I would like them to make a HD DFA*50-135 f2.5 but I know it won't happen...

It would give a point of difference for APS-C users and would be quite a useful portrait lens on FF.

So how long does it take to develop a new camera after the basic specifications have been decided? I would say about 2 years or so. That would put a replacement at approx. 2025 or later.

Ricoh imaging registration BC-186 Battery charger

It may well be. At least for that battery.

A replacement for the K70 could be an interesting machine. Finally the flippy screen fans can rejoice?

I would hope Ricoh take full advantage of the capabilities of the 26mp sensor and produce an uncropped 4K video to go with the 16-50mm f2.8 PLM and hopefully in the not-too-distant future a 50-135mm F2.8 PLM.

I would be interested to see whether they keep the high RI pentaprism too?

Hopefully we will find out in the not too distant future?

The BC-186 has reportedly been registered recently not BC-188?.
The BC-183 was registered prior to the release of the K-3 MkIII but was actually for the WG-series camera as stated above.

What if there was a new, bigger battery? Would that require a larger capacity charger?

I really don't know that much about these things but I would think a new K-1 or 645Z would have a feature set that may require more power and therefore require a more powerful charger.

To answer the OP. I don't think a replacement for the K-1 would be ready yet.
Apparently the Z645 has been developed and is ready to go, there was talk of a video centric APS-C camera being developed too and I don't think the GR will be replaced soon as it is selling well.
For my guess if I had to choose out of the four then it is either the 645Z or K70 with higher video features and possibly a new 50-135 PLM to go with it!. But would it need a new charger?

The new 645z would definitely have a bigger battery or two and would require a larger capacity charger.

Oh OokU she really has stirred things up...

I would tend to agree with you there. The KP seems to hold its value well in the used camera market. There is possibly a market for a new lower specs APS-C model. Just as long as it didn't drift too far into the K-3 mk III territory.

Can you please explain what you mean buy your use of the term 'dream'?

Did not the OP list the 645Z? Or was I dreaming?

I am not sure how this comment Is in any way relevant to the thread? I actually find the term 'dream' somewhat offensive. I hope that was not your intention?
I don't know why you are participating in this thread at all when your preference is to wait for the product release in order have all the fact?

The OP was inviting us to speculate. That is what this thread is about. Part of the slow release of a new camera I would suspect.

There was some speculation from Asahiman of a video focused APS-C model too. Maybe the K90 could be coming with strong video features?

If it is a replacement for the 645Z then IBIS would have to be included and maybe the above mentioned patent. A new more powerful battery/s would be needed as well as a new charger to go with it.

New half mirror OVF&EVF Hybrid Viewfinder patent - PentaxForums.com

And this from OokU in another post

"Next 645 camera in developing."

from Lemono

"Before the release of K3III, I mentioned the relevant information of the new 645.
The project started very early, and the develop progress was similar to that of K3III. The project was shelved for some internal reasons.
After the release of K3III, it was started again and the release time was determined.
Based on the current information, I personally think that the release sequence of Pentax should be similar to that of the previous generation in the next few years (K3-645Z-K1-K70).
If you want to ask for information about the new 645, it is targeted at GFX100 (not GFX100s). I mean performance and price.

Incidentally, the news so far is that the new machine will not be named 645Z MarkII, very interesting.
Of course, just a tentative name before the official release, Maybe change."

This project was later said to be cancelled but just maybe?

Given that apparently the replacement for the 645Z has been designed and is ready for launch I 'guess' the charger is for that camera. Maybe it has a larger battery to power a pellicle mirror hybrid design?

I think your Tesla analogy is completely wrong.
Tesla is the new technology supplanting the old. Just like mirrorless and DSLR.
Tesla is like Sony.
Pentax is like Morgan.

So you are saying Tesla don't mass manufacture? Tesla had an innovative new product.
To me this looks like a face saving strategy.
I can't see it working in any meaningful way other than to clear inventory before closing shop entirely.

If they say they are no longer going to be mass manufacturing cameras and relying on cottage style manufacturing then something HAS happened.
There will be no scope for expensive new product development surely?

That Takumar is a great little lens. Comparable to the new DA*16-50 on aps-c. A hidden gem IMO.

Why not try multiple exposures and HDR merge in Lightroom. You can also apply graduated filter effects there too.

I think you should wait and see what the upcoming wide aperature D FA* focal length is.
If it is 24mm then you will have a good option.

Thanks @luftfluss.

What I find interesting is their commitment to MF. I think from this you can surmise the replacement for the 645z was in development mid 2019 and could well be released at CP+ 2022.

Higher IQ but expensive🤔

All it is going to take is Canon and Nikon to continue to supply DSLR cameras and the Richoh strategy to wait for the 'great migration back' will fall over.
It is a lousy strategy to hope your competitors go away so you can survive.
