K-3 vs. K-3ii... camera decisions

Hello all,

Browsing through the lovely B&H website, I stumbled across what seems to be an amazing deal.
A K-3 body, bundled with batter grip and AF200 flash, all for $750.That being said, would it be
worth it to save a little more money up and buy the Mark ii since I'm already spending that much?
There is also the new K-70 to be considered, as it seems to be offering similar resolution, with less
AF points and probably more than a few other downgrades that I am unaware of, but only at $650
for the body only. I do plan on shooting some sports, but most of my shots will be of rock climbers,
which move relatively slower and have much more predictable motions. I plan on pairing whichever
body I get with the 16-85mm, as I hear it is extremely sharp.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance!!

Arden

Tamron 70-200 f2.8 lens cover

Hello all,

If you are on the fence of buying a Tammy because of its lack of weather sealing (like I once was),
you should check out these lens covers from B&H! Literally just found them, so I can't attest to their
quality, but I just thought I would share. I will probably get the woodland camo when I grab my new
glass!

If you own this lens cover or one similar to this, what is your opinion on it?

take it easy, pentaxians,

Arden

Very helpful, thanks to you, and all who have commented! I will probably sell my two lenses, and start off with the 16-85. Seems like even though it has a slow aperture, it is sharp, silent, and versatile. As I save up more, I will probably invest in either the DA* 60-250mm f4 or the tamron 70-200 f2.8 for sports.

Hello all,

I've been looking around at what Pentax has been putting out in more recent years (k-5iis/k3ii) and even what other brands have been doing and thinking that maybe my camera (k5) might be getting a little outdated in terms of specifications. I'm somewhat new in the world of photography, it started as a hobby, and now I'm doing work for my college's newspaper. I guess my question is whether or not my camera is considered obsolete in today's day and age as for what people are looking for in image quality and performance. I am happy with a decent amount of the pictures I take, but I can't help think that there's a better camera out there to do the job. I like to photograph sports, wildlife, and landscapes.

Thoughts?

Arden

Ps:
I should also add that the only lenses I own for it are the 18-55 wr and 50-200 wr. Maybe time for a new lens, too?

Thank you!

I started out with an Olympus mirrorless, and I was extremely confused for the first few weeks.

This is pertaining to cropped-sensor cameras and their lenses.

I am just curious as to why companies don't label their cropped-sensor lenses with their true cropped focal length.
It's just something I've always thought about. Beginners searching for lenses could be deceived by buying a lens
for a specific focal length and then realizing it is 1.5x or even 2x the length they wanted. Wouldn't it just be easier
if everything was labeled with their true length?

Activating HDR Shot on K-5

Hello,

As you can see in the picture attached, HDR capture is in the menu, but it is grayed
out like the other 3 options and cannot be activated. How do I access those options?

Thanks!

Arden

thanks for all the help, you guys rock. I will probably be looking at the 16-85 for a walk-around lens, and tamron 70-200 for sports shots.

I would like to shoot snowboarders and skiers, but I also will be shooting a lot of rock climbing, which usually is in bright conditions. Weather sealing is important. I shoot on a K-5 by the way

I've been doing research on some telephotos for sports, and my budget is under about $800.
These two stood out because they can both be found sub-500, yet the 50-135 is obviously
more expensive. Prices set aside, which would be better? 55-300 has more range, yet it is
supposedly slow. 50-135 has IF, fast aperture, and decent range. However, I have heard that
the DA* has horribly slow AF. Thoughts? Maybe a different lens entirely?

Thanks,

Arden

Sure was an unfortunate winter for the East Coast! This is a shot I took at a competition at my local ski resort.
For those who shred&shoot, what's your favorite lens for winter conditions? Favorite model? Being that Pentax
is top-of-the-line when it comes to weather-sealing, I thought it was only right to start a thread about snow sports.

I think there are so many ways to ramble on about the best lenses or cameras to use,or
specify the best settings in the best scenarios, but the one thing that ANY photographer
must always keep an eye on, is compensation. Every setting on your camera has a pro and
a con. High ISO, more grain, but high sensitivity, high shutter speed, less blur, but less exposed.
Learn your camera, learn when to sacrifice, and above all, learn when to compensate for
the pros and cons of your aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and white balance.

I am a college student looking for an upgrade from my kit lens. I love shooting action/sports more than anything else.
What have you guys used? I don't want to spend over $400. That might be a lot to ask for. My kit lens's focal length
and sharpness are pretty mediocre.

Thank you!!!
