Anyone else with thyroid issues?

Yes, I notice this with my overactive thyroid as well. I have to make sure I take care of myself, but sometimes it is hard, especially with a six year old.

Your poor friend! That is awful.

It's wonderful to hear your wife's story, though. She must be very happy she decided to have that done. I'm going to give it some time. My doctor is hopeful and thinks it will regulate, or go under active eventually, but he said it could be many years. I just don't like feeling like I'm on a rollercoaster. I going to see what I feel like this Christmas. That will be 18 months.

Oh goodness, did they remover her thyroid? I'd think they'd have to in her case. I had a friend who got thyroid cancer when she was pretty young, I'm thinking 20 or 21. She had her thyroid removed and, as for as I know (we haven't seen each other in years), has been on replacement meds and went on to have two kids and a pretty normal life.

Does smoking cause thyroid issues? The doctor did ask me if I smoked, but they always ask that, and I never have, so they didn't say anything else about it.

What camera straps do you have on your Pentax?

I have some brand of sling strap, but I'm not sure it is the right thing. It is a pain to take it off if I need to access the tripod mount. It is comfortable though. Still getting used to it.

wow, it looks great, the price is a total shocker! I really thought it would be higher, and the specs are awesome! I can't preorder one. I have to pay off my new lens and then try to talk my husband into yet another purchase, lol. Yeah, maybe I'll get my hands on one in a couple of years.

LOL, that is too funny. Thanks for sharing! Usually what happens to me is they make an offer, I accept, then I never hear from them again. Craiglist is a strange little world.

It's great you've been able to find the right dose. Yes, hyperthyroidism is a pain. Eventually I may go hypo, so I've been told. I never knew what a thyroid did until I had all this start this past summer. Goodness the thyroid controls so much. It does have a huge impact. It is hard to explain to others what it feel like.

Yes, when my symptoms came on I actually thought well, I'm 35 now, maybe I'm having some early menopause symptoms or something. But then it all went crazy and I ended up in the ER. So glad yours is under control! I feel like mine is close. The last time I felt like this was September, then I had a long period of feeling mostly good. My doctors seems to think it is natural to have some bad days, and I think I am starting to feel better. I just want it to go away!

---------- Post added 02-23-16 at 08:44 PM ----------

Oh gosh, yes my neighbor was on BP meds. Hit her hard when they kicked in and she feel over at the mall. Very tricky stuff from the sound of it.

So did Mrs. Rupert have her whole thyroid removed? If so, does she feel better with no thyroid than she did before? I'm still hoping I'm in remission, this is just a few off days, but I have thought about surgery. It is my backup plan.

Yes, rest is so helpful, thankfully my husband and my mom helped me a lot yesterday and I spend most of the day in bed. I think that really helped, and I ate a ton of food.

I've having the opposite problem, I'm hyperthyroid (too much thyroid hormone), but I have Hashimotos, which usually makes people hypo (too little thyroid hormone), so they think I'm having some kind of flare-ups that can be caused by the Hashimotos. They thought I had Graves disease too, I have the antibodies for it as well, but it didn't follow the typical Graves progression, so they ruled that out. I'm not currently on any prescription medication for it. I was on Methimazole for a while. Then my numbers went down, so they took me off. I do some herbs that I got from a Naturopathic doctor. I just increased those, trying to get through this. If I don't feel better soon I'll call my Endo. He said to give it a few days before I call. He expects me to have off days, but if I feel bad for too long then I need to get bloodwork done. I just don't know.

It is weird you mention that, too. My cat went hyperthyroid about the same time I did, and she's on Methimazole. Isn't that strange?

Just curious. I've had a flare-up recently, not feeling well. I think I'm a little better today, going to try to sit outside and take some bird photos. Just feel so bummed. I keep thinking I'm moving past this, I'll go for a while ok, then it comes and gets me. I was in a stressful situation and then it all started up again. I hate feeling like this. I was trying to avoid getting it removed, but sometimes I think it would be easier to remove it and take the meds for the rest of my life. Anyway, thanks for listening.

Lol, no problem, sorry about my mistake! I'm glad to hear it is such a reliable lens. I don't abuse my stuff, but I don't want to run away from rain and snow. That's what first made me look at Pentax.

Thank you, I think I will. After testing it more in my house I do think something is wrong with it. I've also been using my 55-200 just to compare and try to confirm what I am thinking.

It is a new lens. I've only had it for a about a week. It is doing the same thing inside as well. I put my kit zoom on and tried that as well, to make sure it isn't my camera that developed a problem. The kit zoom is achieving focus. Sometimes it is a little slow since it isn't very bright in my house, but it is consistently getting focus.

Thank you for all your responses. I wasn't out long before I started using the camera, maybe 5 minutes, long enough to get out back and in a good spot. I was out for a while though, same the whole time I was out, and I tried a second time. I will try your suggestion to let it adapt to the cold first and see if I get any different results. Thanks for the tip about the zip lock bag, I will certainly do that.

It has been inside for a few hours now, I'm going to turn it on and give it a try in here. I figure if it acts the same in here after it has warmed up, then I will take your advice and get a replacement. I wonder if I should buy an extended warranty for it. What do you all think?

---------- Post added 02-10-16 at 01:25 PM ----------

One question about putting the lens in the bag: Do you take the lens off the camera first, put caps on it, and then put it in the bag, or do you put it camera and all in the bag? Thanks!

Hi there, I'm pretty new here, recently purchased my first nice lens, a DA*300mm f4, very nice. The first day I used it, it worked perfectly. Focus was smooth and quiet, fairly fast, I got some very good first photos with it.

Well it got really cold here, snowy too. I took it out to try to get some pictures of the birds in the snow. Suddenly the AF is having a terrible time achieving focus. It click and clicks, often just stops trying and doesn't get focus at all. It will do this over and over again, and only occasionally get focus. Once it even threw everything out of focus, then stopped and I couldn't get it to even try to focus.

So I'm pretty new to this lens, so if it is something I'm doing, what can I do differently? Or could it be the cold? I'm not sure the exact temperature while I was out, but I think it was around 17 degrees F. I'm just confused. It worked so great the first time I used it, but it was a little nicer out, much warmer too. Like I said, I totally accept it could be me. I just need some advice here.

Thanks!

I'm going to have to check out that 300mm club, thanks! yeah, I wanted a lens like this for a long time. Then after I saved a bit, I thought I might upgrade my body, but decided to get the lens instead. I'll get a used new-to-me body eventually. I really feel like the new lens has breathed new life into my k-50.

Wow, how neat to have a pet raccoon! I used to follow a blog that was "written" by a pet raccoon named Remo. It was pretty funny, watching all the stuff he could do.

I've always liked possums. Not sure how they got a bad reputation. Hopefully people are realizing what great critters they are!

Aww, thanks y'all! I'm in Kentucky. Yes, I have the DA*300. I had a hard time choosing my new lens, I probably won't get another for a long time. That 60-250 looks nice too. This was a huge purchase for me, not even sure how I talked my husband into it!

This is my first picture post. I just got my 300 f4 lens in the mail yesterday! I decided to go ahead and update my lens. Later on I want to get a used k5ii, but for now I am very happy with my new lens. I wasn't out for long, it is pretty cold today. I hope the photo comes through. I'm still getting used to this lens and how to handle it. It is big! Ok, I've seen bigger, but for me, it is big!

Lovely photos! I really like them all. I love possums. I once rescued a bunch of baby possums off the road after their mama was hit. It was sad, but amazing that they lived through it. Took them to a wildlife rescue place. They are fun to watch. We have them here but I never usually see them in the daylight.
