camera manufacturer...

May be they are using the old FA77 because you need a FF lens to use the new feature, a sensor that can be shifted...;)
(may be I am expecting too much)

As far as I know, TS lenses ares possible because they use bigger elements in order to provide an image circle which you can move so it always cover the sensor. I think many of these lenses are MF lenses adaped to DSRL bayonets.
If the K-7 sensor really can be shifted/tilted, I think they also have to produce a new line of lenses with a bigger image circle, maybe FF image circle, because with most existing DA lenses this spec wouldn't be useful at all.
Please correct me if Iīm wrong.

Anyway, if this turns to be true, I would be the first in the shop to buy the new camera, as it could be a revolution not only to landscape photographers but to architectural photographers as me as well.
