I'll also throw this out there: field curvature (imagine looking at a square tile bathroom floor and seeing a "bubble" where the lines bow out that follows where you look) can be a sign of macular degeneration. There is "dry" and "wet" macular degeneration, and the latter has some treatment options that are time-critical, I believe.

I have the KP and several of the limiteds, plus the DA 18-135 and the 55-300 PLM.
To my mind, the limiteds fit perfectly with the KP. I sometimes use the battery grip with the two zooms, but I find that the weight of the KP balances well with the zooms even without the battery grip. I imagine if you had heavier telephoto lenses the grip would be a good match.
As far as the camera body itself (ergonomics, functionality) I'm very happy. I don't have the K-3 or K-5ii but from what I've read here, I imagine the KP would be an upgrade sensor-wise from the K-5ii, maybe less so from the K-3. There are numerous threads talking about AF performance, etc. vs. the K-3ii (I think it gets some mention in the in-depth review too?)
If I were in your shoes, I think I'd ask myself what was keeping you from shooting with the bodies you have? You've got some great bodies and lenses. Are there any particular pain points that you're looking to address, or are you just ready for something new? Both are totally valid reasons to upgrade, IMO.
I'm excited to see what happens with the K-3ii successor, but I'm really glad I got the KP when I did.
If you do get the KP, my advice as far as ergonomics is to try the different grips with an open mind. Coming from a K-50, the S and M grips seemed very foreign, but once I started aquiring limiteds, I've found that the S grip stays on the camera unless I'm using the battery grip (which pairs best with and includes a L grip.)
I've picked up the 20-40 for myself and it's sitting in it's box waiting on Christmas morning - I imagine it will be my walk-around on the KP in the new year.
Also waiting with a bit of anticipation for whatever they put out for the 100 year anniversary. If it's something awesome like a retro homage to the film bodies of the past, and the K-3ii successor materializes in 2019 too, I'm going to be torn 😁

TheThe D-BG7 can take the D-LI109 battery that's the same one that the KP body takes, and it can also take the larger D-LI90. Maybe that's what you saw a reference to?
FWIW, if you use the smaller battery, you use a little "sled" to hold it inside the tray of the grip (comes with the grip). This sled has storage for an extra SD card (just storage, no connection to camera). There is also storage for an extra SD card in the tray of the grip.
So, if you use the small battery, you can store 2 extra SD cards in the grip, and if you use the larger battery, you can store 1 extra SD card.
Another thing to note, if you're considering the grip: while it will work with any of the three camera grip sizes (S, M and L) it comes with an (extra) L camera grip and aesthetically is designed to be used with the L grip on the body, as far as the contours, etc.
There's a thread in this subforum I think where a user did a detailed overview of the grip with photos when they got theirs.

Camera was in Program mode, so shutter speed was between 1/100 and 1/320 and aperture was between 4 and 5.6 depending on the photo. JPEGs SOOC.

FWIW, there's a place to store the rubber stopper from the camera bottom and the plastic cap from the grip pins on top of the grip where it mates with the camera, so you don't lose them.

I believe you have to 1) attach a manual focus lens (or a lens with an AF/MF switch, set to MF), 2) enable "catch in focus" in the config menu, 3) set the focus selector on the camera body to Auto focus (required for the CIF, lens is still manual focus, obviously) 4) focus and fully depress the shutter button and once the camera thinks the center focus point is in focus, the shutter will release.
I read through a great thread here on this the other day. I'll try to find it if you can't get it working. I believe I searched for "CIF" or "catch".
There are some cool ways you can use this. You can use a shutter release cable to keep the shutter released and the CIF will trigger an exposure each time something comes in focus (someone in that thread was doing this with hummingbirds taking hundreds of shots a day at a feeder, unattended, IIRC) and instead of waiting, you can move the camera closer toward your subject until it's in focus and the CIF triggers, etc.

Ah, didn't know about the lack of wired shutter release on the K-S2 ☹️

If you were wanting a stationary setup, I can envision a rig with a dowel in a clamp attached somewhere on the tripod that the camera was on that kept the shutter release button pressed.

Is this lens screw-drive AF? IIRC, had an issue on my K-50 where the focus selector switch can get bumped to a "between M and AF" state where the screw drive mechanism isn't fully extended or retracted but the camera still registers AF mode. Unfamiliar with the K-5, but give it a look.

From K-50 manual:
Capture Mode (p. 20) EV bar scale
Displays the EV compensation values or difference between the
appropriate and current exposure values in a mode. (p.90, p.92)
Table on page 89 indicates that you can change EV comp in M mode.
Then, on p. 90: In M mode, the difference from the proper
exposure is displayed in a bar scale while
the shutter speed or aperture value is
adjusted. The exposure value blinks red
when the difference from the proper
exposure is ±3.0 or larger. |

I think what you're seeing isn't that the EC is set to -5. In M mode, the EV bar on the display and in the viewfinder will show you how much over or underexposed your photo is going to be when the camera is metering. When you press the EC button to set it, the bar displays the setting and let's you change it, then when you half-press the shutter release to focus, the camera meters and the EV bar changes to display what the camera thinks the exposure will be. You can test by opening up the aperture or slowing down the shutter speed. Assuming there's enough light, you should see the EV bar indicating less and less underexposure until it gets to 0. When I get home I'll check my K-50 and verify.

Welcome!
I had the great fortune of visiting Paris and Nice after highschool in 1996. Still have four photos I took with my dad's old range finder camera of the gardens at Monet's house on the wall in my livingroom. Many wonderful memories of your country.

FWIW, if biz-engineer is right about the AE turning off, there's a setting in there somewhere that controls how long the AE sensor stays on.

Haven't verified, but make sure you're not in Auto ("green") mode on the mode dial - several features are unavailable in Auto mode IIRC.
