I like that idea alot Groucho. Thanks. I'll give it a try. At least it passes into the file itself which is what I want. Great solution.

I've mentioned it before on this forum but I'd like to again - The ability to SAVE A LIST of file name prefixes would be great when using M42 and other glass where the K1 doesn't pick up the lens properties. That way when you're quickly swapping out your epic new pentax lenses with your lovely old Pentax, Takumar Leica.. etc. lenses you can just select the preset name from your list which match the lenses you've got, shoot and then you can see which lenses you used for the shot when in post processing. Look if anyone else has a workable solution (not the folder solution which doesn't embed any info in the file name automatically into Lightroom) please let me know.

Thanks guys !

I should have said before I'm particularly interested in Extreme Macro. I also have the 100mm macro. Will extension tubes help here much?

I used a normal drill and mounted on a 1cm cylinder grinding stone - worked well. The end result is fantastic.

the 60-250 is very good in FF even without any teleconverter (I have performed the baffle modification). Adding the Tamron Teleconverter only reduces the already barely noticeable vignetting. The Pentax HD teleconverter adds vignetting but including the Tamron as well allows the image to be fully full frame capable and with the K1 the autofocussing works very well considering the configuration.

I've done some interesting tests with teleconverters - I used the 60-250 on the K1 - and then used the Pentax 1.4 APS-C on the lens and the Tamron 1.4X Pz-AF MC4 Tele Convertor against the body - giving 1.4 * 1.4 * 250 at the long end - some strange results but then I got this one which stunned me... at f/8 - ISO 800, 1/250 sec. Seems really sharp. I believe the camera is only reporting the pentax converter accurately - so its a stop greater than 8 I believe... The interesting thing is that you get a full frame image as the Tamron converter zooms past the Pentax APS-C vignetting giving you 36 megapixels at around 490mm. With higher ISO settings you get away with some ok shots.

No the 24 to 60 is not Art - but on the forum it gets great results for sharpness - its cheap and lighter. Its only $300 AUD so seems like an ok deal for full frame.. I have a K20d and the K1 now also so its ok to have APS-C but I'll be sure to report on the results I get with the teleconverter. When can we expect a Pentax HD full frame teleconverter?

Heres the Sigma 24-60 review:

I'm considering buying the Sigma 24-60mm F2.8 EX DG. I currently have the Sigma Art Series 18-35 F1.8 and I am getting the Tamron-F 1.4X Pz-AF MC4 teleconverter delivered shortly.

I'm wondering whether there are any thoughts in the forums of which would be better as the Sigma 24-60mm F2.8 EX DG is a full frame lens - and the Sigma Art Series 18-35 F1.8 is APS-C - but with the teleconverter it should be a 24-49 in full frame (I'm hoping it'll all be ok)

The 18-35 with teleconvert might be quite heavy - but given the teleconverter is 1 f-stop they'll both be F2.8 so yeah i'm thinking it should be a little bit worse image quality than the normal art lens but probably similar image quality or maybe a bit worse than the 24-60.

Has anyone got both of these and can tell me what the difference is or have any thoughts?

M42 Lens file mgt

Hi - I have a number of lenses which don't automatically save lens metadata - what is the best way to do this on the K1 - I see the folders capability and the file naming - but folders don't automatically save info against the file - so when you import its another thing to think about; and the file naming - you have to name manually each time. It would be good to be able to save a list of name prefixes for when you swap out your lenses. This would make it much better for me - as i'm continually looking at photos and thinking - which lens did I use for that ? - would be a simple UI update which would be much appreciated by me - and probably other people too ! I'd also like to set custom text metadata in the User presets (U1-U5) as then I can just twist to the lens I'm using and its all automatically set.

DA* 60-250 mod for FF

Thanks Gutta - i wasn't referring to the black screws, but the other screws - of which you are to remove 3 out of 4. Two of these are situated together. I was removing the wrong one - you have to remove the one on the left when the lens is pointed down. Well its all done now and from the testing so far has worked well. It's funny I was thinking of buying this lens and using it as best as I can with a K1, but now after the mod I have a brilliant DA* full frame lens which I can also use in APS-C mode taking me even further (i.e. I understand this is just cropping) but nonetheless it feels like I have two telephoto zoom lenses now, and not too expensively (9050 SKr new). I have not owned a DA* lens yet, so I'm enjoying that greatly. Also have the 28-105 HD lens and wondering when I find out about a teleconverter which will work with both....

