Actually, $1200 is fairly reasonable, at least if lens ends up being great optically. Time to save some cash :)

Screw drive lenses do no focus accurately, not all the time, but enough to be noticeable.
I like the lens, but I had bad luck with de centered copies, I'm on my third one and it's in repairs with precision camera right now.

Your gear must be working better than mine then, cause my da 50 and Tamron 70-200 definitely are not consistent. And dfa 15-30 in anything but bright daylight either, and it's a modern lens.
Hopefully 50 1.4 will be better in this regard being the * modern prime ---------- Post added 05-23-18 at 06:29 AM ----------
All I know is my own experience with my gear, and I'm sharing it. If people are not having those issues with their gear, then I must be in "luck" once again with my gear being faulty (I've had terrible experience with 15-30 that's thoroughly documented in other threads). ---------- Post added 05-23-18 at 06:31 AM ----------
28-105 and 15-30 aren't perfect either. Maybe I'm expecting too much, but in my opinion an expensive combo such as K-1 and 15-30 shouldn't miss focus in bright day light at all, even it doesn't happen 100% of the time

Screw drive motor lenses can be unreliable in my experience.

I don't have any complaints regarding the af speed (apart from dfa 15-30 indoors, unfortunately it takes its sweet time). But accuracy is sometimes an issue, especially with screw drive lenses (at least with models I have).
Tamron 70-200 sometimes just cannot achieve good focus, same with the da 50 1.8, while dfa 28-105 does much better in any light, but can also struggle a bit in dimly lit environments (which is understandable I guess).
I think there's definitely an upside to upgrading lenses to newer models with faster af motors, even if you need to pay the premium to do so.
I see myself selling all my screw drive lenses (apart from maybe my macro since I do manual focusing anyway) as soon as I can. ---------- Post added 05-20-18 at 10:58 AM ---------- I would be so happy if 70-200 f4 would come out in some reasonable period of time, I'd sell my Tamron in a heartbeat.
