Thank for all the advice. I like to learn from others, especially those I trust (you chose PENTAX)
The reasons I asked were that: 1. I like wildlife photography wirh my new 150-450mm and I'm not as steady as I once was so I need to keep the Shutter speed up to 1/1000 if possible. and 2. I like night time landscapes as well. So far I've kept the ISO at 6400 for that with good results.

I got caught without a tripod a few times and tried hand holding an HDR because the sun was so bright behind the overcast sky. Also Love how it outputs the HDR and high res. shots to .dng insteed of jegs. the more I get familliar with it the more impressed I am. My Nikon hasn't been out of the bag since the pentax arrived.

did you have to calibrate the focus on your Irix? and Do you use a uv filter on the lens? I ask becausemy Irix would give me bad commas at night untel I removed my filter.

I've had my K1 ii for one week now and haven't had much time to get out due to work. Last night I was able to get out and try some test shots for about an hour. I only shot with the 28-105 lens so I could see how it does. And I like how the camera handles; however, I have some nikon habits to break my self of (I kept trying to adjust my iso with a button and knob that weren't set for that function)
I Tried the hand held pixel shift (photo below and a close cropof the same) and I'm pleased. The in body shake reduction worked well for me. And when I used a tripod with out shake reduction there was no evidence of camera shake from the mirror etc.
I like what I've read in the E-book I purchased here about night shooting with the K1 and am looking forward to an outing soon to try a side by side against my nikon gear. I'm confident the pentax will do much better.
I still need to get out and get more familiar with this awsome machine.

OK I've got lots to learn. I had it set to auto (factory default) I've only had the camera for three day. So I steped outside and took 4 test shots. one in auto, one in neutral, one in vivid, and one in landscape, then opened each in luminar to see what happened. And that was the problem. Luminar and I like the neutral one best for a starting point. ---------- Post added 04-16-18 at 08:47 PM ---------- Thanks all for the help. I feel much better now. However, I haven't had a chance to get out and shoot the things I wanted the pentax for. But at least now I will be able to edit them
On the other hand can Luminar handle the super resulution files?

Does any one else use luminar? I loved Luminar to process my .nef nikon photos but when when I load photos from my new Pentax k1ii they look flat and require more editing. Is this normal or what settings should I change.

Is any one ellse tired of waiting?
I'm eager to start shooting Pentax again. It's been close to 20 years since I retired my K1000 and my MX. And 7 years ago I started shooting digital with a Nikon d3100 I recieved as a gift. It was quickly upgraded to a d5200 and some nicer lenses.
I felt it was time to get a Professional grade camers at the first of the year and was looking in to pentax and was on the fence when they anounce the K1ii. So I decided to switch brands and hopefully use some of my sons extensive vintage lenses. Now I'm just tired of waiting and it's hard to get out and go shoot knowing that I'll just have to shoot it again when the Pentax finally gets here.
I've attached a few of last weeks shots taken with the d5200 and a tokina 11-15mm lens. How much beter could they be if I had the Pentax?

Thanks for the advice I was going to go with the 24-70 but the weight may not be worth the extra stops over the 28-105 and one or two primes
now I think the 28-105 and an irex 15mm 2.8 for mynight shots and then the 100mm 2.8 macro to round out. I do have a tripod but... it usualy only gets out at night or when things require longer shutter speeds i.e. water falls

Hello all,
i shoot landscapes, some night shots, some birds, and anything else that might look interesting. Currently I am shooting a nikon crop sensor with the kit lens (18-55) a 55-300 and an 11-15 tokina. I'm thinking of keeping the nikon with the 55-300 for birds.
I can't afford alot of lenses so please recomend what I should start my Pentax full frame bag with.
