Mine is only at 2800 clicks. So still a young'un.
I emailed Pentax customer support, but have not received an email back. Hinomaru, how much did yours cost to fix?

Contacts seem fine. All the pins on the camera seem fine too. The third pin seems different compared to the others, it is less raised than the others. Don't know if it is supposed to be that way

Here is one picture using the aperture ring set to "A" and setting the aperture at f1.7 on the camera.
And here is me setting the aperture ring to f1.7 manually.
I'm screwed aren't I? ---------- Post added 01-09-16 at 12:43 AM ----------
I did. If you click the pictures I posted above and see the EXIF data, they are both at ISO800.
The first image with the aperture ring set to "A" was at ISO800, f1.7 and 1/6 shutter speed.
The second (even though it is brighter) was with aperture set to f1.7 manually, ISO800 and 1/200 shutter speed.

Ok I have had this for two years now and when I first got it I compared it to my old K100D and felt that pictures were underexposed. I did finally get used to it and the camera took some decent pictures.
Over the past few days my camera seems to have developed a quirk. In low light conditions, it doesn't seem to record anything. If I point it at my monitor it seems to take a picture alright sometimes, but at other times, nothing.
I put my fastest lens on it, my 50mm f1.7. Set Av mode and left aperture wide open. I don't get an image unless I'm pointing directly at the light on the ceiling.
I used my 50-200mm kit lens, tried bulb mode, set ISO800, and set aperture wide open at f5.6 at 200mm. Left the shutter open for 2 minutes. This is what I got.
I set live view and set the aperture to f1.7, but the aperture ring in the lens looks like its stopped down completely.
I did a reset, still the same. I am hoping it is because of some custom setting, but it looks like something is completely screwy.

Ok. Now I understand. Thank you for your patience. I have to admit though the confusion is worth being able to use 40+ years of pentax lenses on the camera I bought a couple of years ago. This was my main problem with the Canons. I had an F1 from 1971 (it actually was used by the US Military before being sold away), and I had to constantly look for old lenses to use with it. While having everything manual was great for learning, sometimes capturing something that just required a point and shoot was a wasted opportunity.

No, my K1000 is long gone. Film was just too expensive to learn photography with. Before my K1000, I had a Canon F1 and I practiced with that, but it was so expensive (although I will admit some of the pictures from my film days were spectacular - when you're using film, you take more time to compose everything to avoid wastage). ---------- Post added 01-07-16 at 12:03 PM ----------
Please don't take this the wrong way, but I am such a newbie and so bad at understanding the math behind it that this completely flew over my head. However, I hope to one day understand exactly what you said here.
On a side note, I just bought a Pentax Takumar 135mm F2.5 lens on ebay for 20 bucks. w00t..!!

What about the FA lenses? How does the focal ratio change if using the older lenses?

Well I live in the suburbs so my sky is not THAT bad, the houses seem to block a lot of stray light. However, I get what you say about getting out of Dodge. A few years ago I went to the Mt Kobau star party in Osoyoos. You're camping on a 5000 ft high mountain, absolutely no light pollution and you can see the Milky Way. In fact it was so amazing, you could see things just by starlight.
And although getting to see Centaurus from 55 degrees North is a challenge in the city, because of things at the horizon, from 5000 ft up, you could see the teapot of Sagittarius. Truly amazing.

Hey everyone. I have lurked for awhile, but finally taken the plunge and signed up.
I used to be a long time Canon fan, started off with an F1, Ftb until my friend decided to give me her K1000 and help me see the light. The Canons were all sold and used to finance a K100D which I absolutely LOVED, but after 6 years it was time for it to move on and it went to a lady who was trying to learn photography and wanted a used camera to practice.
So I finally bought myself a Christmas present and got a K50 in stormtrooper white. Then got an O-GPS1 and I plan to do some astrophotography, if the skies above Vancouver ever decide to clear up.

So I have a K50, and I've been a Pentax user for over a decade now. Started off with a K1000 and switched to DSLR about 8 years ago.
Anyhoo.
So now I have a K50 and I usually use the DA lenses that it came with. I recently got an FA 50mm 1.7 (which I love) and am considering FA zoom lens that I could possibly get cheap. I am considering the FA 80-320mm.
I also recently acquired an O-GPS1 unit and plan to use it for astrophotography. When I used it with my DA 50-200mm lens, the O-GPS automatically detects the focal length and works as it is supposed to.
I am wondering though, if I get an FA lens, I am told that FA lenses are full frame, so using them with a DSLR will essentially make my 50mm a 75mm lens, and my prospective 80mm-320mm lens to a 120-480mm lens. Will the O-GPS have a problem compensating for this..? Will it be unusable? How will this affect the focal ratio? Does my f1.7 lens somehow become an f2.4?
So many numbers..!! Knew I should have paid more attention in math class.
