I also said camera held focus on an eagle that was flying away from me, shot through the branches. Just not sure if 3-4 frames is a considerable sample size

I have another sequence with the bald eagle flying away from me, shot through the branches. It was shorter (3-4 frames until I gave up), so I didn't post it. But every frame is in focus. The sequence I posted was shot at 2.8
Anyway, what I'm saying is that it works for me.

Interestingly, my AFC worked really well with panning/tracking of birds today. That's the first time I've tried it (not a wildlife shooter), and was surprised that I when I saw them took off I just pointed the camera, locked focus and tracked while shooting at Hfps. All shots in the sequence were in focus, but the birds were too far away from me, so I had to crop quite heavily to show it. Some sharpening applied to counteract cropping, but you can see that focus didn't hunt and didn't focus on the forest in the background for example. Quite a discussion lol. I can vouch for 28-105 being very fast, it feels almost as fast as my olympus primes that in good light focused incredibly fast (even in bad light it was very good). Taking in consideration how much larger the lens is than my oly primes, it's a pretty impressive result from a sub 500$ zoom. Haven't tried the pro zooms so can't say if they are as good speed wise. I'm sure the new DFA* lenses will focus very fast too.

weird, i thought a6000 was notorious for it's bad CAF. Hence a much improved CAF in 6300 and 6500..
K-1 seems to be fast enough and precise enough for my amateur needs) https://flic.kr/s/aHskMFhnmR |

I could definitely say that my copy of DFA 28-105 is way faster to focus than any other lenses I own. Looking forward to trying other DFA lenses, maybe if I'll ever upgrade my tamron 70-200 to the DFA one.

I've complained in the past about the af not being super precise, but after shooting the camera for a while, including sports with my Tamron 70-200, I think it definitely can get me shots I need, it just might take few extra shots to get a keeper, and most of the time it just nails the focus anyway. I wouldn't recommend it for a pro sports shooter, but for my casual uses it's more than enough.
