Had a quick trip to Pescara, Italy. But forgot to turn on RAW format since the last time I used the camera.. Grrr.. That'll teach me to always check camera settings when it hasn't been used for a while. R0K17930 by Ro Sonne, on Flickr

Testing some action with the sigma 70-200. Kid running towards me. About half of the frames were in focus. This one almost in focus. R0K13595 by Ro Sonne, on Flickr

Haha really? *checking how heavy the 150-450 is* 2 kg and 25 cm long... Damn.. :)
Would be awesome to try that one too, but the price is a bit too steep at 2800 USD here in DK.
To be honest I decided to try the sigma based on some of your comments around here Noel. ;)
And you're right, the slight softness of f2.8 works fine in some portrait situations. In the example below I guess I might have missed focus slightly. It does have a very shallow DOF on the K-1.

Thanks for your input Noel. I am really starting to like the lens. It is just soooo heavy compared to the limiteds I've been used to shooting with.
In good light the autofocus really is quite fast. And stopped down a little it is also rather sharp across the frame.
But the weight.... Oh well, its still 400 grams lighter than the pentax version, and quite a few bucks cheaper. R0K13295 by Ro Sonne, on Flickr R0K13298 by Ro Sonne, on Flickr

Just got a hold of the latest version of the Sigma 70-200, and I've got a weeks time to figure out whether it's a keeper or not.... My thoughts so far:
Not as sharp as, say, the FA77.
Doesn't focus too fast in low light. Hunts a bit. But the autofocus is nice and silent.
I like the bokeh.
I really want to test it with some action photography before making my final decision.
Here are my first random shots if you want to help me decide. Most of these were shot wide open. Check the bigger resolution versions on flickr for a better idea of the rendering. Wauw Frederic, loving especially number 2 and 3. Did you use the K-1 extract color jpeg function to make number 2?
It seems the sigma 18-35 is working well on the K-1 eh?! Did you crop a lot of the frame?

Ro

Hello everyone.
I tested the K-1 for a period earlier in 2016 but ended up returning it because I worried about the bad press surrounding it's autofocus capabilities. But I realized I was missing the fantastic image quality, low-light capabilities and just general pleasure of using the K-1, so when a good offer came up on Black Friday here in Denmark I decided to jump back onto the K-1 Wagon... Loving it! :D
Now on a recent trip to Brazil to visit my wife's family I tried to catch a few action shots of my kids jumping around in the waves at the beach.
It was in the evening just before sunset so the light was great if a bit sparse. I only had one WR lens with me - the 18-135, so was a bit skeptical about the results. And of course I had to use crop mode.
Even though the lens is not very sharp and of course not even meant for fullframe, I think the combination with K-1 shows great autofocus speed. Now if only I could afford the new FF zooms which apparently should have similar if not better autofocus speed.... That would be awesome :D
I think I got some interesting photos from a half an hour of jumping around. And most importantly the camera wasnt harmed in the process... ;) R0K11347 by Ro Sonne, on Flickr R0K11375 by Ro Sonne, on Flickr R0K11429 by Ro Sonne, on Flickr R0K11393 by Ro Sonne, on Flickr R0K11458 by Ro Sonne, on Flickr R0K11472 by Ro Sonne, on Flickr ---------- Post added 01-20-17 at 07:28 AM ---------- Ps. I didn't do a lot of processing on them, just basic auto tone in lightroom. Didn't even fix the horizon on that jumping photo.... :D
