So hopefully at least two announcements at CP+. Only a few weeks off at this point. :)

I'm having to wait longer than I had intended, but it's still on my "buy" list. I've seen enough photos to know I do want one! One of these sales days it will happen. ;)

I'm thinking it might be like the DA* 55 and the new DFA 50. Great lenses for different reasons. Just wish I could afford to buy them all. ;)

I have similar moments with my K-3 II versus K-1 II with the 77 and the 43. Neither focus particularly close, and if I'm chasing flowers, I prefer them on the crop sensor.

It's really quite appealing, and the rendering is lovely. Don't think the new 85 can replace it, but perhaps supplement it. :)

Most welcome. Nice when a snap shot kicking around in the archives can be helpful. :)

I'd say pretty good. This is an early one with the aspherical element. Don't look at the mast far left - it has bend to it, and don't look at the topping lift that appears over/in front of that mast, as that has some lines coming straight down off it (one really pulling hard off what looks like a black blob - they are putting load on that particular one), but check out all the other stays and shrouds, and I'd say doing pretty well with no corrections - just resized ooc jpeg to post.

Every now and then I lust after one of the FA* 85's, but then I think, no, just hold tight. Must be getting closer. ;)

My issue with plastics has been poor long term experiences with them becoming brittle and breaking in normal use. I've had this happen across marine, automotive and household applications. I'm sure there are better more durable ones, but they seem to be in the minority in my common encounters. That said, I've never had a problem with plastic lenses, but I've never used a 40 year old plastic lens. I doubt this will be an issue with the new D FA* 85 though, given the D FA* 50 is metal.
