I tried to jam it in a little harder, but it wont turn any further. The lens sits in the mount pretty tight.

as I mentioned before the alignment and orientation are clear, it's just that the lens doesn't move much inside the mount and doesnt snap in. No button or other setting necessary? Maybe I make a short movie clip later when I come home.

They are definitely there, the pic is just not good. If Ic ompare it to the Pentax lens nothing really seems to be different. The only thing thats missing in the Vivitar lens is that small flange protecting the stop-down lever, but I don't think, that's it.
Again, the lens is not only just falling out of the mount, when I screw it in it only turns ~5 degrees (instead of 40 degrees of the Pentax lens) and bangs against something hard, but it feels as if it is supposed to stop there, i.e. a sharp and metallic stop.
I don't know, shouldn't all native K-mount lenses fit into Pentax cameras? I mean, I'm not using any adapters which are always depending on manufacturing and what not.
I am feeling I am missing something when I'm mounting the lens (and yes, I'm new to all that), is there something I have to do to mount a vintage lens? I mean my new Pentax lens snaps right in, do I need to push any buttons or change any other settings somewhere? Because the way the lens fits feels right and smooth, it just feels there is one button I'm missing to let the lens turn further.
Unfortunately I don't have any other Pentax bodies...
I got the lens from KEH so I guess I try contacting them and ask if they have an opinion.

After a closer look I think the metal tabs are aligned (it's hard to see on the pic).
As I wrote before, the lens only fits in in one orientation, which is in alignment with the red dots.
edit: lol, sorry for the upside down pic, it shows fine in my picture browser...
edit 2 : Corrected image orientation

Hi
Thanks for the replies.
First, I added a picture of the lens mount and as mentioned before, it doesn't have an extended flange or a flange at all. Also, there is a P/K symbol etched in, which I assume refers to the mount.
I played around some more with the lens like Uncle Vanya suggested and compared it to my Pentax 50mm lens. The latter turns about 40 degrees in the mount until it snaps in, which is nicely visible through a white mark on the lens. The Vivitar only turns a few degrees (~5) and bangs solid and distinctly to a metal object inside the mount, maybe the aperture lever? If I compare the mounts of the two lenses I don't see something jumping at me, only that the 'gear teeth' are not aligned but I don't know if this is a functional difference.

Hi
I'm a beginner and it's my first vintage lens, so please be patient with my question:
I just received a beautiful Vivitar 70-210 mm series 1 lens with K-mount and want to put it on my K-S2, however, although the lens fits nicely into the mount, it doesn't snap in and hence is not secured in the mount. I tried opening and closing the aperture ring, changing the focus switch to manual, pushing the lens release button and the lens does only fit in one distinct orientation. Also the lens doesn't have this elongated flange, which was discussed elsewhere. I do seem to have figured out where the front end is, but you never know...
What to do?
Thanks a lot!

Hi
I'd like to play around with old vintage lenses (i.e. M42 mounts or old K mounts; I own a K-S2) and am looking for a telephoto lens for outdoor/nature photography.
I wanted to ask your opinion about particular lenses, recommendations and experience!
Thanks a lot!

Thanks everyone for the replies!
I guess it is better to go for the original Pentax M42 to K mount adapter (and to remember the Dremel!) than to gamble on this one.
Maybe there are some more opinions on the reverse mount ring? 'Not A Number' mentioned that production quality is not as critical with those...

Hi
I'm new to photography, Pentax and this forum. I just recently bought a K-S2 and I really like the idea of using older lenses or tinker around with technical stuff (e.g. cheap macro solutions). For that I'd like to buy some lens adapters and it seems there are big differences in pricing between the original Pentax lens adapters and generic brands. However, reading comments on various cheap adapters it seems that quality is not only sub-par, but lots of people report damaged lenses/mounts.
I am particularly interested in a M42 adapter and a reverse ring (not step-up/step-down) and maybe I could get some help, insight, experience from you regarding the quality differences (not necessarily flanged/not-flanged and the infinity focus thing) and dangers of damaging equipment.
Thanks a lot!
