Anyway I will not keep it and try to sell it. I guess depending on the needs they might fit the bill for somebody else.

i did test with different power settings. I was talking to priolite and my published results are according to their recommendedations. It is not a sample variation. I had 2 units with same results. They have also been confirmed by priolite as normal. Certainly there are situation where you don't see it. And yes it can be fixed in post of course. Probably what Mark and Alex did.

dear clackers
the results have been discussed with priolite and they stated them as normal. I could send you photos from their tests, it is the same.

first of all I understand this is difficult to achieve with a big curtain like the 645z.
However this is not something I need to worry about if a company advertises a product.
I can not advertising a pair of shoes which will allow you to fly, over charge it, and then tell the customer that this is technically difficult and therefore not working.

Obviously Pentax has integrated the HSS in PTTL. In general HSS has nothing to do with TTL and is implemented in manual mode in other brands.

so far I figured out I get motion blur in mixed light with 1/125s.
If I shoot in available light, 1/125s is to slow for a portrait with 150mm. 1/400 would be better and save at 1/640s. I dont know if I shake or if it's the models, or both.
Slower speeds are just a bit to much random in sharpness, even on tripod.
Now the next problem, I found the pentax lenses get better when I stop down even beyond f8. So for now I end up turning up the iso like 3200 or 6400, or using flash to overpower ambient light significantly.
I have 35HD(great at any aperture), 55mm(can't tell to much yet, kind of inconsistent, to many factors for conclusions), 75mm(needs at least f8), 150mm(starts to get good at f8 and beyond, needs high shutters).
The 90mm would be an option, but price and weight let me doubt, if it's worth to get it.
I also wonder currently, if a continous light solution with fresnels would make sense for this system. It would certainly create more mood. They do not have the amount of light though to shoot at f8/ 1/640 and ISO400 though :) I need to measure this.

Brelip did you compare it to the 75 and 150?
I own this 2 and thinking about getting the 90mm because I can use it more open and have shake reduction.
I do portrait and fashion, and would like to do more with contious light. So I need quite fast shutter speeds.Worry a bit of the shallow depth of field though, because I really need the eyes sharp.
I shot all side by side already in the studio. f11 did not show to much differences between them. And at f5.6 shallow depth of field was kind of a limiting factor.
In general colors and contrast is very nice on the 90mm.

I just received my second pentax 540 unit and put it in pttl, slave, and it does not allow me to switch sync to hss. The master is in hss. Will both be in hss now or what do I need to do?

forget about capture fix, that guy is just a big marketing machine. Did the whole process to receive his capturefix and color profiles. I never got the color profile and wrote him several emails, none was answered.(btw: Also what he writes about the priolite is pur lie. they just don't work like this. they may eventually work for some shots outside and you will need to post process them to get an even exposure. I spend a lot of money on them based on his review and they just don't work properly).
try dxo. it does a much better job. and it can be launched from LR to process the raws while using LR as the database. C1 database is not even near to LR in file management and DXO has proper color profiles, lense corrections and gives you really good files. So you get the best of both worlds and integration is seemless.

ok I think I got it. It means if you have a nikon camera and flash you can use it. and if you have canon camera and flash, you can use it on them as well. Unlike Pocketwizard, where you need a specific version.

"Activating TTL pass-through on the V6 would allow mounting a Profoto Air remote on top of the V6, but again in your case that would be of no use because there is no Pentax-dedicated version of the Profoto trigger."
So according to this statement I could not have Canon HSS flash on a cactus to be operated from a pentax camera too, right?
So the only reason to buy a cactus remote, is to use an rf60 then if this is true. I thought I read somewhere, it is meant to be for brand interoperability.

So basically it will work in hss with any strobe having a duration longer then 1/200s?
I don't know how profoto b1 achieve hot sync. Depending on their technology it would be possible to mount a profoto hss trigger on a cactus and fire. The cactus would need to be triggered as optical slave with a pentax strobe in hss mode.
Anybody try that?

How to you trigger them?
Yes speedlights work. I have 2x 540 II Pentax.
What's really bad in those units is:
1.HS only in Pttl mode.
2.each time you switch off the flash, it will reset all settings. have to set to hs again and so on.
Ok. and then 3. at faster speeds the Pentax only fires the flash, if it is set to HS. I wonder who had this great idea.
A side effect, triggers on cam will not work. you will need a pentax HS agnostic device as a flash or trigger on cam. Accoring to Information from Cactus, their trigger is not.

Hello
older versions of capture one will read the DNG, however not the PEF. New versions blocked the Pentax 645z for competitive reasons. You can however change the metadata and pretend to be iq250 files. This will work, with somewhat odd color, and there is no lens correction profile. So I stick with Lightroom now.
The old pentax LS lenses would be an option, however they are not so easy to find, and the procedure to take a picture is not really suited for my style of shooting, besides them bein manual. ---------- Post added 02-09-16 at 04:36 AM ---------- ...and I did try the Pentax software, which only comes on the DVD and is not available for download on the Pentax support page(modern mbp don't have a drive, and I usualy don't need one). It is painfully slow, slower then Phocus. I mean really slow, and you would not even be able to make a side by side comparison of 2 pictures.

Hello Scifiguy
I did order 2 sets of Priolite and here you can read what I got: Priolite review | Bangkok Photographer studio Valentino
So I'm aware that all solutions will loose light, even leaf shutter above 1/500s will start to loose light(probably due to triggering communication).
The results might be usable outdoors sometimes, but will set you back to slower then 1/100s in the studio.
Not a real solution.