Ok I see now - when there are two screws together - you remove the left screw not the right.... removed now - mine has pretty solid looking clear glue attaching the baffle - I don't think I can just remove - I think I have to dremmel it away now - scarey - is there a replacement part if it goes wrong and if so, how much does it cost ?

How do you lift out the tube once you've unscrewed the two black screws and three chrome screws (i.e. I'm unscrewing those furthest away from the front of the lens) but don't know how to get the tube out....?

Hi everyone ! - I am a budding photographer reviving my love of photography after a long break. I'm particularly interested in macro photography and landscape photography but enjoy all types of photography. I particularly like doing under exposed shots which give a dark and mysterious feel, but also, allow for a more artful approach as there are large regions of my work which are completely dark - giving extra shape to the image and focus on subjects/objects.

I am a Pentax user from 20 years or more, but also have a Canon G15 compact camera which I utilise regularly due to its easy transportation and great results quickly and simply.

For my SLRs, I have a K20d APS-C digital camera and an MZ-50 Analog camera - and a bunch of lenses - including

Sigma 18-35 Art Series
Tamron 18-200mm F3.5 - 6.3 Autofocus
Samyang 14mm F 2.8 Wide angle with the 160mm Filter mount
Tamron 80-210mm F4.5 - 5.6
Pentax 18-55 F3.5 - 5.6 DA lens (by memory I think the body came with this lens)
Takumar SMC 50mm macro F4
SMC Pentax-A 50mm F1.7 - 6 blade
Tokina 100-300 F5.6-6.7

M42 mounts:
Takumar - 135mm F2.5,
Takumar - 200mm F4
Takumar zoom 85-210mm F 4.5 with the extra Macro lens
Russian Helios 58mm F2

I just bought a MeFoto RoadTrip A1350Q1 Travel Tripod Kit which is an amazing tripod - I don't have much knowledge of other tripods, but this one is so beautifully machined, and with a ball mount its fantastic for quick setup.

I've just read a book by Tom Ang called 'Digital Photography - Step by Step' which I can thoroughly recommend, and I probably need to re-read it several times to solidify my knowledge.

I use the Samyang 14mm and Sigma 18-55 ART alot as these are so sharp, but I also love using the Takumar 135mm Prime, the Takumar SMC 50mm macro and the Pentax 50mm F1.7. I also find the Tamron 18-200mm F3.5 - 6.3 Autofocus a fantastic lens for general walkabout lens for its versatility. I love that Pentax has such a great range of lenses available and I am so excited about the new K1 for its full frame capability, APS-C compatibility, resolution, HD movies with line input for sound, and astro-tracing features. I'm seriously considering getting it when it comes out.

I understand a lot of my lenses are not 'pro', but nonetheless, it's great fun to switch out lenses for different purposes.

I have a few questions -

1. I would like to know for my Landscape photos - what are the best filters (along with which f - numbers) to use with my Samyang 14mm 160mm filter mount - Any advice appreciated.
2. Is there a better walkabout lens (in terms of fast autofocus and sharpness) than the Tamron 18-200 ? I believe this is water resistant which is a feature I really like.
3. Is there a way of making 160mm filters work with my 18-35 sigma lens?
4. Will all of these lenses work with the new K1 ?
5. Is the autofocus on the K1 in video/movie mode continuous enough to be used without obvious focus errors and could I use the Sigma 18-35 Art effectively?
6. I don't have a flash setup - I'd like suggestions for ring flashes and remotely triggered flashes for multiple light sources
7. Would the Sigma 2* teleconverter work well with the 18-35 Art lens (including autofocus capabilities) and for the cost would it be worthwhile given the loss of 2 stops of aperture ?
8. Are there any recommendations for light meters
9. What is the best lens(es) to use for landscape photography which would work with the K20d and the K1
10. Is there a better lens than the Sigma 50-500mm f/4-6.3 EX DG HSM for what it does?
11. And lastly, are there any photography groups which are recommended to go around and take photography trips with ?

Thanks, and happy snapping !

Have a nice day!

Benjamin.
