Very well done. B&W is perfect. The faint vehicle trail is just enough to lead the eye.

A snowscape common in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, USA. To attempt to make it interesting I waited for the sun to lower to begin to cast shadows. Pentax 645z and the Black & White develop module in Lightroom.

A photo when I had the 645Z for about a week. Used the 90mm 6x7 lens with adapter. Picture has a flat look. But the light was weird and the humidity was very high, so maybe that is part of the cause.

Appreciate the work you've done here. Silver Efex is a great program. I wonder where the roots go at the bottom of the pic. Could you have included more ot them. Very minor criticism, great photograph.

I like why you took this. The tough style and exterior of the bridge contrasts wonderfully with the delicate pattern of the lights. A wonderful photograph.

Thank you "S" for your time and thoughtful assistance. I will make a color adjustment somewhere in-be-tween. The pine does have reddish bark which the white balance caught nicely, but enhancing the sky is indeed necessary, though the early morning had a haze to it. Your treatment does look lovely however.

Early series of shots when I first got the 645z. 45mm with Pentax adapter and ON A TRIPOD. Pretty eimpressive dynamic range to bring out details of pine using shadows slider and lower contrast in LR5. I now have the FA 645 45-85 and may someday go back and takemthe same shot for a comparison.

Most of your gear will function fine in exreme cold, but will you? To have the patience and discipline to frame and take the shot YOU must be well insulated and comfortable or you will rush the shot. When driving, resist the urge to pass up a shot thinking you will come back to it….you never do. Have a cleaning cloth always in your pocket because you will breathe on the viewfinder or Live View and fog it up….this will happen with frusrating regularity. Have fun!!!

Dealing with foreground elements in landscape photos is the hardest part of landscape photoraphy. In this case, the rise and fall of the foreground treeline works for me, but since I know you were stuck with this view then always ask should I take this picture at all if there is a dominant element that wont help my intent for taking this photo. I like the twilight colors and wouldnt color correct.

Landscape Aspen trees in a local conservation area

Good framing and composition, but since the sky is a dominating element it has to be more interesting or dramatic. Processing is very good. The right side of the photo with the smaller pines and flat horizon is uninteresting. If the intent is to show the landscape then the landscape as presented lacks impact except for the potential of the aspen clump. I would work more closely with the aspen trees, either as a stronger element under early or late light, or on a macro scale showing it's relationship to itself or the beautiful grasses.

The Pentax "Missle": the M* 800mm and Kodak 800 ISO film off of a beanbag rest using the 67II. Very sharp, but not the digital "snap" kind of sharp, more a smoothness to it which I like in this case. Focus was on the mule deer buck so doe is softer.

Gallery worthy. I would actually consider softening the sky a bit and limiting the natural HDR effect captured by camera by moving the Clarity slider (in LR) to the left about -25. A wonderful photo.

In beginning landscape work you just have to knock out a bunch of these to test your technique, lenses, framing. etc. You can get into some serious Zen type reasons for snapping the shutter on the other hand some basics as presented to you by the generous commenters are all you need to progress. I would add several of my own: WHY am I taking this - art; snapshot to be deleted in a day or two; documentary reasons; "I was here"? Is there an important IDEA or CONCEPT I'm displaying to elicit emotion? Remember a photo "properly" exposed and in focus is not necessarily a good photograph. Keep shooting and hope to see many more!
