This may seem silly, but shouldn't  be shown as the 'subscribed' icon, instead of the letter?
Maybe you just haven't done a hard refresh of the page. I made a new icon last night :)

If there's a poll, the date is updated whenever someone votes (this was implemented about a month ago).
Also, moderators are able to bump a thread, although I doubt that's the case here.
