The future.
Make an epic APS-C, an epic full frame and an epic 645.
. . . three models only and nothing else. Just high end yet price beating.

Launch price was too cheap. Glad I bought mine at £1700 including grip.
As turnover in the high end camera market shrinks and wages rise in the developing world countries they're made, expect this stuff to become significantly more expensive.

Concentrate on one APS-C, one full frame and one 645z model only.
Sony have said the future is in the high end enthusiast market, no entry or mid range cameras.
Pentax' problem is the cost of new high end lens development and return on investment as I see it. Too much catching up to do in a shrinking market with already very low market share.

Recently I watched a recycling division of a large paper company spend £500k on a site only to close it weeks later.

Oh noes!
Back to adapted mirrorless if this is the case. Metabones AF K to E needed.
Ghastly!

f/4 works. After hauling the K-1+grip and D-FA* 2.8/70-200 round the farm yesterday I miss my Sony 4/70-200 G. f/4's are typically a bit better optically too, although that D-FA* is tough to beat.

Paolo, only "vintage" lens I brought this time was a K 1.2/50. I was already at 40 kgs on a 30 kgs baggage limit and somehow got through check-in okay by wearing a tog vest, pockets filled with various lenses and the K-1 and D-FA* 70-200 on a BlackRapid Yeti.
Lighter and with AF is better, although that 2 kgs 70-200 was well worth hauling.

Agreed, since I got the D-FA* 70-200 I have no need for a portrait lens. This is a f/6.3, 200mm . . . |

Biz, I know what you mean and I'm always a bit fearful we could lose Pentax at some point, but it's unlikely. I spoke to Joe Edelman about this and he reckons Nikon, Canon and Pentax will be around for good.
Consider this. If Pentax does disappear you can always go adapted mirrorless. If Pentax disappeared no doubt there would be a huge market for K-mount to E-mount AF adapters and that demand will be met by Metabones or whoever. Battery life will continue to suck however.
Moving systems because of what might happen but hasn't and likely won't is a guaranteed financial calamity. I certainly won't be giving up my Pentax glass, ever.

Couple of hours ago a good fellow saw me struggling along at Heathrow departures with a K-1 and DFA* 70-200.
Asked what it was and it so turns out he's a fellow Pentaxian and a member of this very forum.

He used shaky bike test for the A99II review. Came to the same conclusion as he did the K-1.
Think shaky bike tester might be the problem.

I'm going to sell off all the unused gear when I get back. All the Sony stuff. Loads of old glass. Get it down to essential only. Some stuff I'm leaving in the Thailand house for eldest daughter, a K-5IIs and some AF lenses, Metz 52 etc.
It is scary the mass of kit we accumulate over the years.

Yup! Six months is a long time there. It can get seriously dull and repetitive and the reason many end up alcoholics who start their day with rice moonshine. It's good to have a selection of gear in the dry cabinet to stop one from going mad.

I'm packing right now for a long haul back home to the Far East for six months. It's a nightmare with the K-1 and 15-30, DFA* 70-200 and even the small primes (50/1.2, 31, 43, 77, 100 WR etc.), a heavy laptop, couple of flashes.
30 kilo max baggage and I'm still at 34 kilos. Can't take my Induro tripod, can't take any of the Cactus strobist gear. Can't imagine hauling any more hefty lenses.
I agree. Slightly slower is much smaller and lighter. More likely to get used.

It might be worth 3rd parties offering K-mount lenses where holes exist in the Pentax catalogue and where the 3rd party can easily produce a batch from existing lines.

It is admittedly, a frustration.
A while after I'd got into big cameras and deeply committed to Pentax I realised action photography was my thing.
I did pick up an A6000 on the cheap along with an 4/70-200 G OSS and had the thing permanently in machine gun mode. It's epic! But Sony prices for the quality gear are well beyond my reach now.
I had hoped the K-1 would match up on tracking AF with the D-FA* 70-200. It ain't bad, it just ain't no Tommy gun. Buffer clearance is a bigger let down than the AF-C.
Still the best value for money mind.
