That's what it said at the site I linked, a couple of days ago. Now, at the same site, it says "O-HC171 Hot Shoe Cover has been sold out."

Site says it's sold out, although I'm pretty sure it wasn't available to purchase yet last time I checked...

I'll also throw this out there: field curvature (imagine looking at a square tile bathroom floor and seeing a "bubble" where the lines bow out that follows where you look) can be a sign of macular degeneration. There is "dry" and "wet" macular degeneration, and the latter has some treatment options that are time-critical, I believe.

Does the flash discharge at full brightness correctly when you press the pilot button? If not, try a different set of batteries?

On my KP with the same exposure settings on the camera, my flash is firing. My flash display reads the same as yours.
When you say the flash doesn't fire in manual exposure mode, is the camera shutter releasing and an image being taken, just no flash?

FWIW, my firmware is 1611 and my flash settings look like this.

01 sl ep on
02 af on
03 sl sd 60
04 sl of 8h
05 so nd on
06 se of 3

Any chance you can snap a pic of the back of your camera and flash display showing the settings on both when it's not behaving as expected in P-TTL and manual mode?

You said that you changed lenses. Make sure the flash hasn't slipped back on the hotshoe during the lens change. If the locking ring on the flash isn't tight enough, it's possible for it to move a bit in the hotshoe and possibly be left making a bad connection.

3 Lensbaby Lenses - All 75% Off!

FWIW, I never received an email saying my order was cancelled, but when I saw on their site that it had been cancelled, I replied to the backorder email I received, and got a reply that indicates it wasn't a pricing error, but that they ran out of stock and cancelled my backordered transaction, so maybe some people got their lenses, somewhere. I don't know what the forum policy is about pasting email communications like the back-and-forth I had with their support. so I didn't include it here. I'm sure there was a "while supplies last" or something in the fine print on the original sale page. *shrug* Doesn't look like my paypal was ever charged.

Need help identifying specks on Pentax-M 150mm lens

Thanks everyone for the info and tips about disassembly. If I decide to try to clean it up, assuming it's only on the rear of the front element, there aren't any re-alignment issues (i.e., I can just place the front element back in place and it's correct?) I really don't want to destroy an otherwise good lens.

Need help identifying specks on Pentax-M 150mm lens

Hey folks,

I just received a Pentax-M 150mm lens from Japan, that is supposed to be "near mint". The built-in lens hood is very loose (sounds like maybe they used felt to dampen the hood movement and it's deteriorated) but more concerning is the optics, which look very good when shining a light through the rear, but when viewed from the front, unlit, and at a slight angle, there appears to be something on the rear of the front element (as far as I can tell). This lens has 5 elements in 5 groups so there shouldn't be any separation (if I understand correctly) but it's not dust and doesn't really look like fungus (to me). Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

FWIW, I ordered the fisheye when it was $100 but backordered, and my order shows backordered, and I got an e-mail early today that stated as such, and still showed the $100 price.

available battery grips for KP

TheThe D-BG7 can take the D-LI109 battery that's the same one that the KP body takes, and it can also take the larger D-LI90. Maybe that's what you saw a reference to?

FWIW, if you use the smaller battery, you use a little "sled" to hold it inside the tray of the grip (comes with the grip). This sled has storage for an extra SD card (just storage, no connection to camera). There is also storage for an extra SD card in the tray of the grip.

So, if you use the small battery, you can store 2 extra SD cards in the grip, and if you use the larger battery, you can store 1 extra SD card.

Another thing to note, if you're considering the grip: while it will work with any of the three camera grip sizes (S, M and L) it comes with an (extra) L camera grip and aesthetically is designed to be used with the L grip on the body, as far as the contours, etc.

There's a thread in this subforum I think where a user did a detailed overview of the grip with photos when they got theirs.

Pentax KP Now or Wait?

I have the KP and several of the limiteds, plus the DA 18-135 and the 55-300 PLM.

To my mind, the limiteds fit perfectly with the KP. I sometimes use the battery grip with the two zooms, but I find that the weight of the KP balances well with the zooms even without the battery grip. I imagine if you had heavier telephoto lenses the grip would be a good match.

As far as the camera body itself (ergonomics, functionality) I'm very happy. I don't have the K-3 or K-5ii but from what I've read here, I imagine the KP would be an upgrade sensor-wise from the K-5ii, maybe less so from the K-3. There are numerous threads talking about AF performance, etc. vs. the K-3ii (I think it gets some mention in the in-depth review too?)

If I were in your shoes, I think I'd ask myself what was keeping you from shooting with the bodies you have? You've got some great bodies and lenses. Are there any particular pain points that you're looking to address, or are you just ready for something new? Both are totally valid reasons to upgrade, IMO.

I'm excited to see what happens with the K-3ii successor, but I'm really glad I got the KP when I did.

If you do get the KP, my advice as far as ergonomics is to try the different grips with an open mind. Coming from a K-50, the S and M grips seemed very foreign, but once I started aquiring limiteds, I've found that the S grip stays on the camera unless I'm using the battery grip (which pairs best with and includes a L grip.)

I've picked up the 20-40 for myself and it's sitting in it's box waiting on Christmas morning - I imagine it will be my walk-around on the KP in the new year.

Also waiting with a bit of anticipation for whatever they put out for the 100 year anniversary. If it's something awesome like a retro homage to the film bodies of the past, and the K-3ii successor materializes in 2019 too, I'm going to be torn 😁

FWIW, the 20% Amazon prime credit offer is available on a variety of Rokinon and Samyang lenses (maybe others, I didn't look through everything). Some are available in multiple mounts, and when you browse the list of 20% elligible products, they may not say Pentax, but if you click it and select the mount options, if it has Pentax K mount, the 20% is still applicable, from what I can tell. For example:

FWIW, there's a place to store the rubber stopper from the camera bottom and the plastic cap from the grip pins on top of the grip where it mates with the camera, so you don't lose them.

k-50 user modes question

Two things to try - In the Menu, camera tab 4, under "Save USER Mode", you can choose "Check Saved Settings" then select USER1 to get an overview of the settings that have been saved to that user mode. If you need help deciphering it, the manual can probably help, or you could take a picture of the screen with a phone or something and post it here and maybe someone can help. Also, you could try, under that same "Save USER Mode" menu, "Reset USER Mode" then select USER1, and this will set it back to default settings.

Good luck!
