K3 Firmware upgrade problems Help Please

Hi I have just bought a K3 firmware 1.11 and am trying to update the firmware to 1.21
Formatted via the camera the new SDHC card and downloaded the update into the DCIM directory on the SD card. There is nothing else on the card.
The battery is fully charged
The directions then state that once the card is inserted into slot 1, turn the camera on whilst holding down the menu button. This should bring up "Updates the camera firmware" appears in the LCD monitor.
Ver: 1.00/1.01/1.02/1.03 /1.10 / 1.11/1.20?1.21 will be displayed.
This does not happen - it is the standard menu screen that appears
I would be grateful if anyone can help me with this issue

Hi, The feed back is really appreciated and I will be looking at my options based on those comments. Whilst I had taken a fancy to the 85mm I had not made up my mind by any means. It is easy to be carried away by good reports and especially if good photos are shown as well, that's why I like to use forums like this. Not only do you get individuals perspectives and advice, but can also get a feel for any theme that emerges from the many comments. I will get back once I have thought things out.

Hi, I would be grateful for comments and advice as to the following:-
I am looking for a lens specifically for taking photos of
Children and family.
98% of the time it will be indoors and predominately it will be 1 or 2, and on occasion up to 4 people.
I understand from what I have read and picked up from different reviews, web sites and forums that a fixed lens would be best and the following have been cited as being good for this work.

35mm

50mm - Whilst many reviews have stated that this size is good for this work I note from the comments of a number of people on one forum site (not this one but a general photographic site) that this is only a general lens and not really a contender against others.

75mm - all the lenses I have seen at this size are priced way out of my league.

85mm - This size appears to have particularly good reviews for this type of work.
There is one that has caught my eye in and was reviewed within this forum in December 2015. The review of the tester and owners were very good. Unfortunately whilst it identifies average cost of the lens it does not identify the make or where one can buy it. I note that Pentax do not have a fixed 85mm so I would be looking at 3rd party
It is the SMC Pentax-M 85mm F2
Production years 1977 - 1984

I note that there is a comment that this lens was succeeded by a faster versions in the A and FA series.
The only 85mm lens I have so far seen for Pentax that are not expensive are from Samyang and one sold by walimex pro.

My camera is the K3 with the following lens 16-85mm and 55-300mm

Thank you - I have decided to go for that combination. I am still looking for advice as to a good lens for indoor portrait work 98% will be indoors and the number of people will be normally 2 grand children of family of no more than 4. I have posted this question on the lens forum as I think I may be going beyond the remit of this Welcome Forum

Yes it is fun and it is the only way in which you can really be free to chose your own components.
I think the K3 will be fun. It is just a choice of lens I am trying to decide on. As suggested go with the 18-135 which would allow me to get the 35mm, or, go for the 16-85mm with the real possibility of ditching the 35mm due to the increased costs.

Hi everyone, many thanks for all your welcomes and advice which I really appreciate.
I am dropping the 18-55mm lens and replacing it with
1) 18-135mm at current costing
or the
2) 16-85mm if it comes up again at £750 Amazon France
or
if you guys think that I would be better dumping the 35mm for the 16-85. There is really no way I can afford both at current UK prices. I chose the 35mm for:- low light, portrait - single to max. of 4 people and because I have read a lot about the benefits of having a fixed lens to telephoto.

Thank you for the info - I had not thought of looking at Amazon France, well worth a viewing, anything to save a few pennies. The following may be posted in the wrong forum but I have no doubt someone will put me right and move it if necessary. I am considering ditching the 18-55mm as this is not the first time I have heard that it is often that the 18-135mm is purchased instead. This works out at £200 than current costing. The 16-85mm which bertwert also mentioned is £400 dearer and I would have to dump the 35mm if I went for that. I would welcome any comments on this.

To be honest I am hoping to get the set up in April / May at the latest, but on occasions emergencies crop up that put a financial delay on plans.

Hi I have joined this forum because I will be upgrading my wife's camera (Lumix) sometime between April and June of this year prior to a return (our 3rd) visit to the US in August of this year - Las Vagus, especially for the Grand Canyon and then on to San Francisco.
I started off looking at the Canon, but a reviewer suggested Pentax and after looking into them, I have decided to go down that route instead.
Whilst originally I was going for the K-S2 I have changed my mind and will be going for the K3 providing it is still around and has not increased significantly in price by the time I am ready to buy.
As for lenses I have looked around, put out feelers, asked questions and had as many different answers as questions. This includes an answer to a question I posed in a beginners forum (a general photography forum) where I was told to go away as I did not know what I was doing.
I have chosen the following
Pentax 18-55mm every day usage
Pentax 35mm for wide and portrait
Pentax 55-300mm for telephoto - I thought it might just be a useful one to have and would be put to good use at the Grand Canyon

I am also getting a Lowepro Flipside back pack and a MeFoto A1350 tripod

It is my wife who takes photos but I have (after doing all the research work and paying for the upgrade) decided I will join her and this site has given me a lot of background to the components I have chosen.
My main interest however is building my own computers with photo and video editing in mind.
